This question is the same is "is the reason Black people are impoverished because they are evil?". The answer is yes, although it's not a magic flying man dishing out the funk but Mother Nature. Layin' down the smack. oh yeah!

Many people who chose to not follow nature's law expect a magic god to come and save them from their violations of natural law, and that just doesn't happen.

Allthough The Dragon has done a great job in showing his stupidity tonight, I can begin to see where his remarks towards you were coming from. So you don't like black people. I think we got that! It gets fucking old to hear you again and again about why us aryans are better then the world, and why the "nigger scum" is bad at this and that.

You're a racist. I'm sorry you feel that way about black people, but it's your own deal. We DO NOT care. So please, restrain from dragging us all into it.

Please tell me you're not serious.... If you are, i'll tell you why that's bullshit: animals don't have feelings or a consciense (sp) so God punishing an animal would be no difference that punshing a rock.

But God doesn't exist anyway, so it doesn't matter....

No. I'm sorry but you can't argue this. Animals don't feel emotion. Period. They DO NOT have the part of the brain required for emotion. Period.

Anytime you see an animal come up to you and rub you leg and act happy as hell, it's not because it's happy. It can't be happy. It 'acts' happy so you'll do stuff to it that feels good physically. And animals brains work like this: if i do it and it feels good it must be good for me. That's a short way to tell the inner workings of an animals brain.

I mean.... i had a cat once that drank anit-freeze and died. The anti-freeze tasted sweet to the cat, so the cat's behavior told it to eat more, because as far as that cats concerned, if it feels good physically it must be good for you.

Fear, the most basic of emotions is present every where in nature. Their is also happiness (scientific this is refered to as beastly joy) when a cat purrs at being petted, or a dog wags it's tail as it's owner walks in the room.

Their is grief as an elephant sits by a dead family member for several days, hanging it's head and ocasionaly laying it's trunk on it in mourning.

Animals posses a hypothalamus, which is often crdited as playing a major role in expression of emotions and the four F behaviors. The amygdala also plays a role in emotions and the memory of them, and also is present in animals.

Animals are also self aware. They feel pain. They also in many instances communicate with each other, though not always verbally.

As far as fuckin Dr. Doolittle over here who KNOWS exactly how animals operate... what exactly is the physical part of the human brain that generates emotions? Since you claim to know for certain that animals to not have it you must know exactly which neurons and dendrites produce nothing besides the complex thoughts, memories, and chemical reactions that are emotions.

Your description of how animals only 'act' like they feel emotions is total bullshit my main man. You could say exactly the same thing about humans.

Your example about how you fucking were irresponsible enough to let your cat die is no different from a herion addict dying from their addiction.

You can't argue that animals don't have logic OR emotion.

Surely doing something that feels good physically is the most logical thing to do, as the animal doesn't know that it could hurt it. Assuming that your cat didn't know that it would die from the anti-freeze and it tasted good, it would be completely illogical not to drink it.

It's not about logic. Animal don't have logic. As i stated before animals rely on stimulus and irritibility to dictate their behaviours. And i can ague animals dont have emotion because they don't have the part of the brain needed for emotion.

hypothalamus eh? i thought the hypothalamus was used for homeostasis: http://thalamus.wustl.edu/course/hypoANS.html

it has nothing to do with higher thought or consciousness.

The hypothalamus regulates some of the "motivated" behaviors, like thermal regulation, sexuality, combativeness, hunger and thirst. The hypothalamus is also believed to play a role in emotion. Its lateral parts seem to be involved with pleasure and rage, while the median part is like to be involved with aversion, displeasure and a tendency to uncontrollable and loud laughing.

I admit the hypothalamus has more to do with the expression (symptomatic manifestations) of emotions than with the creation of them. When the physical symptoms of emotion appear, the threat they pose returns, via hypothalamus, to the limbic centers and, then to the pre-frontal nuclei, increasing anxiety. This negative feed-back mechanism can also generate a situation of panic in the brain.

I was only demonstrating to our ignorant friend that animals do have the same parts of the brain we have that generate and express emotion. I did not mean to imply the Hypothalamus only preforms an emotional function, because it does alot more than that.

So Dr. Doolittle, now animals are not only incapable of emotion but logic also... my you certainly are an active member of the scientific community aren't you?

quote:Originally posted by WristSlitter:

You do realise that any form of decision making is logic, don't you? My computer relies on inputs to produce outputs as well, through a process known as logic.

quote: And i can ague animals dont have emotion because they don't have the part of the brain needed for emotion.

No, you can't 'ague' anything, you have yet to tell me exactly what parts of the brain are physically not present in an animal that would give it emotions were they present. All you have said is "They don't have it." Have fucking what? If you don't even know what the hell it is you're talking about then you can't say you know that it's not in an animal's brain.

Tell me, how do you explain it when dogs rescue their unconsious owners out of burning buildings?

You can't be punished by something that does not exist.

You know, sex wasnt always considered a sin. Matter of fact, until modern "Christianity" (invented by Constantine, a pagan roman emperor),sex was a spiritual ritual in many religions. So I seriously doubt God would only start seeing it as a bad thing and start punishing us in recent (propotionally)days.

That is, again, assuming there is a God. So many religions have come and gone in the history of the world, it's hard to tell.

I do think God punishes idiots though. That's right, he strikes folks like poop and wristslitter down with lightning when they go outside and play with golf clubs and such during a bad storm.

Thanks retard, but I didn't ask how they do it.

I asked WristSlitter how he explains behavior like that from something that is incapable of both logic and emotion.

Hey there is no god, thus he isn't punshing people with aids. I'm getting sick and tired of people saying that god is great and god will save you from sins, hell according to you he will punish for our sins too. I am wiccan myself, and I truely belive in the God and the Goddess. And your little god...isn't there, he is just a figment of your petty imagination.

Dont quote me. And if god loves everyone why would he kill them with a disease? Especially considering christian teaches you will be punished when you die anyway (not that thats what actually happens or anything, but hey christians would know better than me they died a came back to life once already right?).

Mother Theresa wasn't a particularly nice person in a lot of ways.

If God is punishing sinners with AIDS, he's doing a pretty bad job of it. I'm sure there are plenty of good people with AIDS, and I'm living proof that there are plenty of sinners without it.

I dunno, i think she put it more like "sexual mispractice" or something.

I'd say she is far more entitled to her views about AIDS than anyone else here- I know I havent spent much of my life looking after people living and dieing from this virus.

Yes she has spent a lifetime helping other people. That in it's self doesn't give her the right to say that GOD is punishing sinners with aids because of sex. There have been many people who have contracted aids form blood transfusions, and alot of those were children. I don't give a shit who a person is in the real world, you let her tell the parents of child who has aids, it's becuase that child is being punished, and I will bet you a $100.00 that she would get her ass knocked the fuck out, period!

Is Mother Teresa wrong? Quite possibly.

Is Mother Teresa the final authority on the purpose of AIDS? No.

How many people do you think could afford a blood transfusion in calcutta?

How many women would have recevied AIDS from having to work as prostitutes in a slum, like calcutta?

How many children would have contracted AIDS as a result of their parents being infected with HIV?

How many people would have contracted AIDS/HIV from IV drug use in a slum, like calcutta?

How many dying AIDS victims have you cared for?

Your reaction isn't wrong, I'd probably do exactly the same thing. But I'm inclined tpo think that her opinions on the issue have a bit more weight than most of ours.

I also doubt that Mother Teresa would say that a child's AIDS is the result of their own sexual misconduct- particularly if it was from blood transfusion...

I'm sorry if I get a little irritated, when I hear people making comments about something as serious as this. To answer you question about her opinion having more weight than ours. My answer is no. I don't think her opinion carries anymore weight than anyone elses. The reason I say this is because there have been missionaries of one sort or another traveling all over the world. They help the sick and needy.

But their help doesn't come without strings attached. Point being, awhile back I was watching an episode of the 700 club I believe it was. They were talking about how these missionaries were traveling from village to village helping sick people, and preaching their doctrines. Well they were telling these people not to go to the local witchdoctors for healing of anykind. They also told them that if they did seek help from one of the witch doctors they would go straight to hell when they died. They so scared the shit out of these villagers that when they left. The villagers in several of the these towns drug the witch doctors out in the street, and beat them to death, and burnt the bodies. I'd say the church has one hell of an agenda when it comes to scaring people into certain ways of thinking.

mmm, its pretty bad when that sort of stuff happens.

Just remember though that many groups of people who have "witchdoctors" often live in immense fear of them- to be set free of the power they hold over you and your community would be pretty liberating. (Although some would argue that you then become subject to the fear of the new religion).

It's a shame when aid/ missionary groups make their support contingent on adopting their beliefs. There's plenty that don't. I'm pretty sure Mother Teresa and co.'s work didn't come with strings attached .

What's the 700 club?

Not all witch-doctors are feared in their towns. Some are highly regarded members of the community. But you let some of these missionaries go into those same towns, and give it a little time. I'll bet you they can brainwash enough people in that town, that they will actually start threatning that witch-doctors life, or even kill them. It has happened before, and it will happen again.

I don't doubt that it has happened but were both talking in vague generalisations: "not all", "i'll bet". For all we know it could be rampant brainwashing, or it could be isolated incidents.

The mission organistaions that I have some familiarity with- Global Inter-action (formerly ABMS), WEC and even christian based aid agencies like Compassion and World Vision have a very different understanding of and approach to missions and evangelism. That's not to say that it doesn't happen. It sucks when it does though.
