Like most people said whats the big deal? Sam isn't really that manly of a name there are some names that go both ways. Besides your friends ragging on you is natural im sure they will rag on you no matter what. I do it to my friend and vice versa its what friends do they make fun of each others girlfriends.

sam HAS to be short for something most likely samantha. so just find out what her "long" name is and call her by it. if sam is her full name then come up with a "pet" names for her if you dont like the one she has
