Default Rape vs Violence

I have been wondering about this lately. Why is it so much worse to be raped than to be severly beaten up? Both are a violation, both make you feel helpless, yet society veiws rape much different than any other form of aggresson. Being a male I don't have the most valuable perspective on the issue, so I'm interested what other have to say on the issue. If it came down to being physically mangled or raped, I would choose the rape as long as I calculated it to be less painful.

You'd really prefer to have a penis rammed up your ass against your will?

Rape is usually about taking violation to the next level.. it's a cultural thing in some regards.

Although it's not always about pleasure, it's still someone forcing you to suffer for their own enjoyment, I think.

Sex is something you should enjoy, it should be pleasurable. Rape is reversing this against you, I suppose.

Even if it was being raped by another guy?

I've been raped, but never severely beaten.

When I think about it on an emotional level, I think both should give the victim a license to kill.

But, not logically I guess.

My stepmother is a rape case examiner.Rape is about power, knowing they cant do anything while you violate their body.

Rape is worse.

Maybe our disgust with rape is a biological function. Rape allows weaker males to fertilize stronger females and weaken the gene-pool.

To an extent, I agree.

Then wouldn't the issue of consent be an issue of power as well?

In terms of the societal issues, rape really goes against the social indoctrination most of us go through to find a mate and create a "legitimate" family. Biologically, no guy likes being cuckolded, and a child would thrive more with at least one healthy, non-traumatized parent.

I'd rather be severely beaten than raped because the aftereffects of rape include self-disgust, self-loathing, and a general degradation of individual self-identity. It's probably the same in this aspect for guys as well as girls, and while I obviously wouldn't be facing pregnancy and gyncecological damage, it would be degrading.

It's not rape -unless- you get the shit beaten out of you.

See, I've gotten into fights, and I've gotten my ass kicked in roughly half of them. But you know what? I never cried, or felt degraded, or anything like that. The part about violence that is bad is basically just the pain. It sucked to be hurting for a few days after a bad fight, but at least I know I fought with dignity and worth, like a human being should.

Rape, on the other hand, is meant to be degrading and humiliating, and make you feel like less of a human. This, I don't think I could just "shrug off". It would be too degrading.

So yes, rape is much worse than just violence because rape is a form of torture. Violence, at least the kind most people encounter, is often based in power over someone else, but in a less direct and more managable way.

So if you got drugged at a party, fucked in the ass while you were senseless by some unknown guy who took pictures of it and anonymously posted it up all over the place, what is it?

I've been severely beaten by a family member, but never raped and i totally agree.

But i think the difference in some cases is, using my friend as an example here... She was sexually abused by her father and it has given her severe emotional issues as well as problems with being physical with somebody. She told me it makes her feel "dirty", and when she did those things it made her feel guilty afterwards. I think being raped by somebody who is supposed to be your PARENT would be worse then being physically beaten by them.

In general i would much rather be severely beaten, if not even murdered by somebody then raped. I can see myself that it probably sounds stupid but i think its just the old fashioned european way i was brought up, i would much rather wake up in a hospital bed with broken arms and ribs then wake up knowing some asshole of a guy held me down, took my dignity and used me for his own personal release or power trip.

rape is a fucking violation of a person's life. if you get beat up, you'd have a couple of bumps and bruises that'll heal. if you get raped, you'd be fucking scarred for like. this isnt something you can really laugh off as you get older, it might even fuck up any intimate relationships you have in the future. i've met rape victims, if you asked them whether they would rather be raped or beat up, they'll probably say i would rather get beaten up about 100 times before i'd be raped again.

on a related topic, if you get raped there is a chance of STDs, AIDs, HIVs and etc. this can potentially really hurt you and your health. when you get beat up you can heal, but this will stick with you for life.

i didnt even go into the religious issues involving rape. in some societies the rape victim is punished because sometimes a society will teach victim(usually a girl) that it's her fault, or that she brought it upon her self. in some religions your virginity is your purity, if it's taken in the wrong way you will go to hell. there is a lot more that i'm not getting into .

Drug rape is slightly different. It's still stupid that you put yourself in a situation to get drugged, but you cant really be held responsible. Sometimes, shit like that happens and theres nothing you can do about it. It's the exception though.

And drug rape doesnt count if you randomly decide to go for a ride with a dealer you've never met before, and smoke up with them and it just so happens to surprisingly be laced with something.

I don't know anyone who's been raped before so I don't exactly have a crystal clear understanding of it's damage...

I see it as more of a privacy violation (in it's most extreme form) than simply a violent attack.

Physically, getting beaten up's on the outside, it's not part of you, it's 'on' you, wereas rape is insided you, which makes it part of you, also that you feel physical repulsion at having a foreign object forced inside your body against your will.

Also the whole domination thing, because women are (usually) naturally less physically strong than men and rammed home (no pun intended) so forcefully makes you feel weak, powerless and violated, which is never a good feeling.

Also that your not likely to know someone else who's been raped, so your all alone in feeling it - there really is no one else you know who's been throught what you've been through and even if there was you probably wouldn't want to go through it all with them just because they've been raped aswell. Plus the social stigmata from being raped, would you be the boyfriend of a rape victim? People assume that their all fucked up an weak after it, or that they'll never get over it so the way people treat them reminds them that they've been raped - it's not something that you can even try and get away from.

People live much calmer, safer lives these days that even just getting beaten up in the street by scallies wearing hoodies makes you scared of all people wearing hoodies. Imagine what it's like, for that kind of person, to be violently raped, especially in their own home, or near to it. They'll never feel safe their again, ever.
