Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

Yes
Default Lots of phone things.

I have a million questions, so I figured I'd put them all into one topic rather than flood a bunch of topics.

1. Does anyone have manuals or documentation pertainin to the Craft Access System, or any other dial-in phone system?

2. Are ALL 800 and 888 prefix numbers toll free?

3. There are all these switching stations, big brick verizon buildings, etc. near me. How can I find the numbers for those buildings? I've attempted to look it up in the phone book/internet listings but it is unlisted.

4. What are some general 'Phun' phone numbers?

5. I've come across telco boxes which contain their own phones/phone hooks. Would it be possible to make contact directly with them? how, and where could I find the number(s)

6. Does anyone have any manuals pertaining to phone terminals/boxes?

7. Any general information on the telephone system buildings and/or terminals is appreciated.

Ok

1-Probably Not

2-Yes, but 900 is not

3-There is no phone number to there i beleve. Thats where your phone calls go. Call someone and you go through there to get connected, so why call it?

4-911

5-Those are boxes that connect the neighborhoods to the switching stations. Yes, there are things called line phones that you can connect to the terminals for repair. If you cennect to a line, you are connecting to someones phone #, getting a dial tone.

6-Probably not

7-No
