Multiple accounts, one video store
This is a bit of a story that leads into a question. Several weeks ago I checked out the new video game and DVD store that had opened up down town. I looked at their price list and it said four DVD's for $10 ($5US).
So I go down the shelf and end up with Hannibal, Bruce Lee: Chinese Connection and then on the third of four shelves I picked up Uprising and Bang Bang You're Dead. The owner was at the counter watching the huge TV he had set up at his desk. I handed him the four DVD's and he asked for the $10 and I was on my way.
I return a week later with my DVD's I got for the $10 for four a week deal and hand 'em to him. I go and hire out a video game and return. He logs into his shitty database PC and says that two of the DVD's were overdue. I asked how long, and he said six days. "Why?" "Two of them were overnighters, mate." "How much money do I owe?" "$36 ($18 US)" "Can I pay you next week? I've only got $10 on me."
That's when he started demanding the money, and I put the game down and told him I'd come back with $36 ($18 US) the next day. Obviously I never went back. But I'm at a loss, because they're the biggest game rentals in this shitty little town.
I've come to the conclusion that it wasn't my fault. Get this; Four DVD's for one week - $10 ($5 US). One overnight DVD for one night - something like $6 ($3 US).
Was "two weekly DVD's and two overnight DVD's plus $36 ($18 US) when returned for $10 ($5 US)" listed as one of their mind blowing deals? Didn't think so. They should have never accepted the $10 ($5 US) for two weeklys and two overnighters. This is either a little trick they've been doing from day one, or a mistake on their behalf.
There were no overnight stickers on the DVD cases or overnighters signs on the shelf, either. All you could identify the shelf by was looking at the titles - but "Bang Bang You're Dead" and "The Uprising"; has anyone here even heard of those fucking films?!
Should I;
a. Just give them the fucking $36 ($18 US)?
b. Stop saying ($18 US), we get the point?
c. Try and set up a second account somehow under a different name - or some how get around this fuck up.
The owner acts as if he owns Blockbuster, but they're nothing big. The name of the store is "Jacks Games" and they use Windows 98 as their operating system for accounts. I think it's possible to fraud them, to get around this crap.
Maybe I could try taking them to court? Thought, idea and comment feedback welcome.

Re: Multiple accounts, one video store
yes, tell them they mislead you by not telling you they were "overnighters, mate"
so say "it's your fault you never told me they were overnighters, if you don't stop harassing me for the money, i'll take your jack ass to court"

...
I cannot honestly believe how stupid you are. If they were due the next day, it would have said something from the area that you picked them up.
You were wrong. Piss off.

Re: Multiple accounts, one video store
Um, even if they were overnighters logical, the person working the counter should of noted that he couldn't do the $10/4 dvds/week thing.
Your best bets are:
1. Talk with the manager, and tell the asshole that you demand to have those fees taken off as it was their duty to notify you of overnighters.
2. Immediately take him to court, and press charges for misleading information. You won't make much, but it should be enough to pay off the lawyer and have a few extra hundreds lying around.
3. Ignore the fines.
4. Call up your local police, get them to come with you to the store, explain to them what happened etc. Chances are with a cop there, the manager will just erase the fines and maybe give you something free.
5. Take a 9mm and cap his ass! Errr, no, wait, thats illegal. Don't be suprised if some kid posts that though.

Take them to court. You can't lose against a local town video store who can't even afford a proper operating system.
