look for sciencey websites i once stumbled on one that had little magnets with 500 pounds per inch

Try a website called United Nuclear. Although Im not sure if you are looking for those kinds of magnets.

You can get them off of Ebay. Search for "powerful magnet" and you'll find all the Neodymium rare earth magnets.

Well, this is probably what you weren't looking for, but I might as well toss it up.

Go to ebay and start looking around for old, obsolete, or broken hard drives. I bet you could find one for 5 bucks or less.

Just to clarify what phlab said, you take the neodinyum(sp) magnets out of them. They are usually on the big side of the needle, away from the disk platters. Oh, and dont make the stupid mistake I made my first time. Whatever you do, dont try to see if the magnets will mate in the air...they are rather brittle.
