A loooooong time ago I made a post about experimenting with sleep deprivation, but I didn't last too long before falling asleep.
Now I'm trying it again and I'm really gonna do it. My goal is 48 hours, but I really want to go up to 60+ so i can get some visual hallucinations. So far I have been up for 24 hours. Audio hallucinations should start around 30-36 hours from what I've read.. I have had audio hallucinations due to sleep deprivation before and it's fun as hell, i can't wait.
The one thing that I will do differently is that when I start to get REALLY tired I will try to spend most of my time outdoors and move around a lot. Last time I just stayed indoors and thats how I ended up falling asleep..

About tuesday of this week i tried this, i stayed up for about 30 and fell asleep. Ive stayed up around 36 before and nothing happened. I got a pointer for you as well, drink lots of Chek colas, they make you hyper as hell and will also make you pee every five minutes.

my record for staying up is like fucking 51 hours, and its fun as hell. i mean you start to hear things, and u pretend ur in The Ring, or Jeepers Creepers, and its fun. you are gonna have a blast, even tho ull probably fall asleep within 5 minutes of your hallucinations, if you dont struggle to stay awake :] its fun, enjoy it

The longest time I've ever actually stayed away is 72 hours. Yes, 3 days. I went through over 20 24cases of soda. The hallucinations started at about 57, and man are those fun. I acted like some military dude on a secret mission. Funny as hell too, as I caught it all on tape. Some of the audio hallucinations aren't very fun though, I hear things like my dead cousin saying stuff, and all sorts of weird ass shit.
Good luck and have fun

My record is 75. I've done that twice.
You don't get LSD-style hallucinations, most of the time. You just get a very floaty, high-pressure feeling, and you sometimes see weird stuff out of the corner of your eye. My favorite example is the time my school science-fair project board tried to hug me. That freaked me out.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
isn't there a certain point where lack of sleep becomes dangerous to your health? thats all I'd be worried about. Sounds interesting, but somehow I doubt I'll be trying this very soon. If I had 72 hours to spare, I've got a few other things that need doing.

I've got you all so far with 115 hours, thats 5 hours off of 5 days. You get wierd hallucinations, but they are those out of the corner of your eye ones. You get these bubbles popping infront of your eyes though. I was VERY irratable too.

Yes, but AFAIK nobody knows exactly when it becomes dangerous. Probably somewhere around a week. I've read that after 3 weeks the hallucinations can become somewhat permenant.

No. That's if you do go back to sleep again :P
Once you go back to sleep you will just stay in REM sleep for longer than usual, and you should be fine when you wake up.
I think the longest recorded instance of someone staying up is about 11 days. They slept for a shitload afterwards, but then he was fine when he awoke.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
my advice is take 10+ xenedrin efx diet pills a day, 4 every 5 hours. ive stayed up about six days on this. i havent ever experianced any hallucinations tho. i just tend to smoke a lot more and i get kinda delirious. the downside to the xenadrin is its an appitite suppresent too so you might end up losing some weight while your on it. another thing ive noticed that helps is taking ginko with the xenadrine. its effects should highten the caffine effects so ur more awake. good luck. just never look at your bed past day 2. dont get near it. seriously

I love the way I got the exact opposite answers to the same question, I guess if I was really gonna do it I'd just look up the record and keep it under that. On my tombstone I'd prefer it didn't say "He's just catching up on his sleep, permanently."

I bet that was drug-assisted, though. Last time I did 75 I didn't even have caffeine...I don't smoke or drink...I was actually fasting for a good amount of the time, as well, drank nothing but water and ate a few melba toast cracker thingies.

If you really want to experience hallucinations, try going on Zoloft for two weeks, then taking a double dose of sudafed. (I wasn't thinking about the drug interactions at the time, I was only thinking about panic disorder and a nasty head cold).
My boss sent me home from work that day, told me to sleep it off. But man, what a trip.

heh i had someone stay with me the whole time to punch me when i was falling asleep.
Made 3 days without the aid of drugs. Got odd introspection and horrible apathy, but no hallucinations.
Its almost impossible to do indoors, you get bored and say "fuck it" and go to bed.

ive gone 4 days, without the use of caffiene/stimulants.
With caffiene it tends to be less, due to me overdoign it, and ending up getting caffiene poisoning. Usually only like 30 odd hours with caffiene.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
When I made the topic I fell asleep shortly after.. I pretty much gave up because I had nothing to do, time was moving SO slowly, and I had no caffeine or food and was tired as hell. Now I have things to do and I have a good amount of caffeine & munchies. It has been 28 hours. When I get tired I have lots of soda or coffee and i feel fine. I've read that caffeine will only give you energy for 15 minutes so whether it's placebo or not i duno but it's working.
In the oooooold topic about sleep deprivation someone posted something about a dj for a radio station getting no sleep for 2 or 3 weeks or something like that.. he went crazy, his wife left him, and he was fUcked. duno if its true i just remember someone saying it.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
I am a wimp compared to you guys.. about 30 hours for me. But for a REAL challenge try not to eat for a weak or so. I hear that that is harder than sleeping. I was on a guys website and went a full week without food. I documented it with pictures and journal entries. It was very interesting. Around the 4th day he was just wigging out.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
The most I stayed up for was 53 hours, but a pot of coffee helped me along. After about 24 hours the colors became more vivid and I got a "second wind". I began to doze off for only seconds at a time without realising it as time went on. As I approached 53 hours I was so damn tired and beginning to get slight auditory hallucinations, but nothing major.. sorta dream-like hallucinations.
I don't remember how I got back to my hotel room.. I just remember feeling like there were ghosts/spirits looking at me from behind as I fell asleep. I wasn't drinking any alcohol. Just on either Xanax or Valium and all of that coffee. (Xanax or Valium was for panic attacks).
From what I learned in psychology class and from TV documentaries, a DJ in the 1950s stayed up for over 100hours without sleep. He began to have visual hallucinations with regards to his food and became increasingly paranoid. This was during his telethon, trying to raise money for charity and seeing how long he could stay awake.
He became paranoid and wigged out and after sleeping it off, he was never the same man again.
Reports say that the brain can be permanently damaged from lack of sleep, even if you sleep 5 or 6 hours a night and feel normal...it's doing damage.
Sleep deprivation is also very bad for the heart and if you've noticed, your heart tends to pump a lot harder and faster when you are sleep deprived. Not a good thing if you have a heart condition... and couple that with caffeine or other stimulant drugs and you are asking for a heart arrhythmia which can be fatal.
But anyway, for most of us, staying awake for 2 days once in a blue moon is no big deal. Just don't drive.
I drove once after being awake for 48 hours.. from Iowa to Mississippi (850 miles) in a '79 Jeep. Started dozing off behind the wheel, but even when awake had some hallucinations that angels were telling me to wreck the Jeep and crap like that.
Weird shit I tell ya. It was fun the first time I tried it (when I wasn't driving).
Vivid colors and some slight visuals and daydreaming.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
The longest I ever stayed up was 52 hours, but I was trippin the whole time. We Robotripped on like a sunday and the next day I had not gone to sleep, I went to work trippin my balls off and still didnt go to sleep that night, i just couldnt, i was wide awake. I would only reccomend doin this like once a year though cuz I didnt eat for 4 days straight, i lost a lot of weight. Its an experience I dont regret though, and will prolly do it again. Be careful though, dont get the wrong shit or youll like get poisoned and really really sick, and if you do it too often youll lose all your happy juice.

It is 1:22 Am here. I just smoked weed a while ago and am starting to come down now. I woke up 2 days ago at 4:00 PM. I have been awake for 33 hours and 23 minutes.I'm tired i guess but nothing too bad at all, still planning on going 60+
2:00am feeling kinda weird mentally.. keep losing concentration, duno just feel weird. by morning i should be feeling pretty fucking crazy
2:25am I heard whispering.. I don't know if it was real or not but I know I heard it and as far as I know everyone is sleeping

Re: Sleep Deprivation
Sleep dep is definitely something interesting to try. I've heard its even more harmful than quite a few illegal drugs (minus the addiction). I've never had the audio hallucinations, but a bit of the visual. As you might imagine, you can't really remember, its kind of like a dream. A really bad side effect, but sometimes good, is being paranoid; VERY paranoid. I don't know if you guys get it, but you feel like you're going crazy or something, its pretty tight. I dont feel like talkin bout it, go ahead and try for yourself.
It perm affects the brain. Like that DJ who stayed up for hours. He, and others lose sense of reality and become VERY violent. I'm violent enough, and sleep dev doesn't help, so watch out.

Damn..I ran out of caffeine and fell asleep at 5:00 am. I stayed up for 37 hours :\
I heard some weird shit that either wasn't real or were really small sounds that sounded loud. Whenever I looked at my window I thought I saw someone looking in for a second. I was starting to feel really crazy.
It didn't feel good at all, but now that I have gotten sleep, it feels so good to be back to earth. It's not something I want to try again, it was interesting though.

Re: Sleep Deprivation
Just did a 60 hour span over last day or so. I wouldn't have if I didn't have to. Had to do 4 AP summer projects in about 4 days (believe me, not a fun thing to do). These projects were supposed to have been worked on all summer, so a casual attitude wasn't gonna cut it. So I just spent 60 agonizing hours doing homework. I wasn't even sleepy, but I was tired of the work. I was trancing out with some nice music, conserving energy. Its easy staying up 60 hours in a house. I've spent comparable time outdoors, damp and nearly freezing. I'm still amazed I didn't get hypothermia.

I guess I'll give this a try. I have work to keep me occupied. So far, I've been up 6 hours (woke up at noon). So, once I get to a significant mark, like 15-20 hours, I'll check in. Lets see, 15 hours would be 3
AM, thats easy, I was up that late last night. 20 hours means going straight to 8 o clock...

i used to stay up for two+ days playing evercrack. i would hear the sword fights and monster sounds in my dead the entire next day. the only visual hallucinations i get when i go awhile without sleep is shadows moving at the corners of my vision.
