Well, I know Christians consider it a sin because God gave you your life and it is His right alone to take it away.

I've always wondered: would you still go to Hell if you slit your wrists and repented before you die?

The inner workings of your mind

Please post this in "I Found it on the Web" unless you can add your own original content.

Without even looking I can guess this will be a Christian view. Lemme explain my own reasoning that does not involve the ethics of taking away "god's gift".

Suicide is pretty much killing yourself, but to get to the point that you do so makes it so there is no heaven, hell, afterlife, or reincarnation. You get what you pay for, so if you felt shitty for a long time it would affect you emotionally and carry on into the next life (if you have one). This is made stronger when you get to the point you kill yourself. For whatever reasons that caused you to think like this, your mind will become dead too and unretrieveable without serious reprogramming. The spirit, is what basicly conveys your emotions to the environment, and if those emotions were negative enough to cause you to cause harm onto your own body, they the spirit pretty much poofs out of existance at the moment you make the choice and stick with it.

Don't mean to brag, but I've made it so I can't purposefully kill myself... A hardwired feature in my brain. And a rule I stick by is to not let things in the material world get the better of me.

I mean, Come fucking on! How the frickin hell do you expect pitty for people who never took the time to learn to survive? I look around our cities and see so many places that survival can be achieved within, even animals attempt it with their downfall being in they don't know the dangers of our technology. It is the attachment to pointless junk like money and jewelry that causes the majority of suffering in the western hemisphere. Once a survival foothold is achieved, luxury and living conditions can be increased, but that causes harm onto other things, which I won't be speaking about at this moment. If you can't handle the heat, stay out of the oven(or kitchen). You are the one who makes the majority of screwups that require suicide. Anything else requires survival. You are worth more alive than dead in many ways, including being a willing guinie pig for scientific experiments.

*Is slightly tickish from recalling all the whiny angsty teens he sees daily*

Now, if anybody would like to challenge me, I would be more than happy to verbally retailiate based on how respectfully you made the challenge.

The third paragraph is my views, everything else I deem psychological human fact.

If you are "saved" (Meaning you have accepted Christ as your Savior), then if you were to slit your wrists, you would still go to Heaven.

But there are consequences for everything we do...we are not exempt from the retribution of our sin.

Sin does not send you to hell, once you are saved.

Sin remains what it has always been: a thorn in the ribs.

The retribution I speak of is in Heaven. "Great is your reward..."

"Reap what you sew..."

I can provide some scriptures if you'd like.

Mojo (that's my cat's name), have you ever been a victim of manic depression ?

It is easy to say "don't let life get the best of you" when you haven't been down that road.

It's debilitating...you can't get out of bed. Food is not appealing. The world outside your window is grey.

When people speak to you, you see their mouths move, but you can't hear what they are saying, because you really just don't care.

At times, you can't breath.

It is NOT an easy thing to pull out of, either.

I had insomnia for 7 years, which was directly related to manic depression.

It was a hellish 7 years.

I thought about suicide often, but not because I felt I was too weak to make it in this life. I just didn't want to anymore.

I was too tired to try and fight it. It didn't really seem worth it.

Of course, God was the light "unto my path", but that is a different topic.

What I am getting at is that it is not always so "easy" to say, "Fuck you, world ! I'm gonna take you by storm !"

Depression is an affliction, not just a state of mind, in my opinion.

I don't think you considered this aspect.

I am very much like you now, in that I will never feel that way again. I stand up tall, I find joy in everything in my life, and look forward to the "grand finale" when I pass on to the afterlife.

I hope that sheds some light on the subject for you.

If you kill yourself, you accomplish nothing. You will only get sucked right back in, or "reincarnated" if you prefer. The only way to salvation is to awaken from the hypnotic state you are in, and deny the illusion that is our universe. Christ did it, and you can too!

You are totally correct there DS.

Depression is NOT something you can just wish away.

It isn't like anyone chooses to be depressed, and it has just as much to do with the problems and abnormal stresses of modern society as it does with so called "coping skills".

Suicide used to be something people did when they were about to be captured, and therefore imprisoned and tortured, not someting they did because they couldn't cope with day to day life.

Its odd... where I live, Canberra, Australia, is both the national capitol, and the suicide capitol (per 1000 people).

Every now and then, you hear about bodies being found in the lake and the police looking for the murderers, but the News never seems to mention the countless OTHER bodies that are recovered.

Digital_Savior, I understand and agree. My rant was targeted at those that claim to be depressed yet still run around bitching and complaining about their life. As for the true depression, I feel that it applies to killing your own mind in the process if one gets to the point as you described. My solution would be figure out a course of action that would take the pain away without destroying the body or mind, but that requires motivation which most people, by that state, don't have much of.
