most of the stuff they say about calcium carbide in the bad ideas section isn't true. about the best thing you can do with it is put some in a 2 liter bottle with water , screw the cap on, and light a candle next to it. it bursts the bottle with a bang, then the acetylene gas catches fire on the candle resulting in a pretty decent fireball. the only other thing i can think of doing is putting it in a bottle with water then quickly putting a balloon on top, when the balloon is full, tie it and find away to catch it on fire (paper towels wrapped around it maybe).

It's not a question for Bad Ideas. New commers to the hobby have their place in Backyard Ballistics too. Most likely, his thread will be locked.
Besides, we have our fair share of "fux0r your school"-ers to deal with.
