Default I really don't want to be like my family...

Before i make this post let it be known that i love my family and appreciate what they've done for me. This is about their position in life, not their treatment of me.

I come from a family full of insecurities and mediocrity.

My dad hasn't had a friend since he left school. He's moved from low paying job to low paying job and now owns his own small business that keeps us just below the poverty line.

My mum is in the same boat, except she recently quit her job as a secretary to become secretary to my dads business. She suffers from depression.

My brother has never had a girlfriend, and has very bad issues with his looks. Hes failing his GCSEs badly.

My mum makes derogatary comments and jokes about me and my brother all the time, i believe to try and make herself feel better.

Two of my cousins left school at 16. One is unemployed, and the other has a small job as an IT consultant. The third one has a sub par degree in history, and can't find a job.

It seems wherever i turn my family sucks at life. And i am so scared of turning out like them, having no friends, a crap job, never experiencing anything or achieving my ambitions.

Ehh i have no idea why i'm posting this. A rant i guess.

Default Re: I really don't want to be like my family...

As we move through life, we as humans move in the directions of our most dominate thoughts.

You are wise to identify with your families shortcomings, especially their negative thoughts. They probably learned they same thing from their parents. It is up to you to break the cycle that CAN be passed on from generation to generation.

You DON'T have to be like them and "follow in their footstops."

It is up to you and you all by yourself to break the cycle. Keep you chin up, remain positive and be who ever you want to be and become what ever YOU want to become.
