| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
Ok, the problem: I need to access a password protected accound on Win-XP.
I don't know the password, but another name then I can get onto (no password)has Administrative Properties.
Here's a diagram : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/I_Am_The_Frizzle_Fry/Misc/pass.bmp
As you can see, I need to log onto Charles Dickens' account, (most likely through Bret Ellis)
I can't delete an account, or change the password (unless I can change it back to what it was, which I don't know).
Are there any password recovery programs or something I can use for this? I recently have gotten Brutus to successfully retrieve a user name + password for a website, so I can probably figure out most programs.
I could eventually do this later, but I would like to do it by tonight (Eastern U.S. time).
Any links or programs? My email is Scottydont1212@walla.com.

Re: Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
from the second site i found on google
quote:How to Change User Password at Command Prompt
How to use the net user command to change the user password at a Windows command prompt. Only administrators can change domain passwords at the Windows command prompt. To change a user's password at the command prompt, log on as an administrator and type: "net user <user_name> * /domain" (without the quotation marks)
When you are prompted to type a password for the user, type the new password, not the existing password. After you type the new password, the system prompts you to retype the password to confirm. The password is now changed.
Alternatively, you can type the following command: net user <user_name> <new_password>. When you do so, the password changes without prompting you again. This command also enables you to change passwords in a batch file.
Non-administrators receive a "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied" error message when they attempt to change the password.
That would require you to know the previous password though.

Right, I need to leave with the same password, user accounts, Admin settings etc.
Basically so Charles Dickens can get onto his account without knowing that I was on, or that anything has changed.

Re: Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
reboot computer and start tapping F8-- you will get options to boot into safe mode-- boot into safe mode-- when the choose user screen comes up choose the default administrator user which has no password to get in(even if thier is already an admin a new admin login will appear which requires no password to gain entry)-- this is the default backup admin login which is there in case you lock yourself out of you computer-- the default admin has no password-- once you are in this account you can change ALL user passwords, includeing the real admin's pword-- go in-- look at user stuff then fix their password when you leave-- or you can remove the Cmus battery(looks like a watch battery), located on the motherboard, for 48 hours and it should reset but i haven't used the latter method 'cause it could fuck up your shit---
one more thing-- when your done useing the mark's acct. change the password to nothing-- no matter what they type in latter they will be able to get in...maybe-- do a trial run-- 057

Re: Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
OK, but I NEED to change the password to what it was before... How do I do that?
I can already get on by deleting the password to the account I want to get on, so there isn't one. But then how would I get it back to what it was before - seamless?

How do I change it back to what it was originally? Like a back button.
Or looking for a way (a program mabey) to view their p-word, so I don't have to change it.
When I'm done, as long as the password it the same as when I first went on, I'm good.
Just to look at files, their password must remain unchanged.

Re: Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
Remember, I already have admin capabilities on another username, that I CAN already get onto (no password).

Re: Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
If I were the user of the account you want to access, I would least notice someone tampered with my account if the password was reset to nothing. That way it could be blamed on an OS bug or something. So in short I suggest reset the password to nothing when you're done playing with it.

I may do that as a last resort, but I would rather not.

Re: Tricky WIN-XP User-Passwords Problem...
what exactly are you trying to do?-- if you have admin access then you can view any files on any1's acct. without messing with the passwords period-- i just did a safe mode boot to check this and i know i'm right-- you already have access to the whole computer- also, you could look into the SAM files for passwords-- 057
