| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Re: Is there a registry tool ...
Use the command line version of regedit to export the registry before you install and after.
You can use any text compare tool to see what changed.

Re: Is there a registry tool ...
Thank you.
But the registry is HUGE. How would I know what portions to compare? If there was a program that would quickly do it...
edit: ugh typo.

Re: Is there a registry tool ...
Yes, there are programs that are for doing this specifically.
One I know of is named System Mechanic from Iolo Software. How it works is, you start up the System Mechanic "Safe Installer", and then you run the "target" program you want to install from within System Mechanic's Safe Installer, and it generates a log file of all the changes that the "target" program makes: registry entries, directories and files made or deleted.
.....I had ver 3.7 cracked running on my previous Win98 install, it worked fine there but I have not tried it on WinXP, I don't know if it works on XP or not. I am seeing web pages describing its use on NT, so it might.

Re: Is there a registry tool ...
That's a better solution.
I'm too old school for such trickery.

Re: Is there a registry tool ...
Also you can use the System Mechanic program to accurately uninstall programs as well, and that way you know that everything the program put in will get taken out.
-------
It's almost necessary for playing around with cracks on some programs. I got System Mechanic because at the time I was playing around with cracked versions of AutoCAD, and people warned me you had to install cracked versions of AutoCAD with -some- kind of safe installer utility because AutoCAD leaves "anonymous" entries all over the registry, it puts in hundreds of entries, it puts in like 350+ entries, I am not shitting you. A lot of those entries don't have any actual text in them, just alphanumeric strings: you won't find them by using regedit and searching for "Autocad". And if your crack doesn't work and you uninstall AutoCAD normally and try to reinstall it again it won't work, because it leaves some registry entries behind during uninstall and it will know from some of those "anonymous" registry entries that you have already tried to install a cracked version.
