Default Whats the point in living?

I have no idea. The scientifc approach tells us we are here to reproduce. But WHY? Doesn't the creation of a life or in many cases muitple lives encroach apon other forms of life? It doesn't make sense to live to eventually destroy another life form. If there is a God (which I believe there is) Why were we put here? Is it to actually prepare us for an AfterLife? And if the afterlife eternal shouldn't this be in acuality a Pre-Life? Or are we here to be a form of entertianment for someone/things amusement? Are we here to form emotions or what? Does anyone have serious responcse?

I must ask why you say, regarding the scientific approach, " It doesn't make sense to live to eventually destroy another life form."

Why doesn't that make sense? Remember, nature doesn't care about good and evil; only what does the job.

edit: finally noticed the nonsense of the last clause.

Just out of interest, if the people in the upper ranks are forbidden to tell the secret, how come whoever made that site knows it?

Did someone leave from one of those upper ranks?

I just find it a little hard to believe.

In my opinion, I believe we are here, all organisms, to survive. It's a contest, which species will survive the best... We are here to carry on our species in the eternal race of nature, and to kill and destroy anything that stops us from coming on top, but preserving anything that will help us get there. My two-bit

All science can tell us is what happens and why it happens.

What should happen is up to you.

The point in living is something you must find out for yourself.

Why does nature keep us going? Why do we have natural selection and stuff, it must serve some kind of purpose...

Anyways, if we're gonna get religious and all, I believe the christian god created people just so... He could like, spend time with them. I don't get that, but... Yeah, he just wanted us to live with him or something. Then we screwed things up of course. What a shame... Eden sounded awesome... Naked people...

I have a post in The Mad Scientist forum about that. It's under "The meaning of life?"

If you're looking for a meaning to life, there can only be one if there's an afterlife too; An afterlife determined by our actions in this trial life...

I find life to have a meaning even though there is no afterlife. I honestly believe the meaning of life is to figure out the 'Divine Joke' as some would call it...essentially, we exist to find the constant that is part of everything, we are here to find the humor in existence.

After life is after the fact.

Any meaning you get out of life will be had while you're living it.

Some people seem to think they can hold out and see if there is an afterlife and if there is, say their life had meaning and say it did not if there is no afterlife. Make the validation of their existence dependent on an uncertain latter outcome.

They don't seem to understand that meaning is not something that can be applied to life after it has been spent. It's something that has to be realized and actualized during the course of life.

I personally don't see any need for a point - I'm here, so the world will just have to deal with it.

Dark_Magneto, you're essentially saying that some people choose to forebear from drinking a soda right now, on the off chance that some company with a better soda will realize that you're avoiding the other choices and give you an unending supply?

The meaning to life is to live. You live, and survive this leads to evolution, the goal of the universe. We don't need to eventualy destroy other animals.

Living is assured as sure as you're alive. Life is about experiencing the self, don't worry about the rest, this world owes YOU!!! a living. What you owe yourself is how you want to live, living for the sake of others is forsaking yourself. Yes life is about your pleasures, the simple pleasures, the more advanced you are the more pleasures you experience. The greatest pleasure is to unite, like water it holds life together but does not clutch. Sex, is an act of unification, pleasurable as well. Having a group of people cooperating towards a common goal, very powerful indeed.

You forgot about faith. You can apply meaning to faith, which is what these people do.

Thats why they never find a real meaning to life other then what they "think" it is.

Why do we demand a higher authority to tell us what to do with our lives? My dad told me how to live my life and I was never happy until I stopped listening to him. I don't need tee-vee, or our consumer culture telling me how to live, that's because I seek the self for guidance. What other authority do you need other than yourself. You're the only one who knows if you are happy or not, so how can you decide that someone knows how you will be pleased, better than your self? Even if the answer is "scientific" it still isn't correct; it is merely what a person thinks. No matter how much data there is to support your point of view, it is still nothing but your point of view, an excuse. I think this is something ingrained in our society. If I punch you in the face, the authority you seek to guide you won't give a damn. It's up to you to punch me back.
