god is like a donut. by which i mean, he has no center.

although we can mentally designate a space outside and a space inside the donut (god and man; heaven and earth; the supernatural and the natural), in fact, there is nothing separating the two spaces in the center.

this all leads to the inescapable conclusion that it is better to eat the friggin donut, than to contemplate it... as with the notion of a higher mind.

I know this is cliche, but I believe it's true.

God, if he exists, exists in a completely unfathomable spacial-temporal plane.

So stop trying.

someone whose hebrew is better than mine can perhaps correct this but if i recall corectly god gives his name (in conversation with moses) as 'eyeh asher eyeh' which would translate as something like ' am i the one whom i shall become'

I've heard many different interpretations. One I heard was it translated into something along the lines of "I was, I am, I will be" equating to eternity. The one I recieved from the most reliable source, however, was that of "undefinition".

Which is a brilliant liberation from logocentric thinking.

There is no physical presence in Heaven (as Heaven is spiritual and external to the physical laws governing space.) Thus the laws of physics do not apply to Heaven/God. Heaven is perhaps a Utopia because of its segregation from all laws, it is literally a place of unconditional liberty.
In short, God is wholly distinct to the laws of time and the laws of physics. It's like applying our sense of common morality to a fucking squid.

If gods didn't exist, then it would be necessary to invent them.

So in other words, gods exist, even if they don't.

"If on the other hand he went to pay his respects to The Door and it wasn't there... what then? The answer, of course, was very simple. He had a whole board of circuits for dealing with exactly this problem, in fact this was the very heart of his function. He would continue to believe in it whatever the facts turned out to be, what else was the meaning of belief? The Door would still be there, even if the Door was not."

Well, any reason that a god exists in the first place? Which god are we talking about, anyway? Kinda hard to discuss the origins of an undefined term.

William Paley said you can't have design without a designer. He used this to say that some greater life force had to design life. But, In my mind it can work both ways, using his own agruement. (sp?) How can god be if he has always been, with no designer.

Are you familiar with the artist M.C. Escher?

Well, one of his most famous pieces was a sketch of two hands drawing each other.

I think somewhere in there is the main idea on the whole where did god come from thing.

Cheers,

Yes, but till someone demonstrates it with a resonable amount of evidence, there is no good reason to take that claim seriously, just as if I told you I happen to exist and not exist at the same time.

I don't. That's the point. But if the Christian god can really violate logic, maybe the paradox wouldn't be a paradox. But like I said, till someone demonstrates as such, I don't such claims or speculation seriously.

imagine a time when people were wild.. raped stole killed , basically were "out of control" in a sense.. the kings or emperors or rulers of the time had to have a way to "scare" people into a set of rules they had to follow ..IE "the ten commandmants" and what better way to do this than to say.. this "god" who sees everthing you do will make you "burn forever" if you do these things.. and so was born religion.. aka christianity, an attempt to make a "law" that could see everything you do and after a thousand years or so.. it turns into a widespread belief with followers thru time that wrote stories that were compiled and made into a book called the "bible", and finally transformed into "if you don't do this or this.. and you do this and this you'll go to hell ... its in the bible .. so its gotta be true"

a few things i've wondered why people don't realize.

1. The bible makes no reference to anything of this day.. technology.. cars.. anything past what the people of that time knew.. if god and these "phrophets" knew all that they were supposed to.. and god knowing the future.. seems it would mention something in there about anything from this time.. but it does not.

2. It never mentions anywhere in the bible about dinosaurs or anything from that time period even tho it spans from the beginning of time til some time A.D.. the cavemen and prehistoric creatures were there somewhere .. we've found their bones.. but no mention of anything like that in the bible.

3.the bible changed to reflect the beliefs and views of the time that part of the bible was written.. in the old testament.. it was ok to have multiple wives.. but later it wasn't.. and you should treat your slaves right.. slaves? so it was ok to have slaves then but not now in christianity.. kinda all contradicts itself

4. The only reasoning any christian can give to any question of why anything bad happened is.. either.. god works in mysterious ways, or the devil did it.. and anything good was god..

5. They claim god is so wonderfull and great and loves everyone so much.. but he is willing to make someone burn forever based on the fact that adam and eve ate an apple? Doesn't sound like the god they describe.

6. There is NEVER any proof of any existence of god.. besides the usual "look around how else would all this wonderfull stuff exist".. i'm talking about proof proof.. direct facts. Seems like god would want people to believe in him .. so he would give proof and help people believe.. not just say you have to believe in me based on a 2000 year old book and stories or go to hell.

So my answer to who created god is.. US

welcome to TOTSE.

your point #1. if prophecy were not obscure, people would say "selffulfilled". if cars and such were directly mentioned, you would have definite proof, but then you would be directly charged with being perfect (therefore, sent to hell with now possible parole, just like satan will be)

#2 it does mention dinosaurs, read the archives, Digital_Savior went to great detail explaining.

#3. it didnt change, read it and watch for continuity

#4 what are your reasons, and actually, you are incomplete in your alaogy, but that's ok

#5 same as #3

#6 if you have definite proof, but then you would be directly charged with being perfect (therefore, sent to hell with now possible parole, just like satan will be)

sorry for the very short replies, but these have all been discussed many times, and each new person in TOTSE seems to bring up all the old stuff

Again, Welcome to TOTSE

Could it be that this man who was 'created in God's image' is actually expressive of man's awareness of the vastness of his own mind, which is so uncomprehendable that man had to find a means of attributing it to something outside himself?

Know yourself, know God?

The catch-22 used by religions, perfected over millennia, is "You cannot contemplate god because god is beyond you and all mortal reasoning." Although it technically answers the question, it often leaves much to be desired.

Just the fact that in the first parts of the bible they tell how to "treat your slaves right" shows that the wealthy ruler types of the time had something to do with these "rules" because.. hell they don't wanna give up their slaves but they might be morally nice so they say treat them right

why would "god" want anyone to have a slave in the first place .. not just treat them right.

Everything in christianity is based off the bible.. a text that could have been changed multiple times, the people writing the bible must have believed in what they were writing so they are naturally gonna embelish it .. make it sound greater .. specially when passed through so many hands over 2000 years.

This man says he's jesus, son of god.. brings bread to people.. by the time they embelish it and the story has been passed around that heyyy this man gave all these people bread to eat.. the person writing is hearing a whole different story.. jesus made the bread appear and such.. then for people to believe him they will write i saw it for my own eyes.. write as a witness to these accounts.

Speaking of religion not in the "organized" sense, it is the search for God/Gods. The control is just a byproduct of widespread application of religion by powerhungry rulers.
