| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Need some help
My aunt has an old computer compaq something or other and it recently fucked up. She cant get anything to work the monitor is fine she checked it on another computer to make sure it was ok but anyways she sent the hardrive to my step dad and he asked me what I thought of a screenshot (he has the harddrive set up as a slave) and im asking you guys cause I have no fucking clue lol. When you try to open one of those folders it says some error...
ran scandisk on it and it says ....
convert folder to file y/n? yes
unrecoverable error in folder /cpqs
then it says conver to file again with the same crap afterwards like "error in /cpqdrv" or /lutil...all kinds of shit like that.
Here is a screen. http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=185468&poll_id=0&warned=y
Any help appreciated thx.

Re: Need some help
Does it boot when its setup as a master drive?
Try that and see.
I think the harddrives heads are going corrupt somehow.

Re: Need some help
Looks similar to when I accidently put a speaker magnet on my pile of floppy disks...
If you need the data, I used a 'corrupt file recovery' program called BadCopy Pro, which seemed to work. There's probably something better about nowadays.
Otherwise, formatting and re-partioning will probably fix it. Just try not to store anything critical on it.

Re: Need some help
Well when he ran scandisk on it the files that looked like that in the screenshot returned to normal but the other files were fucked up so he just formatted it. It happened after some guy checked his email on her comp so im pretty sure the dumbass fucked it up somehow.
