Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

I'm working on level 15 right now. Its some encrypted german shit. I'm gonna get out some hex tools but i'll prolly give up in a few minutes. I'll get back to ya if I can get it.

Edit: Nahh, i'm giving up now. I don't even know german, and translators don't help much. If anyone wants to give it a shot on level 15 I might post the encrypted string and expansion.

The object is simple. Get past the password prompts in each level. Understanding javascripts & html helps...

Kinda new at this stuff? Hopefully this will get you started...

Each level requires a password to move on to the next level, but I can't give you anymore than this....

What you need to do is examine the source code and locate the "security flaw" by either finding/deciphering the password there, or figure out where it is and how to get it.

Once you have the password, insert it into the prompt and move on to the next level...

what ive gathered: it has something to do with the letters a, b, and c. theres 2 equal signs where it seems there should only be one for some reason. and, for whatever reason, the german word for input has replaced the english one. also, the denied page is different from the others...

edit; ok im really getting frustrated, i want to kick my fucking computer.

click view->then view source then use that psuedo algebra ok on three it says:

var d1, Eingabe;

d1=window.document.linkColor;

Eingabe=prompt ("Please enter password");

if (Eingabe==d1)

{

window.location.href=String.fromCharCode(65,66,67) +".htm";

}

else

{

window.location.href="denied.htm";

}

so what this means is if you get the pw right then it kicks you to window.location.href=String.fromCharCode(65,66,67) +".htm"; well 65,66,67 is abc so that gives you

window.location.href=String.fromCharCodeabc.htm";

but what is up with the rest of it its a link (href) but it wants a string from char code is it just asking for you to put abc.htm as the file name?

On 3:

d1=window.document.linkColor;

Eingabe=prompt ("Please enter password");

if (Eingabe==d1)

What u see from the code is that d1 is the key, find the linkcolor in the code and it´s all downhill

On 4:

A little hint, ever heared about hex?

I got to 8 but got bored.

I finish it after I figure out how to make a sequel to a game which seems to be unable to have a sequel. (Actually it's done and I just have to convert it from messy point-form notes)

Think of it like this, the passwd u write puts u on a site www.whatever.com/hackit8/passwd.htm (http://www.whatever.com/hackit8/passwd.htm)

then where do u think the site u are looking for would be so that u can reach it from the directory u are in?

I don't feel like doing that right now, but if I could get the info to get to 15 then maybe I could take a crack at it. It'd be interesting if somewhere far along there would be some x86/z80/68k CGI program to disassemble, I think assembly is dead easy. I frickin' learned it in 2 years by myself in 8th grade, after which I couldn't find much else interesting to learn. Disassembly is definitely one thing I want to get in to add another dimension to it, though.

Level 7 Spoiler****

You need to turn off javascript, or set it to prompt. Then you can goto the page without the password box popping up.

Anyone got any hints on level 14? Cheers

i believe with 7, if you look at the source, you will find a url to a .js file. might be a different filetype. get that file, and open it. read the code.

I did all 16 in less than 15 minutes, sheesh. You guys want something a bit tougher, head over to slyfx.com. Now, slyfx still isn't that hard, but if I can beat the entire thing in about 10 minutes, it's way too easy. At least you have to decompile some of the slyfx stuff and it's not all view source crap.

***********ruins level 3!***********

allright, this probably isnt allowed, but heres a block of code for level 3:

code:<pre>

var d1, Eingabe;

d1=window.document.linkColor;

Eingabe=prompt ("Please enter password");

if (Eingabe==d1) </pre>

ok, so in the first line, its defineing the variables. eingabe is the prompt, and d1 is window.doucment.linkcolor.

so, window.document.linkColor isnt the password itself, so it must represent something.

you need to look at the stuff at the top in order to find the password. and as somebody already said, there is a # somewhere in the password.

now, in html, what is one thing that needs a #?

color.

i wont say anymore, you should be able to figure the rest out.

For Level 10

Is there more real code in there, except the page source and the .js file? Are u using any special software? Cause IE doesnt turn up jack, except those two things.

Also does it have to do "anything" with math?

Thanks

I guess there are two source4.js files. So what we see is the fake one. You must find how to see the real one. I did not use any special software.

There is nothing to do with math, and I have spent a lot of time doing it. It is a really tricky.

I need help for level 11, only can guess 2 passwords out of 5...Any hints?

Thanks.

u know u have to press on the enter link for the javascript file to be activated and send to your computer... If u don´t click on the link, then the file is there but doesn´t contain the real code...

Default Re: Challenge for hackers

quote: thanx man i finally got it before i reead this post oh well any advice on 4?

what is the objective? to get the password? no. to get [B]past[B] the password.

code:<pre>var a=unescape("%43%4f%44%45%5a");

function check()

{

if (document.a.c.value == a)

{

document.location.href="http://scifi.pages.at/hackits/"+document.a.c.value+".htm";

</pre>

ok, so in the first line were defing the varable a, which is %43%4f%44%45%5a. now in the last line(of the block above), we can see that if we get the password right, it adds the variable a, onto http://scifi.pages.at/hackits/.

so if we get the password right it links us to the 'password accepted' page. who needs the password when you can just get around it?

---------------

quote: There is always a prime between n and 2n

well im not a 10 yet, but ill try to help. i'm going to assume that there was no variable called n, so lets choose a random number to be called n, i'll just choose 5. now according to the statment, there will then be a prime between 5 and 10, which is 7. if n whas 2, the prime number(s) would be 2 and 3. if n were 20, the first prime would be 23. so the statment has to be true, because it works with any number(excluding decimals). i dont now if the last part will help at all, it just came to my head then i saw it.

Hey all, I am new to posting at the boards here but have been following them for around a year. I am stumped on 9. I have got through the first 8 without any trouble. I know that when you input a password, it sends you to http://www.website.com/dir/dir(inputed text).htm. I have tried looking at the files in this dir. And cannot find anything besides a 403 error page. Any help would be appreciated.
