That little son of a bitch only got elected as Christ because he's God's son. He couldn't even run on his own credentials, that pansy bitch. Vote Mithra for Christ in 2004, let's put a REAL supreme entity in office.

Serious though people, you think for a religion that takes itself as serious as Christianity, they'd have a more original and powerful 'savior' than a cheap Mithra rip-off, whose existence IS questionable when you look at the evidence, and whose bloodline is more mysterious than a ghetto-child. Why aren't modern Gods as cool as Thor or Odin? Fucking Christ, even Osiris was better than Jesus.

the whole point of the christ narrative... the ENTIRE POINT... is that he was divine AND human. meaning, there is no room for fantasy...

if the essence of the christ story is lost on you, then continue to pay homage to mithra, and thor, and whoever else... just don't be surprised if one day your misplaced allegiance is exposed for what it is...

Oh come on, get realistic here. The religion puts complete faith into an invisible, unproven, questionable, YET omnipotent being, and you're telling me Christ couldn't be a little more fantastic without losing the human qualities because it would do what? Disrupt coherency or believability? I really don't think either issue was much concern of the authors of the Bible.

i'm not talking about the religion. first of all, understand that i'm not even christian, i just have enormous respect for the purity of emotion and mental strength displayed by christ in the new testament, irrespective of whether the story is true or not. it's inspiring to me because it's 'realistic' and not fantastical.

most self-proclaimed christians are anything but... if you ask me, pretty much the whole lot of them are exactly what the bible calls them, sheep. unfortunately, they don't understand that the christ of the new testament does not glorify sheep, he expresses an uncommon pity for them, while urging us to be shepherds through his example.

if christ advocated only love and peace, then the story would be meaningless... the conclusion would be that all the fluffy aspects of spirituality are naive endeavors, the consequences of which are incredible suffering at the hands of cruel and brutish people... christ was not just about peace. the story is of a very aggressive spiritual reality, one that does not sacrifice principal for luxury. christ stood for rebellion against the subjugation of his culture, one that he believed in his heart to be superior in principle and potential to that of the invading roman empire.

whether or not he resurrected in carnal form is irrelevant. his spirit never died. unlike a martyr, who is struck down by an enemy for what he believes, christ was pushed away by his own people. he was betrayed because of their misunderstanding, and yet, he did not forego his belief in their fundamental dignity, thereby making it real when no one else could.

even if the story is not true, it has tremendous power.

OK, you say that Christianity (the religion) takes itself seriously AND they should've sent some one/thing more impressive than Jesus. But you're missing an irony in Jesus' appearance. Jesus is *supposed* to be the saviour of the jews their "Messiah". The Jews were hoping/expecting someone powerful, someone to show everybody who's boss. Jesus is the polar opposite, which is why most Jews to this day dont believe in him. I think this shows that God has a sense of humor, or at least a sense of irony. Therefore, Christianity does not take itself seriously.

Love,

theBishop

PS: I (a Christian) used a logic proof to show that Christianity isn't too serious for it's own good.

Wow, I was expecting people to just flame me for being an ass, but I actually got some good replies. I agree with the statement that it is a powerful story. It's inspirational strength indeed and carries a great deal of relevant weight in anyone's life, Christian or not, if they take the time to understand the character Christ, rather than dismiss the whole story due to the intertwined dogma. People who seriously dismiss an entire story due to one aspect, dogma, are missing the value of it (I jokingly dismissed it, I'm actually a big fan of the New Testament...awesome stories).

I have a recent example of people dismissing beliefs due to dogmatic reasons: I was discussing the book Siddhartha with a friend, he said he disliked the book because it wasn't inline with his beliefs. He missed the whole fucking point of the book because of his dogma...that is absolutely foolish...a book that powerful and inspirational dismissed for the same reason the New Testament often is. People should atleast learn from the stories whether they take them as fiction or fact.

Hm, a follower of Mithra, eh?

We may just have to wage war on each other for all eternity.
