Why do Christians always whine about tattoos and piercings?

I've heard Christians complain about these things and say things like: That's sacreligious, my god doesn't like that stuff, that's against my religion, God don't like that stuff,-and my absolute favorite-God didn't make us like that, if He wanted us to have that stuff we'd be burn with it!

I hear them say these stupid things as well as, mutilation is a sin. Well we weren't born with shoes or cloths, should we not wear them?

If someone needs an operation should they not mutilate the person who needs the operation?

If a doc is far away from medical help, should they not do the surgery on themselves that'll save them?

Why do you think? For the same reason that they dislike anything - it's in their holy book.

"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD" (Leviticus 19:28 KJV)

But Leviticus has been proven time and time again to be the collective writings of pedophiles, rapists, corrupt priests, murderers, and generally human scum whom, at the time, were trying to corrupt Judaism into a system they could exploit. It holds no credibility; even when I was Christian I considered that book to be complete bullshit; I don't know how the fuck that made it into the Bible.

Yeah, you're right Craft. It's like they're too dumb to think, so they just look in the book and it's like it is telling them what to think, and what to do.

Read Leviticus, write down all the crazy fucking rules in it; now compare it to the rest of the Bible and see if it even makes sense. Leviticus is utter bullshit and goes almost entirely against the rest of the Bible.

Just a few things about Leviticus:

1. It's an animal abuser's paradise; the first several chapters talk about sacrifice of animals just like modern serial killers talk about their victims.

2. If one unknowingly touches anything unclean, they are guilty of the unclean thing's sin. This is the type of thought process that murderers often use to justify their 'vengeance'.

...fuck it, I really don't have the time to go through Leviticus and point out all the bullshit right now. Just Google for it, I'm sure you can find much better researched criticisms of it than my own. If you have trouble finding anything, I'll post up some links later, but I gots to go for now.

At this point, you could call me an atheist if you want as I don't believe a god exists. For the last several months I've been in a state of mind that perfectly mirrors all the symptoms of the usual depression, but I'm unbelievably happy. I have the nihilist viewpoint that absolutely nothing matters, which is probably the sedative thought that makes me appear depressed; but I have the buddhist/taoist thought that duality cannot be avoided and it's best to just let life flow. Essentially, I'm just one peaceful motherfucker right now with no clear beliefs.

"Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard"

- Lev 19:27

"Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material" - Lev 19:19

Whenever anyone (especially a christian) raises something because its in Leviticus, please remind them of these two at least.

Problems with a lot of this stuff is common among intellectualy-lazy christians. I've explained (my understanding) of the relationship of the law to everything else before. If anyone wants it im happy to post it.

Hex- who were these human scum? If you are referencing the documentary hypothesis and the JEDP docs etc. As far as I've seen this is another one of those ideas that gains some currency and holds it despite being disproven over the last 30(?)yrs. There is a pretty good case for Mosaic authorship.

I'm actually basing it on psychological criticisms of Leviticus and its parallel to serial killer and serial rapist mindsets, and writings by serial killers/rapists.

When I first began reading the bible I would literally read Levithicus at least 5x per day.

I always found it intrguing how men and/or a god would find men having sex with men so reprehensible. And it was punishable by not only death, but buring in fire forever.

And then to ice the cake, God does not want the gays oppressed just deprived of sex acts. They can lust and masturbate, but they are never to have sex together.

This is true occurding to the bible because lusting for a womam is sin. It does not say lusting for men is a sin, only the act of two men having intercourse with eachother is the sin.

What fuckin type of god gives a damn how two consenting men get off? An insane one.

Something just occured to me...

How the hell is God pure, omni-benevolent?

When it is He, who says, "Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the Lord have spoken it in my zeal, when I have accomplished my fury in them"

Wrath is the very antonym of benevolence. This proves that God is not only a liar, but He is not a pure and benevolent being. What you you Christians think of this?

I don't mean to sound like a pussy...but: I really miss Ashes , am I the only 1?

Nah, I don't even give credence to the NT. It's practically worthless if the text it is based around is complete bullshit.

Hex- why don't you choose to bring that up any time the NT's validity is being discussed? Your perpetuating your dogma again....

Nearly every time that i've seen the NT's legitimacy discussed you come in and make a completely normative statement like that. It means nothing if you don't give you reasons for it!

Your "dogma" is your continued assertion that the bible is BS. Yet you seem to never contribute anything to the discussion other than to beg absurdity, rather than deal with it properly. In that respect, you aren't very dissimilar to a creationist who relies on his audiences' lack of knowledge, and tries to paint a picture of evolution being absurd. Your better than that.

My apologies I guess; I usually leave the NT alone because it just disinterests me as opposed to other texts.

No worries mate. I havent got a problem with people critising the christian faith- my only real drama is when people start saying things and basing there arguments on things that are untrue, or extreme fudgings of the facts. Which is kinda the whole reason I post on totse. And which im sure is the reason most atheistic evolutionists will smash creationists.
