Free Hardware From Microsoft
I was just wondering if anyone else has tried the method of calling with the p/n code that's on the front page at the moment. Sounds like a really good idea and was wondering if anyone else has tried it and seen the results.

Re: Free Hardware From Microsoft
I've scammed microsoft for 4 intellimouse wireless mice, 1 intellimouse explorer and 1 sidewinder 2 gamepad. Getting the PN and the product ID numbers were the hardest, look around for microsoft devices at a friends house, at school, etc. and write down the numbers (they should be un the underside). It was very easy to do with alittle social enigeering. Most of the time is spent on the phone with a troubleshooting "expert" who makes you read off you system setting and the product/PN numbers, most times you are on for 20+ minutes trying to convince him/her that your device is fucked up. Do your homework and have the PN and product ID numbers ready. Know the name of the software that is used to control the device, the accessories that come with the device, etc. The line I used the most was "my friend has the same device and his works fine on my machine." Don't get greedy, don't have microsoft send all the devices to the same address, don't ever use the same PN or product numbers if used before, and a month or so between reporting bad devices.

What numbers do they ask for? Just the P/N?
and what do they look like? (eg: 5175-1212 or LZA21167013)

Re: Free Hardware From Microsoft
When I phoned in and claimed my wireless optical keyboard/mouse combo was not working they asked for the Product number first off of the mouse and then later they requested the Product number off of my keyboard. Lastly, they requested the smaller code that begins with an x. Anyway, have any of you tried this with just a wireless keyboard, or JUST a wireless mouse. I am curious as to if they would ask you for the Product number off of the tranciever / reciever as well.
Cheers.

YES! I tried phoning those fuckers 30 times. (im serious) They kept telling me to mail them a photocopy of the mouse. I even got into an arguement with one. But now I'm getting my Wireless Optical Mouse Blue in 2-14 business days. Now we enter the next phase: an X-Box.

Re: Free Hardware From Microsoft
I just heard about this the other day and since that i've done it twice and it WORKS! i've gotten 2 mice this way and both times they didn't even ask for a P/N! All they asked for was the type of mouse. Oh and yes of course i tried it with the X-box. It didn't work. I argued with the lady for a long time but she kept telling me i'd have to ship it in for a repair. Its because its so complicated and expensive, unlike a mouse or joystick.
oh p.s.- I ordered a intelimouse 1.1A and they delivered an intelimouse optical 5 button mouse instead!

I would also like to say... if you like computer books, this same strategy works with Sams publishing and Que. Just tell them your book didn't come with a CD. Did it before. All they say is "donate your old book to your local library." HA. What old book?

you could say that your x-box blew up and singed your carpet after an extended period of play. give them a self analysis "i think it might have been a capacitor or a transistor judging by the sound. Your lucky i won't sue because a metal chunk hit my son in the leg and it's pretty deep." With the threat to sue i bet they will gladly ship you a new one

Because most stores tell you to contact the company, if the product is still under warranty.

Just say you signed up for some free promotional offer on the internet to get a free [WHATEVER]. Or say there was a recall on a certain product [whatever you got free from microsoft] so you got a new one sent to you free of charge to replace the old one.
Or just inform your mother that you're allowed to recieve all the damn mail you want and its none of her business. Though I doubt that'd go over well!

Um they aren't gonna give you a free xbox anyway... they are going to tell you to ship yours to them and they will repair it and ship it back... they lose money on every x-box the sell... you think they are just gonna say "oh here, you say yours is broke, oh just throw it out and we'll send you another 200$ console" um no, sorry... dream on.

They aren't gonna caugh up games and consoles... it is easy for them to send out a piece of hardware that cost them a few bucks to make... microsoft loses on EVERY console it sells just to keep them a fair price... and they aren't just going to send games out because they'll want you to send the defective disk back first because so many people went in to developing the game and the initial cost of creating it cost them a heft amount... where to make a new mouse they just slap some cheaper more durable plastic pieces someone designed in 6 seconds into an existing mouse and change the color a little.

Re: Free Hardware From Microsoft
This seems a great idea, and I'm tempted, so lets look at the kind of problems some of us may have.
Those of you who have already done the scam, could you please let us know what the person on the other end says/asks for? For example does he/she only ask for the P/N? Does he/she ask for details on the problem? and another thing: is the phone call premium rate, and if so, how much does it cost per min?
Once the phone call is over, is that it? No more phone calls? Does Microsoft start sending you junk through the post to the address you supplied for the replacement?
Does a note come with the replacement, for example apologising for the inconveniance the defect hardware may have caused (hehe)?
And finally, for those people who need to come up with an excuse to their parents for recieving packages, can we come up with a cover story?
I guess mine would be that a smallish company/website set up a sweepstakes program for people who subscribe to their newsletter, but that you realised how few people visited the site, and that you would be in with a great chance of winning if you signed up, so you did.
And one last thing, a tip from me, think before you try anything. Write down what you're going to say, and check your story over and over. If the person on the other end finds a leak in your story, basically you're f*cked.
Happy scamming guys!

I did this (By accident) with an APC Back-UPS 650VA.. There was a mass recall of the product, and I was bored, so I googled for the product and found one with a S/N in the picture. Put that down, and it told me it was accepted. Then about 3 weeks later I got a package and inside was the Power Unit and a Note saying to either discard my old one, or send it back. Free 180$ Power Unit
Of Course, this is all a hypothetical Lie.. I would never do anything like this! Nor Suggest it! >

EDIT: I just thought that if you needed the P/N for something you could go to a store and look at one on display, they may hide the numbers or whatever.

its an 800 number (toll free for usa and canada) but use sprint relay and make them feel sorry for you.. and also ask for a supervisor,, they will be more likely to give you what you want with out a photo copy.. do not use s/n use the complete kit! the product number.. and i out right told my mom.. my mom and i have an amazing realstionship.. i can tell her anything.. plus she is dieing.. so i have no need to lie to her..
