Default relationships and university (canadian kind)

So my girlfriend and I broke up last weekend because she didn't have time for a relationship and university. we met in college and everything was amazing back then, but not she can't find the time no more.

so, instead of imploding every night about this, i wanted to know if this happend to any others? Is university a big relationship strain?

A lot of people break up as they leave for University. It's very rarely about time or distance in my opinion. It's usually because you were good enough for her when there were so few other options, but now she's going to university and there are all these other people to choose from.

Basically, she doesn’t want to be tied down right now. And I don’t judge her, because I’d be the same.

Yeah, happened to me and all my friends. It seems that the beginning of university/college is a line. Any relationships started before that line, end when they reach it. Any relationships after that line, generally are as doomed as any regular relationship.

Well, me and my girlfriend had been with each other for a little over 20 months before we both started University. We're still together after almost two terms. It can be very difficult, especially when you see other couples down at the Union partying and getting close with each other - but if you're determined to be together then you can make it work.

Some people really can't multitask. Certian programs at the universities here do require a massive commitment of time and effort, especially when you find the work to be a challenge. I, personally, don't consider it a reason to break up, but it is a valid reason to many people. It's time for you to start moving on with life, if she wasn't willing to keep going then there must not have been the strongest of feelings involved. It won't be long before you're chuckling about the girl who couldn't handle school and a relationship.

damn,

see i just hope that when i get in (this september) I am as busy as she is/was. that way i can say to myself: "oh, i really don't have time for girl"

I would feel better about the break up, seeing it as a necessity rather than: "i'm breaking up with you cuz i want to meet other ppl"

eugh, anyways, good to know, good to know...

Damn, exact same situation here, aswell as another fellow canuck.

Yeah, met before she went into Uni, had great times (I was in College) then when she went full time, it all went downhill for a very slow and grueling time before we absolutely had no time to see eachother anymore and broke up.

Shitty deal.

:S this might affect me and ive been worrying about it some lately.

Me and my girlfriend have been going out about 4 and a half months now and we're both in first year of 6th form college - so 16/17 years old. Wether we will even still be together is a separate issue, but say that we make it to the end of upper sixth and we're still together, it would be really shitty if we go to unis which are very far apart would not be able to see eachother very often.

This leading to a breakup is a thought i don't even want to think about. What the fuck is there to do?

Ah well, guess there's not much worth in thinking about it now.

Best concentrate on the present for now then deal with the future when it comes.

Some classes can take a lot of a person's time depending on what they are and the importance they hold for a person.

I'm a bit obsessive about my passions.

I think if you talk about it with her now, you might be able to prepare for what is to come. When my girlfriend and I broke up, my first thought was, maybe we can put the relationship aside for university, seeing each other on breaks, and really pick it up when we would be done.

maybe if you talk to her, you can get that chance if you are ever unlucky enough ro brake up because of uni.

I had to break up with my girlfriend because I started work at McD's and I didn't have the time for both her and ronald
