| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Quick command question on a CISCO router..
What's the command to send a message to all users consoled into the router at that time (or all users consoled in to routers in the network, if that's possible)?
Is there a command to tell you how MANY users are currently consoled into the router, and/or what priveleges they're logged in to having? I'm not talking about users connected, as in, computers, I'm taking about someone physically jacked in, interfacing with the router thru HyperTerminal or Telnet or whatever.
And also, what mode do I need to be in? User, privileged, global config, what?

Re: Quick command question on a CISCO router..
Sounds like you're having some security issues.... hehe... I don't think there is a way to "instant message" a user, or even to see who is connected. But May i suggest setting up a new MOTD message? Possibly with contact information? Also if it is security reset your secret pw as well as vty passwords. Maybe someone knows more into depth than me. I know these routers have more commands than one could ever possibly learn in a lifetime. Good luck. Also, might i suggest cisco.com's rescources? I beleive they have online manuals as well as a messageboard.

Re: Quick command question on a CISCO router..
I know it's possible SOMEHOW, because in my ol dhischiol cisco class, we had 5 routers conncected together, independant of the rest of the network, and the instructor could send a message to all of us there were consoled in at the time... that's why I'm wondering.

Re: Quick command question on a CISCO router..
I haven't tried this so I'm not sure if this works or not but I am at the Cisco Academy but to see who is connected at the time you might want to try show users. The other one I don't know but I will ask around tommorow. What some people do is console into the router from another router and change the name of the router someone else is on.
