Video game scam.
First off, im not sure if this is already a well known scam. I did this after last christmas, and am just realizing its scam-ness. Anyway, hope at least someone likes this.
First off, get a game. Either buy it or do this next time you get one as a gift. Try to get the receipt, as it makes this easier. It may not work if you steal the game, because when they scan it it might reveal that it isnt paid for.
Next, open the box so you dont damage it. Take the cd key out (you can figure out how). Then burn a copy of the game for yourself. Then put the cd's and such back in. If it has any free give-aways, go ahead and take those too. then put the essentials (excluding cd key) back in (remember to put the original cd's in. They will probably be unhappy if you try to return a bootleg ).
Next, take the game back to the store and return it. If they ask why, tell them it diddnt include the cd key. They will likely give you cash back, but if not you will have to settle for store credit, most likely in the form of a gift card.
Now you have an option. You can either take that cash and spend it on whatever you want (within price range ) or you could buy another game with it and repeat the process. If you repeat, you should definately go when another person is working at the returns counter. I would wait a while between returns though, they will be less suspicous.
Or you could just steal a CD key and download a copy of the game, but thats a hassle.
Anyway, i hope i have helped someone get a few free games.

Re: Video game scam.
Yes this has been discussed before; however, there are two significant problems with this idea.
1) Many new games have, at least somewhat sophisticated, security schemes (SafeDisc, LaserLok, DiscGuard, SecuROM, SafeCast, ProtectCD, and many more) Thus, one would need specific programs/know-how to bypass the security measures in order to copy the CD
2) Most stores only accept opened CDs/games/software/DVDs for an exchange, not a refund (yes, even with a receipt). Contact your particular store, or glance through a short compendium of return policies here: http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum7/HTML/004766.html

Ahh, i left out one step that could bypass this problem. If they wont let you get cash or a differant game, you could just get the same game, then take it back either some other time, or take it to another location. That way you will have an unopened copy, so they most likely wont give you a problem.
And about the copy protection, personally, i have never had a problem with it. I just copy it to my hard drive and burn it from there, but for some reason, other people say it doesnt work. And no, i am not bullshitting you. But if you cant do this, use alcohol %120, or some people have also reccomended Clone CD.

In order to play burned PS2 games you need a mod chip.

Yes, most of us know that, but thanks anyway .
I was focusing this scam more towards computer games, as console games often need extra hardware and such.

My 2 Cents:
LOL, no, the copy they give you is opened by them, so that you can't just take it to another wal-mart or whatever and exchange it for cash after you played the game. I have tried this scam, and it doesn't work.
I "aquired" a $60 computer game from wal-mart by taking out the magnetic strips and walking out the store with it. a few days later during a different shift, I took it back, with a receipt(my step dad bought it and I happened to find the receipt), and because of federal laws, they can NOT give cash back for an opened game, DVD, movie, ETC. They open the exchange product and then give it to you.

Re: Video game scam.
One question for you guys, what do you mean by "KEY"?, is it a number/letters, or what is it?

IN the case that its on the booklet, take the booklet. ive never seen it printed on the actual case, and i doubt it ever has been, so dont worry about that. ive seen it on the back of the case on a sticker, in that case, just peel off the sticker. If its on a slip of paper thats behind the cd, take that part of the cd case off and take the slip out then put the part back in.

You could say that the game didn't work on your "Macintosh" and that it only runs on PC's. Most games are like this anyways.

Re: Video game scam.
1) VIDEO GAMES, don't have CD keys.
2) VIDEO GAMES, can't be burned and played without mod chips (at least for most next gen systems)
3) computer games, aren't accepted after they are opened.
So, assuming they fall for the "no CDkey" bull, then this might work with computer games.
A better, universal scam is to just buy the game, and carefully open the package. Remove the disc, and replace with a blank disc. Put everything back and sealed so it looks brand new. Return to the store. If you can replace the game perfectly, you've just made 50 bucks and you ahve the original game, ready to play. (you must be sure that there are no sure signs of tampering, some computer game boxes have stickers that tear easily or rip off part of the box paper)
