| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

New Denial of Service
This Denial of service attack has been maded public already in september I haven't seen it discust here. It is really dangerous every system is affected not only one little program but again as the ping of death the tcp-ip stack is vulnerable.

Re: New Denial of Service
Well, it looks like neither my WinXP machines nor my Linux machines are vulnerable to it.
They must've botched up the code.
Or its a non-genuine exploit.

Re: New Denial of Service
^^These are the original exploits that were released to the public. And this exploit falls into the category of the ping of death, you need to sent many of them to cause huge amounts usage of resources. They are a million time more effective then normal ping flooding, this will not shut down your Internet connection only cause resource exhausting and traffic. If you want you can create an ack/syn storm by attacking several hosts with each others ips they will fire back at each other. Sent to many host with one ip and they all fire at that ip (ddos with ack/syn icmp storm + packet fragmentation overflow, read the exploits for more info)
Have fun.

Re: New Denial of Service
what the hell are you talking about
ping of death is an old exploit where sending atleast just ONE ping of size 64k exactly would cause any win 95 comp to crash.

Re: New Denial of Service
Yes you are right I maded a mistake.
The category is the one of the Packets fragmentation handling as explained above, my mistake was that I tought the ping of death had does this too, I messed up some names after so many years.
You can find a complete discription of the method used by New Dawn http://digital.net/~gandalf/Rose_Frag_Attack_Explained.htm
and look here for some more info about which systems are affected.http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/11258/info/

Re: New Denial of Service
Well, that's nice I suppose. ;)
Even more of a reason for people to educate themselves on such matters.
Have the ability to fuck, or be fucked.
