Default Result of my complaint letter scam

For my website forums I wrote a complaint letter to the Heineken company, you can read the preparations and response on my website:

http://www.undesirable.info/viewtopic.php?t=122

Below you can find my posts to it:

I have just finished my complaint letter, it is directed at Heineken, below you can read my letter. Offcourse I wrote the original one in Dutch for obvious reasons:

quote:

From: Your name

Your street

Your town

To: Heineken complaint department

Dear Sir/Madam,

When on friday afternoon August the 1st, I was in my garden about to relax with a Heineken beer but after a few nips of my beer I felt something "weird" in my mouth, luckily I hadn't swallowed it yet so I spit it out. To my horror I saw it was a piece of glass!

This piece of glass didn't belong to the bottle I was drinking from since that bottle was completly intact. I have a photo of the piece of glass as proof:

http://www.undesirable.info/complaintletter/glassplinter.jpg (http://www.undesirable.info/complaintletter/glassplinter.jpg)

I have also taken a picture of the back of the beer bottle containing information that could be usefull to you:

http://www.undesirable.info/complaintletter/Achterkantfles.jpg (http://www.undesirable.info/complaintletter/Achterkantfles.jpg)

I hope this information helps you solve this problem, also I would like compenstation for what has happend, becouse if I had swallowed the glass I would be likely to have ended up in the hospital. I am not sure if I should report this to Consumers Alliance, I look forward to your reply.

With kind regards,

Your name

That was my letter, below you can see a photo of my letter, a floppy disk containing the photo's, the backside of the bottle (paper) and last but not least: the piece of glass I used.

http://www.undesirable.info/complaintletter/complaintletter.jpg (http://www.undesirable.info/complaintletter/complaintletter.jpg)

I have mailed it today, but I don't know when to expect a answer back from them. But when I get an answer, and hopefully a bunch of goodies, I will let you know.

Now the results of it!

Whoohoo! I got a box from the Heineken company today

I have taken 3 photo's of the stuff they send me, but ill list them first:

1: A letter in which they apolagize

2: A little box with 12 Heineken glasses.

3: A weir bottle opener (the green thing on the photo)

4: And if I supply my bank acount number they will transfer 10.79 Euro's to my acount (the price of a crate of Heineken)

Picture1:

http://www.undesirable.info/complaintscam/box.jpg (http://www.undesirable.info/complaintscam/box.jpg)

This is the box they sended me, I already opend it before I took the picture.

Picture2:

http://www.undesirable.info/complaintscam/boxopen.jpg (http://www.undesirable.info/complaintscam/boxopen.jpg)

Here you see the stuff that was in the big box.

Picture3:

http://www.undesirable.info/complaintscam/stuff.jpg (http://www.undesirable.info/complaintscam/stuff.jpg)

Here you see all the goodies , on the left you see the letter I received, in the middle you see the box with the Heineken glasses (there are also 2 glasses in front of it), and on the right you see the weird bottle opener.

Now here under I will translate the letter I received from them:

quote:

Dear Sir,

You wrote us a letter about a bottle of Heineken beer, in which you found also a piece of glasss instead of beer. We offer you our sincere apolagies.

This is offcourse not the way it is ment to be.

Every bottle when it is returned to the brewery is thoroughly cleaned. They go several times through a washing machine in which they are cleaned with hot soda water. After this process the bottles are checked with special equipment to see if nothing is left behind.

That after all these preventive measures your bottle got through this is offcourse not acceptable.

We take your letter very seriously and you can be assured that we have taken the necasery precoutions to make sure that this never happens again.

After all Heineken is known for its quality, and there musn't be any doubt about that.

We apreciate that you have taken the effort to inform us of this problem and for this we give you a gift. (the stuff listed above, Dutch)

And we also offer you a refund of 10.79 Euro if you supply us with your bank acount number.

Greetings,

Heineken brewery's

This worked quitte well, I only expected they would send some gifts, but they also offer to transfer 10.79 euro's to me.

I like it

10.79 Euro is about 12 Us Dollars.

Hope you people like it

My teacher did something like that and got a free cell phone and a year's worth of cell phone usage.

Obviously he didn't use the 'piece of glass' trick. I think it was something along the lines of his phone breaking.

If you would have read my post you would have seen that I am from Holland, and dutch company's send letters to their customers in dutch, not in english!

So I had to translate it, and since english isn't my native language I made some spelling errors.

But my grammar is still alot better then some of the english and american persons on this site.

[Edited] Fixed some spelling errors in my post, LOL.

I've been on a vacation for four days... Just catching up with totse.

I did indeed try this. I wrote a very formal letter to snapple in semi-block format talking about how I found a large, discolored chunk of brown matter at the bottom of my snapple. I tri-folded it, stuck in in the envelope, and sent it on its way. It's been approximately a month now, and I still have no reply.

I *did* infact find a discolored chunk in my snapple. It just so happens that it occured around the same time I saw another post here on this scam.

Don't try this with snapple. They don't give half a rat's shit about their customers.

Snapple is a US company all you have to do is tell them you already sent them a letter a month ago and didn't get a reply and that you have reported them to the better business beurou(sp) and also let them know you are planning on filling charges unless your demands are fullfilled. then list your demands

It sounds dumb to sue a company for something like that but this is america you can get atleast a million for it especially if you claim you drank some of it

I think Im gona try doing this scam what company should I do it to?

oh and if your gona say there was a piece of glass in it you have to make sure the glass is small enough to fit through the opening in the bottle cause if it wont fit through that would suck

Dont 'demand' compensation, just let them know how shocked you are that their excellent product (your favourite) disappointed you.

Don't get greedy, if you get more than your postage back you are in profit.

Never threaten them with Lawyers, theirs will be better. The 'compensation culture' gig could take you years.

Foreign bodies in food is good, just don't get carried away. You want the person who opens the letter to deal with it, if it goes up the food chain you'll get nothing.

It's only Egg Money, but it keeps you going.

eRJee, excellent. The cliche is 'no such thing as a free lunch', you have a buffet . Neatly done too. (I don't speak any Dutch, so I can't really judge the translation; it sounded like exemplar material to me).

Edit. Lettuce is delivered to restaurants in wooden boxes with copper staples; 'find' a staple in your salad. Pieces of plastic are even better. The 'Dry Cleaner' is more reliable.

Actually, I've heard several reports of takes between $100-$200, and one report of something around $900 (which may be bullshit, of course).

If you play your cards right you can really get a nice take.

Kakkaraun, thats what I meant. It's a living but not a good one. Getting (whatever, I don't work in dollars) a cheque is good, better than working for a living (it is a form of work after all), working as a labourer earns me more. Scams are addictive, however little they are worth.

Long Firms still seem the easiest way to get proper money. (I'm far too lazy to bother).

I know what you mean.

I don't really do this kind of stuff to make an income for myself, but rather just to have fun with it. Doing stuff you're not supposed to always supplies me with entertainment. A friend of mine said "Why would you do that? Writing the letter and mailing it off is too much effort"... Every part of the process passes the time pretty well, and the anticipation of a reply from the company is also nice.

Heh. I guess you could call me an illegal hobbyist. I don't really go out robbing banks, but rather do low-scale stuff that couldn't get you into much trouble. That's why this complaint letter idea appealed to me.

Yes, I will be writing another complaint letter to snapple. It will be a little more aggressive than my last one.

quote:

Dont 'demand' compensation, just let them know how shocked you are that their excellent product (your favourite) disappointed you.

Exactly. This seems like it would be a fundamental flaw in many people's complaint letters. If you sound like an asshole that makes a claim and demands 800 dollars for it, you're either a) (very very rarely) going to get 800 dollars, b) You won't get a reply, c) They'll investigate it and screw you over.

If you tell them you've been a loyal customer for years, and that (for example) Snapple has been your favorite beverage brand for a long time, you're likely to get more sympathy out of them. On the other hand, you also have to be straightforward.

I'm just going to quit rambling aimlessly now.
