Killing romantic feelings while still remaining close to someone.
Thread is for both possibilities: You're madly in... something?, and are driving her away. Need to back off. Don't know how.

Genders reversed, multiplied, whatever.
Possible?

Re: Killing romantic feelings while still remaining close to someone.
If you need to back off just back off.
Get a freind to help you out, keep you busy.
If she's freaking you out, just let her know. Tell her you're gonna be busy for the next week or so.
I have driven a couple girls a way, just worried so much about losing them that I didn't give them there space.
Just remember, people are replacable. Very rarely will you ever not be able to do better.

Re: Killing romantic feelings while still remaining close to someone.
Don't ask me. Situation with my ex is messed. We're still really into each other, but the fact is with her young age (15), the distance (1900km overseas), and her nutcase mother (scientologist ) things are just not feasable.
I've decided to stop talking to her on msn so much/at all and just telephone her occasionally. I am worried about either being seen too much as just a friend, or from her getting sick of me before she's actually old enough. She also says she doesn't want to stop me from seeing other people but wants to be with me in the future.
Ha! I managed to not help you at all yet go on about myself! rabbitweed 1 stab 0. But yeah, I think if you just want to be friends with her, take a break.

Re: Killing romantic feelings while still remaining close to someone.
So you're madly in something. I got that. But I'm also madly (insanely as some say) in a 10.5 week long drinking binge...I think, the weeks started blurring together about 2 ago. BUT, we need some more details her. I am madly, also about the same legnth of time, in hate of my ex right now. Could I back off... eh maybe, but I don't feel like it.
SO, depending on the situation, warrants different advice.
See, said ex of mine thought her knew guy could stop me from hating her by telling me she is happy with him, and I need to let it go. Granted I probably should, but not now. But all that got her was a new boyfriend with a black eye and who was just inches from taking a flying beer bottle to the dome.
Sooooo, please, lets drop the SWIM bullshit and tell us your real problems. And if in some random occurence you were posting this for "a friend" who actually was a friend and not actually you, post us details of their situation. We don't judge here on TOTSE. *Trustworthy Smile*

Re: Killing romantic feelings while still remaining close to someone.
There is so many possible ways to do this. Don't get caught up in thinking that there is only one exit.
There will always be a sort of tension. I myself find this highly uncomfortable to the point where the only solution is to remove myself from that person.
Which is a shitty thing to do when you have a mutal emotional investment in each other.
Which is where the thinking process helps.
I think this is a no-win situation. Either way, the tension will make you wish someone had fucked someone and just gotten it out of their system. Which might be the last nail in the coffin, but you can't say that until you've tried. Depending on your attitudes to such activities, it would be a last nail worth pounding.
Not all friends can be lovers, and not all lovers stay friends.

Re: Killing romantic feelings while still remaining close to someone.
I talked to her today for the least I ever have, and I mean ever. Tonight I hooked up with another girl I've been interested in, and she's coming back soon (tonight).
Looks like I've made my decision.
Thanks for caring guys
