Default Wonders of a Police Scanner

Well me n my buddy have an older universal scanner, it works fine and we have a book of codes, I know of some pretty funny shit you can do with recording voices and calling people and playing it and shit , its happened to me before. Whats the most fun we can salvage and how illegal would these activities be? thanks

In the 60's-70's in south FL people would scan the Coast Guard channels. Whenever they heard the call go out to get air-dropped bales of weed and coke they would go out and grab em before the feds got there. They made a nice living too, catching the 'square grouper'.

See if you can think of something similar.

Whilst doing something illegal, ensure the police haven't been called. Or, you could just go take a look at interesting happenings you hear, yea, forget the first one, the second one's better.

I think you can pick up phone calls too, like from older cordless phones.

(Hypothetically) My father and I have two scanners, and somehow he cut something on the boards inside so we can hear everyone in town. Really neat shit. We can hear McDonalds, Wal-Mart, etc.

You and your father hypothetically were lucky. Most new scanners have special blocks that makes them almost impossible to modify for listening to cellphone convos. I say you and your father hypothetically had a very old scanner.

On a side note, you can pick up old scanners and modify them to become full range. I dont have any details as far as instructions go, but I do beleive it involves taking a blocker/coating/ off a peice of the tuner, or adding in peices to the tuner. Like I said, my mind is fuzzy in this area. Also, if you get lucky and get a super old scanner, you might be getting something antique but it can pick up full range radio.

The best option for you is a canadian or other foreign scanner. They have FULL range, which means anything in the radio waves within their power. You can listen to cellphones, cordless phones, police, anything. However, note the fact that most cellphones are now digital, as well as some police in large cities. LA for example has a digital police radio system.

Mostly its only cell channels that are blocked... Radio Free Amerika could help with moding older models.

I have a shitty unmodable one from Rat Shack... but at least it was free. lol
