Man I know what you mean. I know a lot of closed minded christians but I know a hell of a lot more close minded atheists. At least with some christians they will talk about a God with you and ideas but most atheists just assume if you believe in a god your an idiot.

Not believing in a god or creator does not mean that a person lacks moral character. Most atheists have strong moral convictions. They are just not based on subservience to a mythical being or fear of eternal damnation.

christians are closed-minded. Atheists will talk to anyone about god if requested. This thread sucks, you have no reason behind your worthless statement..

One can be both an atheist and believe that there is more to the universe than meets the eye. On the spectrum of religious belief, there is a broad range of possibilities, not simply "theist" and "atheist." (Or, in your dichotomy, "Christian" and "atheist.")

I might note that I've never felt the urge to rob a bank.

Atheists are typically more closed minded than Christians, at least the ones that both to think and comment on such topics. However, MOST atheists don't really give a damn what anyone believes, because they don't feel that it is worth there time.

Well, if by "close-minded" you mean, "not willing to believe in bullshit that has absolutely no evidence to back it up", then you're absolutely correct. They want to keep it that way.

See dude that right there is the close mindedness I am talking about. Thats a very narrow kind of statement. To many athestists discussing religion constists of religion is for the weak your an idiot. And as well many christians are close minded but it is not a black and white issue. I would put money on the fact that there are just as many close minded athesits as there are close minded christians per capita.

STOP GENERALIZING!!!!! No group of people is closed-minded and no group of people is open-minded. There are open and closed minded individuals belonging to every group. I agree that this thread is stupid. I also think it expresses YOUR close-mindedness to groups of people. Stop being an asshat and open your eyes.

Consider that it is very much possible for an atheist to be convinced into believing in a deity(it's not like they consciously choose not to believe) while it would be nigh on impossible to convince a Christian otherwise because they have this thing called faith that resolves their doubts.

I'm not athiest myself, more of an agnostic. Still, I think it's funny when people critisize atheist's by saying something like, "if I was atheist I would do whatever I want ie. rob a bank". Now what that's pretty much saying is the only reason to live life with any morals is because of the fear of being punished by god. Which is really pathetic.

if accepting logic is close minded, then im glad to stay that way.

penalties is what stops 'anarchy'. we know about laws and spending a good 25 to life taking it up the ass isnt a good way to live out my tiny speck of life.

same thing with christians except they get an eternal amount of assraping.

It's really funny how it's only the Christian religion that gets bashed on this site. I hardly ever see Muslims, or Hindus getting reamed on this forum. Are they not also close minded? Oh well, just something that I noticed, thought that I would point it out.

Lemme modify your train of thought a little:

"Since evolution offers no real purpose for life, it results in an absence of meaning, and therefore an absence of moral absolutes. This is clearly in conflict with the Bible. Evolution results in a philosophy of nihilism (the denial of any basis for truth), which ultimately ends in despair. The Bible claims to have the Truth, which gives ultimate hope. (John 14:6, Colossians 1:27)"

Here's the rest, just for kicks:

Kinda like how christians don't want to get damned to hell? It's still deterence from a crime, and it's not like it stops people from shooting up abortion clinics.

Digital Savior, you assume that life has no meaning except that which the bible promises. I'm sorry but your assumption is incorrect. The meaning of my life is what I decide it is. Not what anyone else thinks it should be.I would dare to propose that my moral fibre is as strong as practically any Christian's, but not for the same reasons. I believe in integrity and character.I have no desire to take that which is not mine, or inflict harm on another. Not because I fear the wrath of God, but because it is the intelligent position.Right is right, wrong is wrong. I don't need religion in order to know the difference. I fail to envision my life leading to despair. I am quite content with the life I lead , and I am quite comfortable knowing that there is nothing but the grave after I'm gone.I feel no need for "ultimate hope".

"I want whatever HE'S having !!"

Sorry, but foundational moral principles come from God, and God alone.

Of course I believe that life has no meaning outside of God. Why would I believe differently ?

Since God created the universe, it is fallacy to assume that He did not provide morals for humanity, in order to sustain it.

If everyone lived without morals, we'd be extinct, I think.

Of course, you don't believe that there is a God, so this will never be truth to you.

BTW, I don't think I insinuated that you cannot understand or practice morality without God in your life. Morality is a learned behavior in our modern world, just like everything else.

So, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

EDIT: Just getting rid of what you said, since I was able to post directly underneath you. Not into redundancy.

Kind of, except human law doesn't make you feel "spiritually" compelled to do one thing over another.

There is this little thing called the Holy Spirit that further enables us (past logical deduction) Christians to resist sin.

It doesn't ALWAYS prevail (we still possess free will), but more often than when it wasn't dwelling within us !
