2 screens
I have a radeon 9550 and it has a blue (out) on it and I have the original still at the top. I was wondering if I could get the two of the to work at the same time.
I know it will show the same thing on both screens but the way my room is set up I need on screen faceing the bed so that I can watch tv.

Re: 2 screens
You should be able to have differnet things on each screen as well, actually.
You can set them to clone mode though.

Re: 2 screens
Plug one screen into one port, an one into the other.
Right click on the desktop, go to settings, click on the monitor of your choice,, check the little box that says 'extend my windows desktop onto this monitor', and go from there.
I have my tv connected via a 5m s-video extension cable, great for movies, games ect.

Re: 2 screens
Ok, after a little discussion with an old friend, I have decided to give it a go with dual monitors.
However, I need to go find an adapter before I can do anything.
Anyway, it sounds like you have one monitor plugged into your graphics card, and one in your Mobo? Wont work. Your GFX card should have a white port with funny squares to the right of the one your screen is in now, that port is for your second monitor. You have to go buy an adapter like I plan to tomorrow, and plug your other monitor into that.
Then from what I gather, right click on desktop and go to your "ATI Catalyst control center" and go to the "displays" tab, then detect your second screen and decide which is going to be which, and apply.
Now, lets hope it works
EDIT: Just found the adapter in a drawer, worked like a charm
Totse + Family Guy at the same time = Good times.

Re: 2 screens
I have another question... do you have to have another keyboard and mouse? How does all of that work out?

Re: 2 screens
When the mouse goes off the edge of one screen, it shows up at the edge of another.
The keyboard works as usual, inputting data to the active window.

Re: 2 screens
I drove all over town and I spent 3 hours going in every computer store and none of them had it... the one that did it was 150 bucks for that little connector.
Is there a good place online to buy one? Were did you get yours?

Re: 2 screens
If you want more monitors, the easiest/cheapest way to do it is buy old PCI graphics cards off ebay, that's what I did.
I have an ATI 9600XT, I bought two Matrox Millenium IIs at £4 ($10) each off ebay and put them in, and now I have a triple-monitor setup.
The ATI card supports 2 monitors on its own, but the second is only via S-Video, so sometimes I plug it into my TV and have 4 monitors, but the resolution on the TV is crappy so I usually don't bother.

desktop2 (http://webzoom.freewebs.com/ormy/desktop2.jpg)
EDIT: I forgot to mention, this method is only possible with win XP (maybe 2000, im not sure). And you'll notice I have a taskbar for each monitor that I can minimize things to, so all my programs don't get cramped up on the taskbar on my main monitor. You'll also notice that I have a single image spanning all 3 monitors, this is done with a neat program called "UltraMon".

Re: 2 screens
To extend the Windows taskbat onto the other monitors, there's a setting in the video options of WinXP for ..."extend taskbar onto multiple monitors". I think though if you do this, then the wallpaper on the first screen extends to the other screen also however.
----------
Most people now who want dual screens jut buy a dual-screen card, but there are advantages and disadvatnages to doing it off one card, it really depends on what you want to do with the screens. It used to be that dual-screen-output videocards weren't real good for gaming, but that's not true anymore, many high-end cards have dual video outs. ,,,,,To my knowledge there's VERY few games that can use dual-screens in any way. What it really is great for is working, having a bunch of programs open.

Thats what I ordered.
I am new to the whole 2 screen set up and it would save alot of time if you could tell what programs are good to have.
I really don't know what I am getting into until I get the adapter.
EDIT: I took a pic of what the back looks like (blurry) I have a vga, s-video, and a dvi.

Nevermind that, I gots me UltraMon.
Camaro_racer, Set up the two screens with ATI's catalyst control center, which should have come with your card.
Once you have them set up, get UltraMon for sure. It gives you an extra taskbar for the second screen and well, its prettymuch just awesome to have.
UltraMon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/download.asp)
And so you don't get stuck with the trial version,

Re: 2 screens
On the videocard, you can get adaptors for hooking a DVI output to a VGA-type monitor. SO you can use at least two VGA screens that way.
