There is software out there that enables you to hack into a wireless network in under 10 seconds. Wireless networks have almost no security. Google it.

what encryption does it use and if you cant, try moving your wireless laptop as close to his house as possible.

if its un-encrypted (doubt it) then connect to the network, check network neighbourhood for nearby computers or try guessing the other computers ip's (more than likely 192.168.0.2 or 10.0.1.2 or similar).

nmap them, then search bugtraq or packetstorm or anything exploit related.

ive done something similiar before. what you can do. if it is unsecured, you just hop on by connecting to it and then go to www.ipchicken.com (http://www.ipchicken.com) it'll tell you the external IP address. the default internal IP address is 192.168.1.x im pretty sure. at least for linksys networks. if he has a password then your gonna need a password cracker. once you hop on you can always packet sniff and if its got WEP encryption then they progz out there that easily can crack those packets or you can program one yourself.

capture about a million packets with ethereal (depending on the security key he uses you may need more or less packets).

Download airsnort or anything alike. A voice in my head sais it's best to use it on linux, windows can give you lots of problems 'cause u may need gnome kernell, emulator, etc...

Airsnort gives you an offline dictionary attack which exploits the breaches that are encountered in WEP-PSK keys. if he uses more than 256 keys, don't bother, ask a pro. Otherwise try for yourself, you might even learn something.

oh and some advice, use a mask, stealther, whatever, just make sure you don't appear in the DHCP log of the router, or at least make it look different...

When you enable encryption on a wireless connection you need to use the same key as the AP. The AP gets to dictate what that key is. You can't just pick your own key and expect it to work.

You can use encrypted protocols over the wireless connection once its been established. SSH and https are two that come to mind.

i donno if you are still reading this thread anymore but i forgot to mention that if you cant get on and its not prompting you for a password then im assuming hes got a MAC filter, thats probably the only other way he's keeping you out other than the fact you might be too far away. IF hes got a MAC filter i would just packet sniff and find out which MAC addresses are being allowed and then change your MAC address to one of the allowed ones.
