Default Your beliefs

Seems like there are a few new posters in this forum with interesting beliefs.

So please outline a few of your beliefs, (I get excited when I think someone believes something similar to me.)

Edit. Personally I don't know if god exists, but I do believe that life is eternal. Whatever can be imagined is possible. Heaven is an experience of love to the fullest and hell is an experience of fear to the fullest.

Maybe life is eternal...as long as we pass our DNA down from generation to generation?

That sounds like a plausible definition of 'eternal' to me.

That is unless you include the probability of extinction of the species being a natural and unavoidable process.

Hmm...

So...Beany - are you implying that the opposite of love is fear, not hate?

Again...hmm...

I'm new here, but my beliefs aren't interesting at all. In fact they are pretty boring:

Our bodies are comprised of atoms, our thoughts of electic potentials. There are no souls. When one dies consciousness ends, abruptly and without exception. Life, and everything else for that matter, has no meaning other than what one gives it. Similarly, gods do not exist - they are artificial concepts.

I do believe in some power or force that created all of us, I doubt if it was a white dude in sandals, robe, and has long hair, though.

Being Indian I follow my tribe's beliefs, which are a little similar to christian beleifs in the sense that both believe in a creator. (Se'he'he, I'itoi, Jesus, Jehovah, Allah, etc.) There is also a being present on the opposite end.(Satan, Lucifer, Coyote)

Now let me explain Coyote's position in my tribe's belief system. While christianity teaches people to fear the devil, Coyote's position is to teach the people the difference between right and wrong by , as christians put it, "bewitching" them. Coyote doesn't do this because he gets pleasure from it, he's a trickster who does it so that we'll know better next time, and he won't have to come fuck with us.

Now, Se'he'he (pronounced soo-oo-oo) was the creator. He made man and they lived happily for awhile. But like in the bible, Se'he'he saw the people didn't have morals and the women lived loose lives, so he punished them with the great flood. the people lost in this flood were the "Huhugam", ancestors to today's Akimel O'odham or Pima (from AZ)

There are plenty stories that sort of sound like bible stories, and I only know a few.

Although I recieved these stories orally from a "makai" or medicine man, there is a good book called "O'odham Creation and Legends" by Ruth ? It talks about the similarities between O'odham creation and the christian version of creation, it also has similarities between the Mayan(?) tale "Popol Vuh".

Also we have our own version of heaven. We aren't playing harps while sitting on clouds, though. When we leave this world, we start our journey to the east until we reach this mountain that's actually on the east side of our rez. On the other side of this mountain, is where everybody who has gone on before us is and they are waiting for us to join them. That's our version of heaven, although we don't distinguish it as the "good" place to be as opposed to the christian theme of heaven and hell. It's the place we want to be because all of our relations are there. I've never asked where we end up if we never make it to the mountain, I guess we walk forever and don't get to join our family. that's our hell, I'm assuming. I could be wrong.

Where I'm from, we're like 20 minutes away from Phoenix, alot of the young ones are emulating the urban youths (gangs, shooting, bulshit) I live on the west side of the rez, which is in a valley between 2 mountains (South Mountain and Estrella Mountain) It's been told there is a lot of power between these two mountains, and the youth of today can't harness it in a positive way, so that is why there is all this bullshit around. South Mountain is said to be where Se'he'he's house is.

there are plenty more tales, but this is the basis of our beliefs.

not to offend your beliefs, but you should really examine some of the dogma in your religion... namely, the main and only belief. 85% of the world is lactose intolerant.

besides, i think most cheese is crap.

I dislike that simplification. I would say I hate alot of things I don't fear. The contention would come because maybe my hate would better be described as despising something, but it's just semantics.

Definately.

Don't wanna sound patronising but it's definately wroth understanding this kinda stuff. Where all negative emotions, reactions etc are born from a fear of something and all positive ones from love.

^^^That doesn't sound patronizing to me Beany, I rather like that approach. I think it can lead to a deeper understanding of oneself and others.

And another thing I just thought of. Using the basis that all negativity comes from fear, it's easier to see how anything can be forgiven.

'Sarter' was the first alias I ever used, back when I was a wee one. It sounds like an English version of the French name Sartre, but I wasn't aware then of Jean-Paul Sartre and his Sartrean athiesm. I have not done much research on him and I do not use his arguments. One difference between us is that I was an athiest by default and decided to stay that way, while Sartre switched to athiesm (and possibly switched again on his death bed).

Life exists because existence is the imperative. Non-existence is not possible, to say nothing exists is non-sensical, zero is a theoretical concept, zero exists only as a background, a screen, upon which the one is reflected in an infinite manner.

Existence, being as it is, demonstrates the reality that there can only be existence. How can being come from non-being? How could existence derive from non-existence? How may non-being result from being? How would existence become non-existence? How is it living beings believe in dead non-being?

Is god real?

well, I don't know.

Peoples experiences of god are for certain real, so thats all that matters really.

I'm here, all evidence points to the psych being dependant on the body, and thus, destructable, but I just have an irrational incling that perhaps after death, lies sorta annihalation, but sorta a logical breakdown. Its inconcivable really, so it isn't worth thinking about too deeply, unless your into the whole zen buddhism type of thing.

No. Really. All hate is a byproduct of fear, unless it's a completely irrational hate caused by some kind of degenerate mental illness.

I learned that in psyche class.

Yeah, fear will be involved somehow. Maybe you are unconsciously assosiating that which you hate with something you've feared in the past.

Take this example. When you were real young a guy bullied you and caused you to fear him. You grow up and forget about the bully, but then you meet another guy who looks similar. Subconsciously you associate him with the bully and instantly take a disliking to him.
