Holes in glass?
Could someone please tell me how to create (sans glasscutters) a hole with a diameter of about a centimeter in a window pane, if it is at all possible even?

Re: Holes in glass?
I did this sort of thing once.
I took 2 pieces of wood and a glass cutter and stapled the glass cutter to the end of a piece of wood. Then i took the other piece of wood and made a T out of the2 pieces. Then i had what looked like a letter H.
|-| The first | = glass cutter.
Second | = Wood, then the dash is a wood piece.
Then on the wood | (not the dash) i took a suction cup from one of those wall sticking basketball hoops. and i stuck a wood dowel piece in the back opf the suction cup and drilled a hole in the wood to make the dowel easy to rotate.
I used it on some glass, and as the other person posted, i used duct tape around where i cut the circle. I tapped it quite a bit then with a little pressure it made a (not so clean) circle.
Try and modify it.
Also.if you have a way to make a ring of ice with a hollow center. You can put a blow torch in the center, and the cold and hot meeting with crack the glass in the correct form. hold the ice ring, blow heat into the middle. Works well. also. No finger prints. Ice melts. If you live in a cold climate, try during winter. windows being cracked by heat is a lot quiter than widnows cracked by smaking it with a rock.
Or try melting or scraping the outside caulk holding in the window pane. Makes it so you can put it back and make entry less obvious. But fingerprints are a big problem there.
If you just want a centimeter as you said. Then buy a ceramic drill bit. They are meant to cut through porcelain tile and glass is basically the same thing. But again, the drill is noisy. Unless you dont care about noise. But glass is different.
Tempered is strong and just does the spider web pattern when struck, normal pane glass shatters from just about anything, the wire reenforced glass is PERFECT for the heating situation because only a small part will crack. Some glass is thicker and wont take a glass cutter well.
BTW, movie abuse of glass has absolutely no comparison to real glass.

Re: Holes in glass?
Take a pair of boards, cut a hole to the diamter you want. put them on both sides of the pane of glass. And then throw the rock through the hole.

Re: Holes in glass?
If you put tape over the entire window and then smash the window it doesn't make a noise whatsoever. If you put in on just one piece you could in principle make a small hole in it. just think about it as a baloon. If you put one piece of tape on a baloon and then you punsh a hole in it with a needle the baloon won't explode.
If you got a window made from double glass it won't work because it are 2 seperate windows and then inside window will shatter and fall on the ground.
