I'm sure this question has been asked A LOT of times here but...

What is love to you?

I was high out of my head the other day and was writing everything I thought onto paper. At some point I started writing about love and this is a small part of what I wrote:

"Love is when someone elses feelings become important enough to you that you would lower yours for theirs. thats love. That is true love when you are 100% willing to feel bad so someone else can feel good."

What do you guys think about this? Does it sound similar to your ideas about love?

That's pretty good. I also think it has to do with being comfortable around the person, being yourself and being happy at the same time. Also, kinda like your definition, taking pain from them to yourself.

I agree with you, I only posted part of what I said so that I could get my main point across.

I wrote all about how you can love your friends but with a girlfriend theres also attraction and other things thrown into the mix.

Being comfortable and happy when your with the person is also a big part of it.

If it's self-depreciating then how can it be love? You will depreciate yourself in the process...then what is there left for them to love?

Because of you, I had to make up some bullshit story about why I started laughing insanely while I was on the phone with my girl friend's family (they were all on speaker phone).

EDIT: oc6, I meant that you are willing to do that. Not that you do that all the time. As in I care so much about my girlfriends feelings that I would do something that makes me feel shitty to make her happy.

Don't most people feel that way?

Where everything feels so right and perfect yet so real and if its meant to be then it will stay in your hearts.

Love will make you smile when theres no reason to be happy. Its the best feeling in my opinion. But with love comes missing. and missing someone hurts alot.

Heres something an old friend told me once about love.

I like to think there's more to love then that, it makes living more enjoyable.

I love this.

That definition works, but there is more to it.

You can't forget that their being happy brings you happiness. So, while you may be unhappy with something, you're still happy. As with all emotions, love is conflicted.

Within reason, yes. But I'm not so certain that I would do something that made me feel shitty in order to take away someone else's unhappiness. After all, we have to learn to deal with a certain level of unhappiness in our lives. I think that's an important skill to learn.

Just as a "for instance", what have you done for someone in that way? I mean...something that really made you feel "shitty".

Love is giving the ability to someone to tear you apart emotionally and hoping they don't. I think someone here said that on here. I thought it was one of the best I've heard.

I like lying to myself too. Like when someone said peeing is just for getting rid of crap in your system, I prefer to think we do it because the wonderful magic unicorns need nourishment! It just makes living more enjoyable to be deluded you know

There's no magic in love. They should stop glorifying it, it's good enough without hype and stupid expectations of happily ever after

that sounds good...it is applicable to not just guy-girl relationships...but the relationships between you and your family members, and close life long friends....good definition.

love...for me? being willing to do pretty much anything for your partner, for me, it could go as far as risking my life for them...i have a few friends i would do that for...

A mistake.

Love is beyond definition. A lot of you are right in what you say, but can't come anywhere near putting your finger on what it actually is that makes it so wonderful or gives it the power to completely destroy somebody. Not that I can, I'm just saying. And it's wonderful that way.
