I want to use this topic to put together a list of stores that have security, and which ones don't. I also want to assess the stores that do have security, and the nature and caliber of their systems. I know everything there is to know about Target security. I know people in Walmart and Kmart, and they are similar, though more bold. Walmart and Kmart will chase your ass down if you run (Target won't). I only want accurate information on this. Either you know someone in security, and they personally have given you information, or you work security yourself. Also, if you work at a store, and are familiar with security at your store, that information is relevant as well. Please avoid giving information that came from a guy, that new a guy etc etc. The following is a link to the article about Target. As much information as possible will be great! http://www.totse.com/en/bad_ideas/ir...om170580.html. For general scams or shoplifting tips, see http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum7/HTML/003339.html. Please only use this topic for detailed information on store security. A great way to find out IF a store has security in the first place is to call the store and explain that you have several years experience in security, and ask if they have positions available. The morons will usually just say, "Uh, sorry, we don't have a security department". I want to know as many stores as possible that do not have security. If a major chain does not have security, that means there is a small chance of being apprehended because store personnel are not trained to apprehend, only to deter.

Here is a bit I wrote on security at CompUSA:
The one near me has an observation room that has a window mirrored sort of gold so it was very obvious the first time I went in there. It's located right next to the exit. You can see in there though, there usually is no one inside it when I visit. I think that your best bet may be just ripping off alarm devices pocketing it under your arm. They can't chase after you if the alarm goes off so in case it does, just run off. Usually when I think of CompUSA, BestBuy, and the like, the most common shoplifting suggestion that comes to mind would be to line a jacket with foil and stick it under your arm if you don't want to fumble with removing security devices.
Most of the store is open but you could find a quieter area near less popular items. If you were planning to remove security devices, i suggest you find a spot like this to do your work before you take the item so that you can get to it quickly. One thing I have noticed is that some workers will continue to monitor your movement if you've picked something up and then you put it back on the shelf and they don't see it.
Spotting cameras shouldn't be too hard on your own just scope the place before hand to find them as well as your "work space" and the location of your target.

Also, Office Depot has no video surveilance in any of their stores. I will look into more information about their security soon.

I have a friend at future shop and I asked him about the security there and he said that there are cameras covering the whole store, but there is no one there watching them, they just record everything and only view it or turn it over to the cops if something was witnessed by a customer and reported or if an employee who cared seen something.

Re: Store Security
Bumping this up since it seems to have been forgotten.
I'm also interested in places like Albertsons, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Borders, Home Depot, Lowes and Costco.
Also, anyone have any ideas about Mall security and parking lot security? Some places around me have parking lot cameras and guys in trucks driving around or on bikes.
Just out of curiousity of course...

Re: Store Security
Wal-Mart security is fun. I've had two relatives working there. The story I got about my local Wal-Mart supercenter was that most of the black bubbles are decoys (as if everyone here /didn't/ already know that ), and that the security room has two guys, sometimes just one, watching (IIRC) four monitors that flipped back and forth to different cameras.
Waldenbooks, at least every one that I've been to, has shitty security...no cameras, no security staff, and no anti-theft devices.
I have a friend that works at Barnes and Noble...next time I see him I'll ask him about their security.

Re: Store Security
Most Barnes&Noble stores that I've seen have weak security. Most of the bubbles are empty, so as long as you can evade the people working there, you'll be fine.
Basically all you need is a lot of deep pockets. Just walk around the store picking things out, and every so often stealthily put them in your pockets. I...er, a freind of mine walked out with a couple hundred bucks worth of stuff and made a fortune at one of the smaller used book stores.
The only place you have to worry about is their "electronics department", since the cameras there are actually on. All you need is a good, sharp razor and you'll be fine.

mall security can be a little harder to bypass cuzz where i live they actually have security guards walking the mall also they have jeeps patrolling the parking lots. but it is possible to get by that all. where i live they dont have security for the stores maybe one camra or too in the electronic stores but in anything else they rely on the security guards and the jeeps. and a lot of the time mall stores have huge blind spots. so if u cna pocket the thing in the store and u get out of the store more then likely ull be home free. cuzz if the mall security didnt spot u or the ppl working there didnt spot u then no one will know. but remember watch out for ppl that will tell on u!!
o ya and on borders they have camras and shit bu tin the aisels of books a lot of times they dont but i think u have to remove the barcode of the books and magazines so the alrams wont go off no for cds i dunno im still workin on that. hope this helps

Re: Store Security
The BEST way to find out if a store has security is to call the store and explain that you have security management experience, and would like to know if they have a position available. Make sure you talk with the mgr. They are morons, and will explain whether or not they have security to a complete stranger.

Re: Store Security
Barnes and Nobles does not have in-store security. When dealing with books, just flip through the book to make sure they don't have a sensor inside. They use tags that look like barcodes, you can tell it's a tag though because the UPC #'s are sequential, like, '78787878'. Piece of cake.
