Default rabbitweeds attempt at being calm, assertive and confident.

Right, so it's 11 pm right now in New Zealand. Tommorow morning at 9 am my first shift at my new job begins.

My room is adjacent to the longue/kitchen, and my flatmates both usually don't get up until about 10-11am. Which basically means they are up until 3am some nights, watching tv quite loudly, making things in the kitchen, and constantly opening/closing the sliding door to go out to smoke.

Often, when I have to get up in the morning, this really irritates me. Usually I'll just bottle it all up and get really irritated but stay in my room. Some times it gets so much I catch myself screaming "FUCKING PRICKS!" but it usually only gets to a "F-!" before I catch myself.

Anyway in about half an hour, I am going to go out and there, and attempt to calmly but forcibly tell them that from now on I don't want them messing around outside my room past midnight. Truth to be told I feel scared as hell and feel like I'm being unreasonable even though I know logically this is a reasonable request.

I may fuck this up with hilarious consequences. So uh, yeah, does anyone else have this kinda problem? difficulty being assertive and such? It's something I'm trying to shake..

Shotgun. Murder/suicide.

But chances are they're going to gang up on you , you have chosen the wrong battle. I suggest you read The Art of War before trying something like this again.

Are they the type of people that really don't get hints?

I mean, when I'd walk outta my room in the middle of the night and my loud flatmates saw me they'd be like 'oh shit, sorry man, we'll try keep it down' (try being the main word there :P ) but it got the point across without me having to bitch at them.

Just ask politely, stress that you start work early in the mornings and that you'd appreciate that on weeknights that they don't make noise near your room.

Oh and try ear plugs, I sleep with those after living for a year in an apartment block with all university students

Yeah you don't seem like you have the natural disposition for this. Look man, on this Earth, in America, you get to do what the fuck you want to do. If you want those fuckers to shut up, go out and tell them so...with strength in your voice and body language. Can't tell you how through totse I'm afraid, so I guess you'll just have to be tired for work tomorrow.

You have as much right to demand them to be quiet in their actions, as they do to be as loud as they want in their actions. It's alla bout who is the stronger person. If you act like you're serioius, and that you'll throw down if you aren't taken seriously, then they're gonna blow you off. I know people though man, and there's a 90% chance that even with a meager protest, yuou will get them to quiet down in their actions...so just go do it and have a good first day of work.

I did it! Hooray!

I went out there, explained to him politely that I was starting work and would be working mornings and for him not to play TV past midnight. He said "Yeah ok" in a nice "fair enough, i don't really mind" way.

Remains to be seen if he'll be true to his word, but at least I did it in a nice dignified way.

Er...sorry to make posts about insignificant things but I imagine alot of totseans are messed up and have difficulties preforming basic social interactions so I feel it is relevant.

I don't really. My two natural modes are muttering to myself angrily, and snapping It's something I really want to break out of.

I know the exact same kind of people. Except it usually takes a punch to the kidneys to shut them up.
