I was quiet offended by that message on the main page of totse. Why is it that Christians think people are fucking stupid because they aren't Christians? I found that quiet a huge claim to make.

Some of my friends (who are infact Christian) have lower IQ's than I do, an extremely non-religious person. Isn't that quiet funny from a religion who loves and hates homosexuals at the same time, by claiming "Jesus loves everyone" but several thousand priests claim that homo's are evil or tools of the devil.

What do you think of this whole subject?

I've always heard it as the other way around, with athiests claiming that religious people are stupid and naive.

I think a larger proportion of Christians are intellectually lazy than atheists.

I don't think what you choose to believe determines whether or not you're intellectually lazy or not. For fuck sakes people, grow up. Just because you believe that Jesus is our lord does not mean you’re in any way intellectually challenged. Nor does being an atheist effect how smart you are.

These are peoples personal religious beliefs, chances are most of them at one point or another have questioned those beliefs and come to the conclusion that they’re what they feel to be true. Whether those beliefs make everything seem very simple or very complex doesn’t matter. I’m sure someone that has very simple beliefs still understands and knows what someone who has complex beliefs is all about, they just don’t feel it to be true.

So the whole lot of ya can just grow up!

yeah um, more christians than atheists, so yes they could be more intellectually lazy who are catholic, but not percentage wise. 14 year old atheists are just rebellious terds who think that they are mature for leaving a religion. They are just blatantly stupid.

I think the people who are close minded about what they believe in are the ones that are intellectually lazy...

If they take sides and dont open up to anothers religion.. those are the true lazy minded in "duh" viduals

I will now share one of my discussions that happened at school the other day between me and my friend. She being a strong believer and me being athiest. We were having a debate as to why we believe what we believe, it went like this. Not exact words but summarized:

Me: Started out with I believe in evolution and that there is no higher power.

Her: Starts going on about the bible and that I'm wrong.

Me: I say that there's nothing wrong with the bible, I just think most of the stories are symbolic and never happened.

Her: Gets pissed, starts telling me the bible is the most historically accurate document ever written.

Pretty much after this I just listened to her ramble on about how I have nothing intelligent to say, I'm close minded for thinking there is no god, and that she went a long way to find god so she can't possibly believe how I just come to the conclusion there isn't one.

Whenever I tried to say anything she started talking louder and faster so I couldn't get anything in. She almost came to the point where she was screaming and we were in the middle of class so I just let her ramble on.

Now, I'm not saying all christians are like this, but when I said nothing hostile and she starts getting way overly aggressive and right off the bat starts telling me I'm wrong and it sounds like almost every single talk I've had with a religious person, you get the idea. I would have thought someone with more intelligence would have had a well drawn out debate with me, instead of turning into an aggresive screaming child, telling me I'm wrong. When this happens nine times out of ten, I stop the debate as soon as I think the other person can't handle it.

I've had talks with athiests about the possibility that there could be a god and they were possibly some of the best debates I could have ever had. Of course in the end we both laughed at the thought of a god, but you see what I mean.

The point of this post: Most christians just immediately throw the bible at you, they don't even try to argue or debate. They'd rather just hear themselves talk about god than try to talk with you. Maybe this is only true with the people I know, but it has been pretty consistant.

I was just thinking that it's easy to just go ahead and believe in God in a predominantly Christian society. A Christian with a Christain family in a Christain community is less likely to have put thought into their religion than for example a Sheikh with a Christian family in a Christian community... because it's easy to just agree with the people around you. Don't be prejudiced against atheists, you can't just say people that don't believe in God are doing so because they think they're rebellious. That's like saying all Muslims are extremists. Some people are atheist because they actually genuinely find the teachings of all religion hard to swallow, which I think is quite understandable. Why people are atheist and not agnostic though excapes me.

It's really just another attempt to scorn atheists so they don't have to realize that they've never thought about their religion objectively, only with the assumption it was right in the first place. And in that reference frame they'll never convince an atheist.

As for people being atheist as opposed to simply agnostic, I don't discount the theoretical possibility that there is a God, or reincarnation. I just see no evidence, and considering what I know about physics, I think it's highly unlikely that there is a God, to say the least.

to say that theres no physical evidence of a god is just a lack of faith(the belief in things not seen). When someone tells you that they'll have your pot for you at 4 o' clock you believe that they will give it to you even though you havent actually seen the pot only time will tell. Its the exact same thing with God. the bible says that jesus will come back to earth, so if its true then jesus will come back and the Christians will win if not than the athiests have it. now please shutup about whether God is real or not.

It's a lack of physical evidence as well.

You've seen pot, you know the person, your making an educated guess based on what you know and previous deals with that person.

However, god is like the dealer everyone hears about but noone knows and he is purported to have a drug that is rumored to give the ultimate high which is said to last forever and he'll supposeably give it to you if you just follow this book of prohibitively restrictive rules and guidelines.

Big difference.

Or it could be something entirely different which you've failed to consider.

Whether god exists or not is completely irrelevant; all that matters is if you believe in it or not. If you don't believe in it, it won't affect you, if you do then it will.

There is nothing objective about the existence of supernatural entities, so it is subjective at best which means it varies depending on individual interpretation.

I'm not an atheist, but I don't think you'll find that all Christians think that atheists are intellectually lazy.

There's two sorts of answers here. One is to do with the way in which certain Christians choose to express the exclusivity of the religion they believe in.

The other is to do with you living in the wrong place. There are plenty of Christians worldwide that don't share this blinkered attitude toward the world and you should bear that in mind. Unfortunately it sounds like you're stuck in America. America doesn't hold the copyright on Christianity, no matter what some Christians there might think. Anyone who thinks that the Bible is nothing other than literal truth, well, I think that's surer evidence of being intellectually lazy, no matter how observant or upstanding such people might be in other ways.

I'd think you were foolish for believeing in things that we know for a fact are simply make believe, but honestly, I wouldn't really care. What you believe has no effect on me.

Since when is it a case of 'winning'? Why would some people win, and others lose when and if Jesus comes back to earth? Shouldn't we all win?

As for shutting up about whether or not God exists, why did you come here? Its pretty obvious from the forum description that this is a place to debate things of a religious nature, ie. GOD! Don't come into this forum if you don't like the idea of discussing whether or not God exists! Its very simple.

How can you claim to know that the Tooth Fairy doesn't exist?

Alright, so occasionally she doesn't do her job and the kid's parents have to do the tooth/money thing; it's not like I see many prayers being answered.

[quote]but honestly, I wouldn't really care. What you believe has no effect on me.[/quote[

What if people who believed in the Tooth Fairy got together and tried to get schools to teach that the Tooth Fairy made us all from Tooth Dust 6000 years ago? Or banned candy because rotten teeth are an abomination and dentists are amoral?
