candida?
Have any of you ever dealt with a candida infection? I don't mean a regular vaginal yeast infection. I'm talking in the mouth and intestines.
There are a lot of products that say they kill the yeast off. Anyone ever tried any?
I'm posting in S&A because I guess it affects sex and is transferred in relationships. Feel free to move it!

I live about fourty minutes from Canada..this was a very real threat! I had already started reboarding up my windows and bottling water (no need to load the gun or stock the MREs since those were from my last panick attack over a zombie false alarm).

The OP did indeed sound strangely Canadian. There was a distinct inability to misspell common sexual terms in his post that would indicate that he isn't a real american.

*Starts bording up the windows and running water in her bathtub. Prints off a photo of David Cronenburg and tapes it by the peek hole in the door for verification purposes*

Re: candida?
DOCTOR. DOCTOR DOCTOR DOCTOR. Untreated candida can cause really severe problems, and potentially kill you.

Jack if you don't mind me asking what was wrong with my post that you might close it?

I'm a girl. I'm also Canadian. Good catch!
Demoiselle, can you actually tell me anything about this? Looking it up online all that I find are sites trying to sell me something. I haven't found any real information. It does seem that it can be a big problem, but I'm not sure how it could be so serious and hardly anyone have heard of it.

Re: candida?
Umm, from what I remember in my research from when I had it, if it's left untreated (it's in your mouth, I assume) it can spread to the intestines, and overgrow. This can cause a variety of problems, the most serious other than death being Leaky Gut Syndrome.
Try wiki/googling "Oral Candidasis" or "thrush." You'll get more results that way.
Go to the doctor, and be sure to eat plenty of yogurt. At lease 2-3 times a day. Should help a bit. And the medication you get from the doctor will probably be an oral rinse dealie, that might burn a bit, but trust me, it's better than having thrush.
Go to the doctor now, please.

I normally close all medical question threads with an admonishment to seek out a qualified physician.

Ditto.
I wonder if a Canadian was the candida patient zero.

True. I wasn't seeking any medical opinions from anyone though. Just looking for any experiences mostly.
Thanks Jack for leaving this open, then, and Demoiselle for your info

Re: candida?
No problem. I've unfortunately had it twice, due to antibiotics, and I would rather go through mono again than thrush. It SUCKS.

Re: candida?
I'd like to add that Candida albicans is a very rare disease on "healthy" people, where it exists in a benign way. As a true infection usually it's an opportunistic infection that targets people with AIDS or some immunodeficiency, or also can be caught as an hospital infection. I've seen some pretty bad cases of Candida but that's cuz I'm having some of my Med classes in the infecciology department. So yeah get yourself checked. You need drugs to take care of that. And maybe get a HIV test as well.

Re: candida?
Oh yes, freak her out, why don't you...
Candida is very common after a cycle of antibiotics. The good bacteria in your body that keep regular amounts of candida regular are killed off by the antibiotics and the candida grows like crazy.
Black tongue is more of a common thing in HIV/AIDS patients.
