For most effective physical torture, I'd suggest a variation on the pit and the pendulum theme. The twist is, just have a large weighted stone block for the pendulum, arranged on some sort of apparatus so that it moves horizontally all the way across the room, and every time it reaches the wall, have it lower itself very slightly. Now strap your victim to the bottom of the pendulum. Make sure this is done over a rough concrete floor. The victim gets a nice amount of time to contemplate their imminent demise, and hopefully go fairly insane. Eventually, the pendulum will reach the bottom of the room and the victim will suffer an excruciatingly painful death by a series of abrasions.

As for emotional torture, that has to be a little more personalised. The easiest way to go is to have them do something horrible to the person/thing they care about most (i.e. raping and killing their mother, etc etc.)

Another goodie is forcing them into an uncomfortable position, then tell them "I am going to kill you." Leave them in that position for a while, and then begin to put an empty gun to their forehead, and slowly click it. Do this over and over again, at random intervals, varying the speed at which you click the gun. Don't forget to constantly remind him that you're going to kill him. Pretty soon, he'll go insane. At that point, shoot him.

Disclaimer

This is only a description of an instance I have concocted using my creativity. It refers to no particular person, as I do not believe ANYONE should be subject to this method of death. This is for hypothetical purposes only and has absolutely nothing to do with anyone including or excluding myself, and it should not be taken as any form of suggestion, threat, warning, or blackmail. It assumes the party performing it has unlimited resources.

Guidelines

OK, before you can read my entry, we need to go over a few basic scientific guidelines:

• Pain is caused by any type of pain nerve cell becoming activated through an electrical impulse sent by the brain. There is no degree of pain on the individual cells; only on and off basically. The more cells are activated, the more pain you feel, and the types of pain are different depending on the type of nerve cell.

• You can die of pain. When you feel too much pain, your brain makes you pass out. If the pain is still too exceedingly great, then, your subconscious mind ceases all function to alleviate this pain, but in doing so, you die. The reason that this occurs is yet unknown.

• Truth serums temporarily strip a person of much of their free will without causing any brain damage to your medulla, which is what regulates things such as body functions and pain. It is also capable of mixing with other treatments without losing its own effect or causing the other treatments to lose theirs.

• A mental stimulant is any one of a myriad of different drugs, all meant to do one thing - maximize activity in portions of the brain that are in use at the moment they are taken. This includes stimulation of the medulla, which makes a person fully aware of things they are experiencing instead of the dreamlike state a truth serum causes.

Preliminary Measures

Use a penetrative agent on a person's skin to detach layer attachments on all levels of the body. Carefully extract every nerve in a person's body (this could take several hours, perhaps even days). Connect the tips of each of the nerves to fiber optic cables connected to a regulatable power source, again, a long, grueling process. Inject a truth serum to prevent their brain from shutting of neurological functions. Inject a mental stimulant to make them fully aware of the pain they will experience, and to prevent them from passing out.

Procedure

Set the power source to a low-level current and turn it on. This will cause electricity to run through a person's nerves, simulating an impulse from the brain and causing all pain nerves to become activated. The result? MAXIMUM POSSIBLE PAIN. After approximately two hours, the current will overload the nerves, basically frying the nervous system and causing the person to die, as the brain is a part of this system
