Default Similar partners?

I have a friend, 'Joan', who's recently started dating again after the untimely death of her ex. At a new years party, another friend made the worst faux pas imaginable calling Joan's new boyfriend by the dead ex's name.

There was a silence as everyone finally noted what had drifted around unsaid for the entire night. The new boyfriend was almost identical to the old one.

The other night I met a really gorgeous girl, she's Austrian (I'm Australian) and we really hit it off. I got her number and we're catching up this weekend.

But I have a German ex girlfriend, and while I'm very much over her, I can't help but notice the simmilarities!

Totse. What do you think of the phenomenon? Do you find people single out the same partners over and over, and why?

Share any stories, thoughts, pix,e.t.c. :d

The best example of that I can think of is Vertigo. God, that movie creeped me out more than the Birds, Psycho, and any others put together.

I dunno. Some people intentionally avoid remembrances of previous partners. I guess it depends how the relationship was. If it was good, you look for those things, if it was bad, you avoid them.

I do this to an extreme extent actually... I'll even notice traits in some random girl that remind me of my ex from like 4 years ago and it will make me more attracted.

yes i openly pick girls with similarities to my first love.

It sounds strange but im sure we all do it conciously or sub-conciously . We all long for the first hit of the love bong. Nothing ever quite comes that close though ... :/

That's not true. I'm single now, but my 2nd girlfriend > 1st girlfriend in almost every way. The hit from the love bong was stronger 2nd time round

i've fucked 3 girls with the same name consecutively, 2 out of those 3 were very similar looking, and the girl i've been chilling with lately also looks like those 2 girls who are similar looking.

i don't really think it's a phenomenon...i like a certain kind of girl and that's what i go after.

however, it was weird that those 3 girls i fucked consecutively had the same name.

Dude, this type of thing just sort of happens. I wouldn't necessarily read so far into it that you think your replacing your ex with a new girl, or something similar. What were the qualities that attracted you to your ex? Are those qualities that you generally find attractive?

usually the guys i date are pretty different. i've dated taller and shorter guys, mostly brown-haired but that's cuza most people in my country are brunettes. i've dated a blond guy and an irish ginger one, a german one... guys with glasses, without, thinner or fatter.

but lately, really funny thing is two guys, one of them who's from my college and we're just friends although we've shagged once, and a guy i met recently and who's about to be my boyfriend, they both have the same name, black hair and green eyes, and just a slight height difference. even more or less same kind of body... and dicks. lol just real weird. they're still very different besides those...main things.
