Who has that.. (guy problem)
I just came back from my dad, and I was just thinking, how will I ever be half the man he is..
The only thing for me that's depressing and inspiring at the same time.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
Whenever I talk to my father, I think "I'm glad I won't end up like that". He spent his whole life saying he was going to do something with his life and never did. I've already done more with my life.
...typing that saddened the hell out of me.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I'm a girl, but I still have that problem. My dad is just such a great guy, nice, smart and extremely successful. I dunno though, I think it's a pretty nice problem to have, having an awesome dad, lol.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I could make this post either long, or short, I'm gonna make it short, because I have my reasons, one of them being that he deserves more then a post on a message board, and I'll take my time for it one day.
Anyway, it's that he's such a good, moral person. He was just explaining to me, how he got his life perfect the way it is. Seriously, an hour ago he was taking every aspect of his life, and he showed me that if he got more of it, or changed it, that it couldn't be better then it is right now..
How can you live up to that?
With everything, he always has that one good answer, which makes everything fall into place. Amazing man.
Thanks for asking oc6.
Guess it's not just a guy problem after all^?
My bad.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
My dads a great guy, he owns his business, he makes a nice amount of money and hes happy doing it, I'd like to do that and all, but its kinda sad, my dad really has no friends, my uncle(his only brother) died a few years ago, and now it seems that his only friends are really....his kids.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I have that situation as well, but I don't see it as a problem. My vision for my life far different than what my dad did with his, so I don't have that element to our relationship. Though it's quite an order to live up to.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I always, beyond a shadow of a doubt, knew my father loved me.
That was the single most important thing I can say about him. He's not wealthy, in fact he took a lower paying job so he could be home more. I remember him sitting us all down and taking the time to explain why and that it would mean we might have to sacrifice some of the things we wanted. He made me realize there are more important things than money.
I love my dad.

OK number one Aseren theres your first mistake. You say you will make time for it one day. Dude how do you know when God is gonna decide its your dads time to go home? I mean I dont wanna sound morbid but tomorrow is not gauranted. It took me 30years to tell my dad thank you for raising me the way he did.I still aint told my mom. My parents split when I was a baby so I moved alot. So they both raised me. Its great to hear you have a good dad but you dont have to do anything major for him to know your greatful. Just telling him Thank you works wonders. I just hope my boys can tell me the same thing when they grow up. God help me they dont turn out like I did.
And now I side with Hippy Hunter. Your an asshole cause now I am depressed thinkin about my kids since I dont get to see them cause they live on the otherside of the country.
Just remember Tomorrow isnt guarented

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
*TEAR*
My dad is an alcoholic. He physically abused me for almost all of my life. For no reasons at all. Him and my mom went through a very bad divorce 2 years ago.
I chose to live with my mom and visit him. One time during visitation Me and my dad got in a fight because I was talking to my mom on the phone. My mom called the cops and came to my dads house to get me. The cop looked me in the face and called me a liar.
After that me and my dad didn't talk for almost a year. He wouldn't even acknoledge me if he seen me in public. A few months ago he lost his licence to DUI. He drives truck for a living. Not anymore. Anyway, I think that opened his eyes to reality. We now talk and he talks to my mom and everything. He took me out to get me my first tattoo a week ago.
I don't want to be like my dad, He really fucked up his like and it's taken him til now to figure that out. I'm really scared for my dad because If he doesn't stop smoking and drinking he will die in the next year or so.
It's killing his liver and he had half his lung removed like 6 years ago. Few months back his lung collapsed. LEaving him with half a lung to keep him breathing. I'm very scared for my dad. And I cry everytime I think about the possibility of him passing.
By the way, I'm 16 and a dude. almost 17.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I met my father a few months ago for the first time in fourteen years. He's weak minded, immature and pathetic. If I turn out like him, I'm going to castrate myself.
My mother's ex husband, though, is the person I will always hate most in my life. The mental, physical and emotional turmoil he put our family through will never be forgiven.
I havent had much luck when it comes to male role-models... at least I can learn from their mistakes.

Sounds pretty cool. I'd love to think like that, but when I start to, things just love to go wrong.
I think talking aloud about the things you're happy about in life tends to jynx them and fuck shit up an awfull lot./ Or maybe that's just me.
I hated my dad. He hated himself, and he said I'd allways be like him, crap at everything, mediochre and destined to fail at everything.
Maybe I will be crap at everything, and maybe I am mediochre, but unlike him, I'm enjoying every minute of it.
I dont want to achive massive things in life nescessarily, I think being happy is achievement enough, and its something he never even got close to.
And I thank my lucky stars that I'll never be a fat middleaged ugly lonely dirty man who scared his own family away.

My dad is awesome. Except he's starting a slow descent into alzheimer's hell. His dad has it, and so do all his aunts and uncles. It's going to be very, very sad.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
My dad's alright... He's cool and does a lot of important stuff around, he's a great teacher and a mason but with his family he has his times... Sometimes he creeps me out, he talks to my mum and me n my brother screaming almost all the time and when he's pissed off it's crazy... one day we were discussing something in the car and he got furious and speeded up so much i started crying and bleeding from my nose.
anyway i hope i grow up calmer than him...thing is sometimes i already resemble him a bit and i stand up against him, i always answer to his lousy comments when he's acting all superior towards my mum n stuff. i'm the only one who does it and my brother's growing up so he might start standing up against him too. i'm a girl anyway.
he's a real clever man, but i hate his mood swings and his arrogance towards his family, makes me act arrogant towards him to show him he has someone who won't ever back down, even if he's scaring the shit out of me. he never hits us physically tho, it's more psychological "violence".

I'm happy with the man that I am and so is my father.
I almost feel as if something is lost by not having these feelings of admiration. My father is just a man, no different from you or I.

I really love my dad, which makes me sad knowing that when he passes away I'll be very lonely and it's going to hurt bad. He's not sick or anything, but everybody's gotta go sometime, and thinking about it is making me depressed right now.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
My dad's got a PhD in physics, holds several patents (one of which has made him rich), and is as fit, handsome, and athletic as hell.
I hope I don't turn out like him. Yes, I'm proud of his accomplishments, but he's the coldest, cruelest person I've ever met. I was born month and months early because he kicked my mother in the stomach while she was pregnant... and that's about the least he did. He wasn't even alcoholic or anything; just didn't seem to care about anyone else.
I could go on about how horrible he was, but I feel kinda bad. He seems to have changed. Lately he's been making an effort to be a part of my life, despite being thousands of miles away. He's never apologized, to me or my mother, but he seems to be trying to make it up...
So yeah. I love him, of course, but I don't really know how to feel about him.
My stepfather never got a doctorate or made hundreds of thousands, but he's stuck by me all these years. He's 72 and stronger, healthier, and more energetic than men half his age. Now there is a man I look up to.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
Cute thread...
From most peoples perspectives, it won't be hard for me to be half the man my dad is... he's a truck driver. He delivers beer. He's a middle-class semi-alcoholic stoner.
But he's a great dad. His dad split before he could even talk, so he had no role model... but unlike many, he did not perpetuate the cycle of poor fathering; I think he's done a great job with me.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I'm not really lacking a father figure in my life cause I've got my big brother.
He taught me alot of stuff, (including how to cripple a guy in six different ways), he's allways been protective and nice. Sure, he's still had his bastardly big brother issues, stealing my marbles when I was a kid, thieving my temazepam when I was older, but he's generally been okay.
He was the one who introduced me to aikido, he was the one who first rescued me from being a lonely little fat kid spending my life hiding in my room - he introduced me to his friends, invited me to his house parties, tried to hook me up with his nicer friends..
Sure alot of that stuff went wrong, but he tried. And he still does.
Even though he's broke as fuck as he's just bought a house with his GF, he tried his best to remember me at christmas. He invited me over when my mum wouldnt even come to this country to see me,
even though he was so broke, he got me a MP3 player, admittedly it was blatantly stolen and faulty, but he tried.
I should call him.

Well... most of the time i do admire him for what he has gone through and still manages to smile and be happy (he had a really tough life), on the other hand, he can be a real asshole. But hey, everyone can. I just hope i dont have to deal with the same things as him. For my stepdad that is. If i ever meet my real father, i will make sure his face is a bloody pulp.

Re: Who has that.. (guy problem)
I think I had the best dad in the world and it is one of my few regrets that 1. He wasn't my biological father and 2.I will never be as good a dad to my kids as he was to me.
A soft spoken, gentle man with a wickedly dry sense of humour. As a father he was always slow to chide and quick to bless. He is well known and liked by all.Genuinely one of those people who make this world smell sweeter.
However...he's also one of the few men who actually scare me. Although I don't think he has raised a hand in anger to anyone in 40 years he was brought up in the slums and bombsites of the Old Eastend.
Let me put it this way, a couple of years back I was expecting a night time visit from a gang of angry men. I needed some help, neede d someone else on the doorstep beside me. I called him.

I get that al lthe time man . MY dad kicks ass in sum ways but sucks fucking cock in others . I think it will come in time . I mean, you know how parents are alwyas like " You will udnerstnad when you are older " I always ga fawed at that idea but now I agree ( I am 16 ) . I think that the fact that you look up to your old man is a sign that may be like him one day . Good luck . Take L.S.D. and open you'r soul ( kinda joknig, but seriouslly, it can help ) .
