This is a subject I know nothing about.
I was just thinking, and, couldn't someone with an ATM card and account like...trick/hack the machine so you could get more money, but not have it taken from your account? Is that possible (I assume it is), and if so, can it be done conspiciously?
DISCLAIMER: ALL OF THE ABOVE IS HYPOTHETICAL AND WAS WRITTEN FOR INFORMATIONAL,EDUCATIONAL, AND/OR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. IF ANYONE DECIDES TO TAKE THE INFORMATION FROM THIS THREAD AND USE IT FOR ILLEGAL PURPOSES I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE.
PS. is there anyway to make that disclaimer permanent on my posts?

Yes, it *is* possible. But you need some extreme skills in the areas of social engineering and computer science. I don't know exactly how, but there is a way.
On another note, if your caught doing this there are some SERIOUS charges coming your way.

Anything is possible, however the chances of you or anyone accomplishing this is slim and none. I wouldnt mess with ATM machines if I were you...

I haven't talked to anyone on this site that has "the skills to pay the bills" on the subject of ATMs.
Much easier to commit fraud than plain out hack ATM's. The only person I know who had the ability, is now in jail. Not much help now is he?
It isn't too hard to suppress the alarm and then burglarize them... but emulating transactions runs into the problem of super scary high level encryption.

I'm not talking about actually breaking to the machine. I'm talking about taking a legal account, accessing the machine, and then, using some method to confuse the machine into giving you more money (but not taking it out of your account). Like, maybe you could trick it into giving you 40 when you ask for 20.

say you get $100 at the ATM. the machine will stick out 5 20's in its little clamp thingie that holds the money. on old machines, if you pulled out the middle 3 bills only and let the machine eventually pull the money back in, it wouldnt count as a transaction. but i know that doesnt work on newer machines.

No, but just to let you know disclaimers are worthless, especially ones not written by a lawyer. Just keep all your post in forms of "some guy I know" or "would it be possible", and you should be fine.

Perhaps..
Implanting a trojan on an atm card and activating from somewhere else leaves you with access to the atm. However to get caught would result in serious punishment. I havent tested my theory but im almost positive it would work with a card programmer which you can buy from a multidtude of sites and with a little programming...maybe but you would have to be a crazy motherfucker to try it

Put the disclaimer in your From: field.
Okay, here's a way to get a good amount of cash out of an ATM. Make sure that you have more than twice the maximum amount you can withdraw in one day in your account. At almost midnight, dress up in all black, wear a mask or a hat, whatever. You want to look suspicious, and you don't want to look like you. Platform shoes might come in handy, you could wear a hat with fake hair coming out, et cetera. At almost midnight, withdraw the maximum amount. Then, right after midnight, do it again, because it's a whole new day. At most banks I've seen, 300-500 is the maximum amount, so you'll have 600-1,000 bucks on you. Anyway, the next day, call the bank and say your wallet went missing, and it had your ATM card, credit cards, et cetera in it. They'll probably ask you if you had your PIN written down on a piece of paper in your wallet or anything, say "Y'know, I might have written it down." Anyway, they'll do a lame, half-assed "investigation," and credit your account back the amount that was lost. Nifty, huh?
Note that the above is highly theoretical, I don't know of anyone who's done it.

I thought you'd have to complain to the police first. Then tell the bank.

Won't work. You have no idea how mag cards work. First there isn't enough space on the cards, second ATM machines don't RUN programs.

Re: ATM hacking?
It's quite possible, but as said above, the chances of you getting away clean is slim to none.
But I'm sure if you were good enough at Cryptology you could just decrypt the encryption algorythm used on the bank cards and rewrite a card so it accesses Bill Gate's Account. :P
Oh I know maybe you can buy one of those things you plug into any card outlet and it automatically hacks into whatever it's inserted into? All the people in movies have one!

Re: ATM hacking?
Here are two ideas I have heard about in the past that worked. One a little more technologicaly advanced then the other.
Two guys put on some coveralls like mechanics wear and walk into 7-11 or any other similar store with a push cart. They give the clerk some bogus story and cart the ATM away. These smaller ATMs are easy to steal since they weigh less but they also only hold around $20,000 instead of the several hundred thousand that the ones built into buildings house.
The more advanced method. Some guy gets a job at a gas station where they have ATM/Debit card readers. The type where you can get cash back by entering your PIN with the little stylus pen on the screen. He hooks a laptop under the counter between the card reader and cash register. Then he uses a program he wrote called SNIP (pins backwards) that captures all the card info. He later uses blank cards and a card programmer to make copies of the cards. To get the pin numbers, he installs a small hidden camera in the ceiling above the maching. Now he can use all the cards and withdraw money on them until they get cancled.

Re: ATM hacking?
Fuck hacking into one, buy a used tow truck and just take the whole damn thing, then you can drive it down to your local police station and ask them to help you open it.
You may as well call jail and make reservations.
BTW the smash and grab-the-ATM has only worked once ever, I remember hearing about the guy getting away. everyone else who has attemped it either underestemated how well they are bolted down, or were caught soon after.

this happened in my town once:
the idiot atm cash guys put $50 notes in the $20 note slot, so when someone withdrew $20 they got $50 etc.......
it might be possible for u to bribe one of the guards to do this........
or alternativly watch someone type their pin and then take their card

Re: ATM hacking?
I just thought of another method which might actually work. So far this seems to be the case with all accounts I have had but yours might be different. When you deposit money into an ATM, half the money is immediately put into your account and the other half is put in after they verify you actually put money into the ATM. So go setup some bogus account. Tell the ATM you are going to deposit some money, then instantly withdraw it. I have never tried this to see if it works, but since the money is deposited like that it should.

Re: ATM hacking?
My friend (who can be found in the MS forum) knew quite a bit about the technology and protocols used by ATM machines and could hack them, however they were changed (but it can easily be done with research and skill). Now he recommends simply using liquid nitrogen to break the locks on them, which is supposed to be fairly easy.
I have the patents for the security features lying around on my computer somewhere, but you could probably find them with a google search (the secret is to know what is out there and how to find it, not so much to have it).
As for cameras just wear a mask, blind the camera with a laser pointer whatever. Discussion on that and saying stuff like "dress up like a machine repair man" or "work at the place" isn't contributing anything.
Sorry if I come off as an asshole. I'm only trying to help.

Re: ATM hacking?
Actually it was more helpful then your bull shit post becaue it told how people in the past have ripped of ATMs instead of just making shit up like you. I have a friend who did that all the time but isn't around anymore. Yes everyone has a friend who could hack anything but isn't around anymore. And I have these magical files that tell you all about the security but I can't seem to find them because they are probably on the CD as my FBI username and password datebase so you better go to google because you can find the same ATM stuff along with my other stuff somewhere.

Re: ATM hacking?
Newb you know nothing. Promethean Sky is the friend and these are the patent numbers (from the Forum):
6,36 0,945 Hidden security partition.
6,36 1,043 Money dispensing mechanism.
6,35 7,657 Anti fraud device.
6,35 3,889 Portable data key actuator.
6,33 4,117 Automated HTML banking machine (could be the future)
But you're probably too stupid to even figure out how to download pantents. Here (http://www.prime-radiant.com/technologies/ATM.html) also is a list of ATM related patents. You're probably to stupid to know how to use them even if you could.
Take your ideas with dressing like a mechanic and shove it up your ass. You are an idiot k3wl and should learn not to talk shit.
cross-one hates you.

Re: ATM hacking?
Anyone can look up patents. It's not that hard to do. They don't really help that much either. Maybe if you had some technical schematics about how the devices work.

Re: ATM hacking?
This has a ridiculously low success rate, but you know how kids sell HDs on Ebay? Well, i've heard of several incidents where HDs where bought and some of them belonged to ATM machines. My friend even told me that once a bunch of college nerds got a hold of some software that tech guys use to recover information off reformatted hard drives, bought a bunch of hard drives, and pulled off tons of information on 80% of the HDs, some of them belonging to ATM machines. As I said, low success rate, but possible.
