In a hypothetical situation

I was at say...Walmart. I was planning on stealing say...a lighter (fuckin expensive bitches there). I spent some time "browsing" and then this plainclothes comes up next to me and starts pulling random items off the shelf reading them as though they were a customer(items that had no connection whatsoever). The idiot had a tag on his shirt for god's sake. If you're gonna try to catch someone, at least not be such a dumbass about it

A plainclothe will not have a name tag. That makes him a normal loss prevention agent.

Secondly, you should have just walked out anyway. They really cant do much about you unless they are an actual off duty cop working loss prevention.

Oh, I refer to anybody in plainclothes who works for the store as plainclothes officer...

But, even if he was just openly being loss prevention, why the hell would he be so obvious as to stand by me and just look at random items as though she were a normal shopper.

It did deter me from taking the lighter, so he succeeded, but his actions were idiotic nonetheless. If the store had less cameras (cameras were EVERYWHERE) I would have ripped it off anyways.

I found that kind of funny.

I saw i guy shoplifting yesterday in a grocery store, he was puting chocolate bars into his pocket right in front of me and another guy that looked very much like a plain clothes security guy(he wasn't carrying grocerys, just picking them up, looking, and moving on - very obvious). Anyway i think this shoplifter knew he was being watched so he bought some stuff too. After he left the store there was a nother security guy in uniform and he went up to him and was like "How's it goin' mate?" but the shoplifter dude just kept walking and was followed until he left the shopping centre. I'm not sure why they didn't apprehend him though. Maybe they were confused by the fact that he bought stuff. I really pitied that guy.

So here's a few tips- don't dress like a shoplifter, and if you're being watched then get ridd of the stuff you stole and leave, and keep an eye out for security.

Actually, it was a Walgreens. I might as well just use its real name since this is all hypothetical (paranoid bastard I am). And it did have tons of cameras. Every store is different, and I've seen Walgreens and Walmarts alike with 0 cameras. On the other extreme, I've seen both stores with cameras on every end of every aisle. No exageration.

Yeah maybe you thought he was stupid with the tag and all, but, the question is; did you get your 5 finger discount lighter? Do you feel like they are on to you when you went in again (if you did)? Seems a rather effective psychological ploy to me.
