Default More Night-Time Ops

I find many similarities to myself, and the people who previously posted on NightTime Ops. For example, I myself have explored my neighborhood, and have some very interesting stories to tell if anyone would like to know, and much like infrared, I taught myself locksmithing a few years ago, and have advanced very much. In fact I've written a very good tutorial that I should post.

Some tools I use, are of course picks. Talk to a local locksmith and get registered. Then your legal to carry tools, and you can get automotive tools and such. Very nice. A flash light, gloves, abnd my favorite - a 2 foot length of chain with a master padlock on the end. Much quietter than would be expected, very painful.

Things I think need to be discussed:

1.) Security/Security Holes.

-Getting past cameras

-Getting past door/car alarms, etc.

2.) Good tools to use, and places to buy or make them.

3.) Techniques that acctually work effectively.

I can provide quite a bit of information about the above 3 points. I wish to speak and discuss such things as well with you knowledgable people.

I would discuss my personal stats, but prefer to be kept somewhat anonamous.

I'm male, relatively young.

Tell us some stories. As for tactics and equipment - add your two cents. I and many others have a good deal of knowledge when it comes to those matters, but any input is nice.

The cornfields right now are great. The corn is so tall, no chance of being spotted.

I do have a few questions...

1) How *do* you get by cameras/motion sensors?

2) I forget

To get by cameras, i always find the circuit breaker (located outside or underneath compound) and connect the video-out to a VCR and record a loop of the camera motions, then connect the VCR to the video-in, leaving it connected to the video-out as well. This generates a loop like you see in movies.

To get by motion sensors, get low and crawl slowly by them. Most motion sensors dont cover the ground to prevent being set off by a squirrel or something.

Actually, thats not how most motion detectors avoid being set off by animals. They are passive IR sensors which detect rapid change in heat energy generated by a person moving within its detection zone. Small animals and pets do not put off enough heat to active the sensor, while large animals, mainly humans, do. Other motion detection systems exist, but this is the most likely.

And as a side note, I have no idea how to defeat a passive IR system. You can only avoid it. I understand glass is supposed to block infrared, but I can't remember from my experience whether that worked or not. If anyone knows how to bypass a passive ir I'd be very interested.

here you go... how to build and IR jammer. This works very well, and its pretty small.

http://www.speedis.org/images/379698.gif (http://www.speedis.org/images/379698.gif)

Item List:

R1 100K 1/4W Resistor

R2 150K 1/4W Resistor

R3 10K 1/4W Resistor

R4 1K 1/4W Resistor

R5 See Below

C1 10nF Ceramic Disc Capacitor

C2 1uF Electrolytic Capacitor

D1 Same as D2

D2 Same as D3

D3 High Output IR LED

Q1 2N4403 PNP Transistor

Q2 2N4401 NPN Transistor

S1 Normally Open Momentary Push Botton

B1 4.5V Battery (Three "AA"'s In Series)

For item R5 a pot can be used, as you need to find the correct frequency(I find the best performance with a frequency of 10k ohms). Have fun.

Also.. you might run into the problem where you cant SEE the IR device. Ive got plans on how to build something that turns IR into sound, so you can detect it. Email me for them if you need them, Majestic.

Or you could do the primitive thing and just cut the wire to the thing, if you can find it. If you have a very quiet (and yet semi-powerful) BB/pellet gun, you can shoot it, although that will leave traces. I plan on getting a Talon SS suppressed pellet gun for very specialized ops where it will be (borderline) acceptable to break a camera. I'd hate to do it to a person just trying to keep people out of their home, but if it were a business complex or something, hell, I'd put a pellet right through the lens. lol. I bet that gun finds the most use shooting out lightbulbs (No Splinter Cell jokes - that actually is a serious tactic. You just have to consider the glass left, the noise, and perhaps the broken bulb piece left in the socket). Hmm, idea...bring a spare, burned-out bulb with me! Shoot out the active one, carefully remove it from the socket, screw back in the dead one you bring. Then the people will just think their bulb burned out (assuming you can kind of kick away the broken glass, and leave no prints on anything).

I'd try shining a laser pointer, but I lost the one I had a long time ago(seinfeld era). Seriously though, I'm still trying to figure out that ir jammer. Funkster, if you're listening, please explain how this works and how to get that all those parts, I'm not exactly an electrician here, hehe. VERY interesting though. I think its some sort of rigging for the ir led to overload the sensor....?

Story Time:

Of course this story is purely fictional, and if you do it, its not my fault.

Lets say there is a building where a man wishes to enter to retrieve a vital piece of intelligence, say a hard drive. And the guilding is a large complex with electronic locks on all doors. This is how he penetrated to achieve his goal.

I've heard most of you descrive yourself wearing military BDUs or such. I would recomend not doing this sort of thing in an urban setting. Ironically, the cammo uniform will make you more of a target than act as a visual deterant. Dark sweatshirt, long dark pants, and underneath, bright clothing so that if needed you can change your appearance completely in a matter of moments. Instead of bypassing the high security locks, this deviant fellow picked a pad lock to a gate on the side of the building, which had a lot of equipment in it. He climbed up the side of the equipment and jumped onto the roof of the building which was hopefully deserted. Through some investigative work he found no alarms on the windows, after all - who could climb to the roof? after picking hte lock on the window and entering, he proceeded stealthily moving in shadows and listening to his objective, picked the door to the specified room. Remember to wear gloves, because somebody would notice a hard drive missing, and you dont want to be blamed. Exfilled out the same way entered. Re locking doors as he goes. No one ever suspected what happened, the man whos computer it belonged to was too embarassed to complain.

Great story /\/\/\/\ man, but if you would have payed attention to the first Night Time Ops forum, you would have notcied that everyone wears navy blue bdu's when in an urban environment. I'm not flaming you or anything just giving you the heads up.

What he's saying about the BDU's is true. If your gonna be doing something in a urban/downtown setting, its best to wear something thats NOT even remotely military looking. You want to be able to disappear in a crowd the second its possible, and your not gonna do that in any form of BDU uniform. Who do you think the cops would be picking up on the report of an illegal entry into a info. sensitive area? Someone in blue BDU's and a pair of Magnum Stealth boots, or a guy in blue jeans and a white pocket shirt?

You're a military man - you know that if you get caught, you fucked up, and thusly deserve to be caught. I'm not saying you don't have a point, I'm just saying that the objective should be to not be caught or even spotted at all. That's my objective, anyway - otherwise I would just wear dark blue jeans and maybe a blue T-shirt (I always wear the boots though, op or not)

In urban settings your quickly identifiable in cammo though. In dark urban clothes, your "seen" but not identified. After all the definition of cammo is "...by making them appear to be part of the natural surroundings." A more extreme example of this is, what would look more suspicion on a highway, a rust volxwagon, or a panzer tank. You get my point.

Very doubtful. It would most likely just break the key pad, and i wouldn't put an alarm out of the question. I'm not sure how about the particular type of lock described in my story, but i know most are engineered to not be quite so simple to bypass.

My general rule of thumb is, "there is always another way in." So I would tend to avoid anything that could potentially screw you over.

One thing I just wanted to clarify, because I think some of you misunderstood me: When I'm in a true urban setting, and not in a suburb or out in the forest like I was during the big op I posted about, I'm not wearing camouflage, I'm just wearing dark. I think that Navy-blue BDU's make you look rather like a maintenance man, not necessarily a spook. I'm still careful, though. The best advice I've seen is to wear plain clothes underneath your main battle dress, if you do think there is a high risk of getting caught. The way to avoid getting caught is to pretend that if you do, you're dead. Of course you'll only be, at best, chased, and at worst arrested (or possibly dead if you're in someone's home), but if you treat it as more of a serious thing, you tend to take less chances. Of course that doesn't mean you can go taking people down from behind, the object is to avoid all contact whatsoever, but we knew that already

1) Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

2) If it can go wrong, it probably will.

Just some knowledge i tell myself before any ops.

Oh, and I have an op in planning thats gonna be insane. Here are some notes to rouse your intrest:

1) Over 60 miles of movement through woodland terrain (all on foot)

2) 4 targets

3) 3 days

Just wait till I post the gear list, its sick.

Some from mil-surp stores, some from sporting goods stores, some from online (places like www.blackhawkindustries.com (http://www.blackhawkindustries.com) and www.masupply.com (http://www.masupply.com) , that last one only for lockpicks). The thing is, be prepared to pay good money for some of your gear, although you can get your BDU's from www.cheaperthandirt.com (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com) . just pick your size and order away, they're pretty good (stick with the MOC brand though, the other ones are a little thin).

-Infrared

PS: DeerHunter, sounds like a damn good op. And I agree with "prepare for the worst, hope for the best" wholeheartedly, although I just choose not to wear clothes underneath my BDU's for basic ops. If I'm going somewhere major though, like the oft-mentioned business complex, I'll be preparing for the worst, considering that getting me caught will get me in very deep shit. Tell us more about this mega-op you're planning, and your gear list. If you need a sniper, spotter, gunny or all-around teammate, call me. Heh.

The gear list for my upcoming op is as follows:

(1) OD Green Ruck

(1) Set of civilian clothes

(1) Set *NEW* digital cammies (so friggin cozzy, and easy to move in)

(1) Pair Altama Ripple sole jungle boots

(5) Pair boot socks

(1) foot powder and mole skin

(1) set blue fleece running suit

(1) pair grey New Balance w/ tread taped

(1) Poncho/Poncho liner (ranger roll)

(1) Bottle water purification tabs

(4) MREs (the real military issue, very good)

(1) AN/PVS-7 Gen. III Night vision

(1) Ghillie Suit w/ facepaint

(1) Pair Bino's

(2) Canteens

(1) Stealth CamelBak (90 oz)

(1) Emerson Commander (ole faithful)

(1) 500,000v Taser

(1) Lineman's Phone

(1) mini mirror (for around corners)

(1) Laptop (sounds crazy, but I'll explain later, key tool in two targets)

(1) Set lock picks

(1) Toolkit (Wirecutters, splicers, glass cutter, etc.)

(1) 550 cord and black electrical tape

(1) Compass w/ map of area (screw GPSs, they break)

(1) GPS and cellphone, just in case op goes FUBAR

(1) Hygeine kit and wet wipes

(1) First aid kit

My back hurts just writing that down.

Target one is a college. The mission is to infiltrate the student union, and then infiltrate the wireless network in use

by the school. From that connection, for shits and giggles, I'm going to write the Dean of admissions an email thanking him for the opportunity to educate myself at his wonderfull school.

I'll post target two later, I have a killer of a hangover and it hurts to think.

As of now, I have a spotter but I might be cutting him out cause he thinks he doesn't have to train for shit like this. I am honestly thinking about going solo because most would just slow me down, I enjoy the practice of death marches . I do appreciate the offer though, mabey in the future we could plan something.

Why all the rural area gear? You don't need a "Ghillie Suit w/ face paint" for lurking in a school. With all the clothes I would expect some kind of fashion show…

I do allot of the on foot recon, and don't even carry a book bag. Makes it easy to run, and hurt knife wielding homeless characters.

(Of course when actually doing infiltration a bag is needed.)

Also I have learned to divide up certain equipment. IE every member doesn't need 5-foot bolt cutters.

Overall sounds pretty sweet. “Ha Ha” emails are the best type.

Its all part of the interactive fiction novel I am writing for my comp class.

Read back on my previous posts about the op. Its gonna be a 3 day (at least) op and I'll be moving 60+ miles. I'm not gonna have time to recon all of the targets until i get to the points, plus 2 of em are in a deeply wooded area. Probably could leave the ghillie suit at home, but I need to train with it, its been a while. The clothes are due to the three environments im going to be in. Woodland, urban infiltration, and crowded urban areas. Will be doing recon day and night so gotta be ready to mix with what ever.

Find out if he has an alarm system somehow, possibly go to borrow a cup of sugar? and casually go in the house with him. While in there, look at the locks on his doors, especially the back door.

Of course, try not to leave a trace (ie no forced entry, broken furniture etc.) and make sure that he is not in the house when you go in!

Once again, waaayyy too much gear DeerHunterUSMC...

Do you plan on breaking into the school and staying there for a couple of days? Because the gear you're carrying makes it sound like your going to a campus thats in the middle of a desert or jungle.

Plus, on WiFi networks, the servers may be shut down, and what if its encrypted?

Plus, what the hell are you going to do about the light emitted from the laptop?

Also, are you going to stay on the campus for 3 days? Because you have enough gear to. (Minus food)

...I'm confused as towards the point of your mission.

Me and my friend are planning my first night time op. The objective: Get inside the school. That's the objective because we want chemicals to build salutes. Or at least I do. Also, I would like a scale. My friend also wants one.

So I am learning on picking locks. I am going to order a set and also a gun. Does anyone know if this is easier then a set(is a gun easier?)? I will probably get them both when I get my money. Oh and do you have to order them, or will a pawn shop maby have them, maby a gun shop. I don't know about these so I'm asking you.

Also we don't know about the security systems. Do most schools have them? And what time do teachers and everyone leave? Would it be better to make it a daytime op?

And the main reason for this is because we like planning stuff and because we need scales. Well they keep the scales locked in a file cabinet I'm hoping to pick. And we get 10-15 minute breaks at school. I was thinking, would it be easier to do this during school? Or perhaps right after?

And for a school night time op, does anyone know any other gear besides lock pick set, lock pick gun, flashlights?

Im very new, but interested in nighttime ops as well. I dont actually have any equipment but Im looking into it.

First of all, might I suggest that if you are breaking into a school, do it during the day right after school gets out. When I was in highschool, after school the halls were pretty much empty, but it was very common for a few students and a few faculty to still be walking around. All youd have to do is find the desired room which holds your chemicals, make sure the hallway is clear, and quickly pick it before anyone sees you. Once you are in, just lock the door behind you and you are pretty much free to take whatever you want. Then when you are done, just walk out casually, and nobody will suspect anything. This may not be quite as exciting, but it eliminates the problems of alarms, motion detectors, and obviously alot of suspicion if anyone sees you going in or coming out late at night.

this information is for entertainment only. the writer is devoide of any responsibility, for your fuckups.

For those of you going into the school.

it would be a good idea to bring a set of your regular school clothes, as mentioned, and have them at easy access (if your gona wear camo and such).

Also i find a small set of screwdrivers, and somthing like a small crowbar. very handy for stuff like this because shit happens.

This is for entertainment purposes only.

I almost feel guilty about letting this one go, cause I know some idiot will use it for the wrong purposes. In which case, I will not be held responsible.

Most schools have motion detectors. The ones at my shcool are small white boxes about 3x3x4 inches. They have little redish orange lights that sometimes blink. Their is a very noticible white lens on the front about 2x2 inches. (You've probably noticed these things around your school if you have them) the best way to by pass them is to take small peice of white tape and put them over the lens during the school day. Try to find white tape that fits the lens so their arn't any seems. Also try to find tape that is the same shade and texture as the lens and no one will even notice.

-David.

People, please read ALL of my previous posts before commenting. Once more...

I will be moving over 60 miles, mostly thought wooded areas

It will take at least 3 days, mabey more.

There are 4 targets, not just one school.

I have "what if'ed" this into the ground, thus the reason for so much gear. I'm not gonna get caught in a situation where I wish I'd brough this or that. I train heavy so I can go heavy. Remember black hawk down? I know this doesnt compare, but same principle.

Infiltrating the school, there won't be a problem with light discipline and its at a time when the network will be up, mid-day. The union requires a student ID to enter, which is where the challenge comes in. The network should not be using encryption, being that its wireless so students can set up their laptop and have access to school resources, but I'm prepared for that also if there is encryption. From the woods where I'll be staging gear, once reaching the first target, its 1/2 mile to the bus stop which is run by the school, and then 2 more miles to get to the school.

Everyone keeps saying "too much gear, too much gear". What are you gonna do when you need all that gear and you CAN'T carry it because you never train for it? Your dead in the water. Twice a week I fill my ruck with 3 x 25 lb weights and hump out 6 to 12 miles just to train, so I know you'll never see me floating belly up.

Item List:

R1 100K 1/4W Resistor

R2 150K 1/4W Resistor

R3 10K 1/4W Resistor

R4 1K 1/4W Resistor

R5 See Below

C1 10nF Ceramic Disc Capacitor

C2 1uF Electrolytic Capacitor

D1 Same as D2

D2 Same as D3

D3 High Output IR LED

Q1 2N4403 PNP Transistor

Q2 2N4401 NPN Transistor

S1 Normally Open Momentary Push Botton

B1 4.5V Battery (Three "AA"'s In Series)

For item R5 a pot can be used, as you need to find the correct frequency(I find the best performance with a frequency of 10k ohms). Have fun.

your picture is screwed.

1 thing... if an ir detector detects rapid changes in heat (as ir) then wouldn't the jammer set the damn thing off?

Edit: On that note, wouldn't shining a lazer pointer at one set it off as well?

Good luck on your op.

What up this is Black As Night. Just joined totse and found this night ops post. I myself have a couple night ops that have turned out quite well. My most recent one was 3 days ago.

2 of my friends and i snuck out of my house at about 12:20 ran along the street to the next neighborhood hiding where ever we could. then we broke into the club house and its pool room. we had to bypass the doors because they were push button electric locks. We used a thin long screw driver and a knife to get it open. After investigating the club house my friend raided the frig and drank the beer that was inside.

after that we snuck around to the houses investigating everyone being quiet as can be. we dicided to go car shopping mainly beacuse these are new houses and the all have good alarm systems. we first came up to a Z71 and a corvette and both were locked. next after zig zagging through the street and bushes undetected we came to the next target. it was a minivan and was open to our suprise, we searched but nothing was of any use to us. so after about 10 minutes of working out way down to the street we came to a drive way and almost walked past it but one of my friends said "stop". we looked and a car do was open with the light on. we carefully made our way through bushes and trees making sure no one could hear or see us. we looked inside and found the mother load. a box of expensive liquor and a GPS system worth 700 bucks. of coarse we were gonna take it, and we did. we almost decided to take more, but couldn't carry more so we went back to my house and were totaly undiscovered the whole way. we got back at about 2:35 and drank some of the liquor - ahhh great op.

This is a fictional story- has never, will never, and is not going to happen.

the secret to not being seen at night, when somones looking just stay still and low, and your invisible, human being have shitty eye sight, and against dogs, ie k9 units pepper keeps them off your trail if they get a good wif of it, fences also make it hard for a dog to keep up with ur smell if your in a pursuit situation, i personally love taking valuable shit, i punked a canoe, lawn mower, bug zapper, wind chimes, bikes, i stole a 6 wheeler an drove it off a cliff, (i so wanted to keep it, but ther was no way...)i dunno i've had alotta fun with my potatoe gun, we tried using white gas for it, bad idea my friend caught on fire after it exploded into pieces, the park was lit up too, all the grass around him was burnt, i laughed tho especially when he was rolling on the ground heheeh...

It seems the old nighttime ops thread has been pushed down, so i'll post what I had there before...

Are there any message boards dedicated to Urban Exploring that have frequent postings? I have googled endless times searching for them, but all of the boards Ive found seem to get 1 new post every 3-4 days. That doesnt make for very good reading. So, if anyone knows any good sites, Id appreciate it if you could fill me in on it

Why don't we set up our own UE bbs? I have some good hosting on a friends server, and I could easily set up a php based board to talk about op's etc...

Anyways, I've got to run. I'm going to check out and have a recon at a little house thing that is used for cricket on the public field. I know it has a back door leading straight in, with pretty poor lock on. The back door is totally concealed by a new shed they put up, so I won't have to worry about being seen around there. I'm not sure what alarm systems, if any, they have, so i'll remember to check that out.

It turns out that the lock around the back is one of these locks...

http://www.disturbedyouth.org/evilduck/images/loreslock.JPG

Now, i'm not really sure what the fuck to do with this lock. I don't want to rip the thing off with a crow-bar, because obviously thats not the point. What do you guys think? I checked the other doors, and they all have locks like this, so the back is best way of getting in at the moment. I'm not sure about any alarms ; From what I can see it's just the false alarms used to deter bandits and whatnot. I'm just going to run like hell and hide if one goes off. I don't know what else you can do =\

Also, Bio-Hunter : Do you think the two guys found your traps and disabled them, or did they just not go off? What could they be doing over there? Don't get raped =/

Well, I have a question that I'm not yet clear about. Why the blue BDU instead of black? Wouldn't blue stand out more in the dark as a brighter color. I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, just asking really.

I'm not into this whole BDU thing yet. I suppose where I live, it's un-avoidable to cut through built up areas, so wearing BDU would only end up making you look like a criminal or bandit and so on. I generally wear some khaki combat pants/trousers and this large khaki coat with a light khaki hood on it. Shoes? Boots? Depending on the situation, either black soft shoes, or boots. I figure with this way I end up looking like some weird bloke walking around in the night (heh, there are alot of them around here).

I've heard dark red is the best color to wear? Any views on this? I guess it has the same effect as a red torch filter does.

Also remember when it's dark when someone looks at you, they don't really see you, just your silhouette against whatever kind of backdrop happens to behind you. If your walking past a red brick wall in black BDU gear, unless it really is pitch black it's pretty obvious. A human silhouette is far too easily recognised.

As for the people talking about stealing stuff from school... When I wanted chemicals, I just walked straight up to the rack whilst doing an experiment and while the teacher was occupied at the back, took all the chemicals, walked to the table and put them in my bag. I must have had at least 6-7 people staring pretty much right at me.Uh, Hypothetical and all that or course =] . Just be casual and take them like nothing. Nobody will realise I guarentee.

Although still go for the Nighttime Op...

It sounds dirty =P

Good point. Suburbia. A lot of two story houses with plenty of dogs. Fences are easy to get over but the issue is that everyone around here has those automatic porch lights. I doubt anyone has a camera. The neighbors across the street usually sit outside until about midnight so it would have to be after that. Not many cars go by so no worries there. My next door neighbor's a cop so I'm not risking that. Uhm my limitations? No lock pick skills heh. But hey I'd be happy just being able to get past the porch lights. o.O sad isn't it?

Blue BDU's actually match the color of night more than black, believe it or not. Remember, we're talking dark navy blue here, not sky-blue or anything. Black is ok, but should someone see your movement out of the corner of their eye, you will actually stick out fairly good in black, because it gives you an outline. Night isn't actually BLACK, you see, it's more of an extremely deep blue color. I know that's a bit abstract. The dark-blue BDU's match it much better, blend in well, and also look less (only a tiny bit less) suspicious if you get caught in them. If you're wearing the BDU pants/coat combination, you look something like a maintenance worker, whereas in black, you look like a damn spook (which is what you are)

But, solid black "stands out" at night among the true shadows cast by moon and torchlight. Therefore, most

Ninja schools used brown, gray, or red uniforms.

Red had the advantage of being black at night, with no sunlight to reflect the crimson

color; a fact known only to those who studied light and shadow as a Neolithic science. When it

came into the firelight, however, the color returned. And psychologically intimidated the enemy

through the association of red with the fear of blood.
