Default 7 Day theory

What always gets me with the 7 day theory is the fact that an omnipotent God required 7 days to do something!!

Wouldn't it be such that anything could be accomplished in an infinitely small amount of time??

Even if "7 Days" is not that in the conventional sense, surely it refers to "7 somethings" which an all powerful being would not require to accomplish anything??

I think 7 is just a pretty number in a pretty story the explains a pretty thought if you can read between the pretty lines.

Ah once again the bible contradicts itself,

"And on the third day he made the sun"

Without the sun we cant tell how long the first day was, it could be 30 seconds, it could be 30 trillion years. So the 7 day thing is not accurate at all.

Oh no. There was night and day before the sun. He created light second (after the heavens and earth) and seperated night and day.

However, where that light came from, thats the screw up.

Doesn't say he had to create it in 7 days. Maybe he just felt like it.

Yah but God can do anything so he can make light without the sun

The days don't have to be days in our sense here on earth with the sun etc. They could be God days and could be billions of years long. I think that this interpretation of Genesis is called conservatism, I think.

It's only a story writen for the proletariats anyway.

If you equate the creationalist time span ( around 6 thousand years ) with the evolutionist time span ( 4.5-5 billion years)

7 days is a pretty impressive feat.

Science isn't the truth any way, it's a guess.

Well, they tend to guess correctly...a lot.

The science theory makes more sense in realistic terms.

Hmm..I have this book somewhere called The Fingerprint of God, and it has this one chapter that has about 10 or so points that defend the creation story in Genesis. I'm going to look for that and see if I can get around posting those points.

One thing I remember is the Hebrew word that has been translated to be "days" can also mean "era" and things like that.

It seems as if people are amazed that god managed this in 7 days?

God is all powerful supposedly and therefore this time frame seems incredibly long.

As more people try to say that a day could mean a million years or something like that, they are making the problem worse! The point I'm making is that why did god require an amount of time to accomplish this?

That was delt with.

Your looking at it in the wrong manner, when there is absolutely no reason for something to be the way it is, that is the biggest clue that there is a reason for it.

The fact that it's seven days is because the 7 is significant.

If I may, here are some more questions with answers that someone believes solves everything, or flaws the whole idea of 7 day creation:

http:../../www.geocities.com/llfptfu/stories.html

First topic is the creation bit, after that it goes to various other religious content of which they deem to be false or illrelivant to the bible.

Sorry if this offends anyone, and thank you for your time.

Seven is a sacred number to many ancient empires (i.e. seven laps in a chariot race, seven hills of Rome [excluding the Ianiculum of course].

"God" did what he wanted and the writer of Genesis chose 7 because it's a sacred number, and he chose the measure of days because it was a length of time that he could grasp. So seven days is just a reference to an infinite amount of time in which a diety could create, or it could represent the time before the age of Man, its all in what you believe.

Just so science and creationism can be in harmony.. why not make 1 creation day = 1,000,000,000 years?

That way, everybody's happy!

For many of the earlier christian writers (i.e. first 300 yrs), the creation account was never really considered to be a literal week. One of the more common early interpretations was that each day was a 1000yrs, that we were stilll living in the sixth day, and 7th day tied in with the millenial reign if Christ in John's Revelation.

It just goes to show that interpretation of the genesis creation account is:

a) not required to be literal

b) literal interpretation is a relatively new phenomenon

c) Jews and Christians who do not go for YEC, or 7 day creationism are not being unfaithful to the text or God.
