Are drugs the answer?
I don't know. I know everybody seems to answer every "I'm sad because ___" thread with "Smoke, Drink, repeat," but it all seems too easy to me.
I Personally am, as I'm sure everyone probably is, going through a low spot in life. Everything's pointless, cheap, fake, nothing to look forward to. So a few weeks ago I bought 20 bucks worth of bud to smoke myself. The truth is, I can't tell if I enjoy smoking pot, but I can't see myself doing it every time I feel a little emo. It feels like the easy way out. Plus, I don't much enjoy being paranoid.
Your thoughts about drug use to kill the relationship pain, please.

Drugs are always the way to go, weed just isn't for everyone...when I'm depressed it just gives me additional anxiety.
Try opiates

Re: Are drugs the answer?
Have you tried being active when you smoke? My area is safe enough that I can walk blocks/miles in many directions. Sure, I get pumped & am sometimes kinda a little bit too vague when crossing the street?
Yet, it's better to get out & practice my street crossing skills & get a head full of fresh oxygen than to sit a-mopin'. I usually try to avoid busy streets as much as possible. Even activities in house are good.
If you do it sitting down? It probably isn't an 'activity'...

Re: Are drugs the answer?
No, drugs are certainly not the answer. Sure they're fun, but you really shouldn't be using them as an emotional crutch.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
Nothing wrong with being emo, you're being depressed for a reason. Drugs have their uses, but sometimes they only hide you from reality. This can be good or bad. If you can deal with it otherwise, try to stay away from them IMHO. When they are gone, so is the money you spent on them, and all it did was buy you time.
Drugs work for some people, not all.
Drugs work for some problems, most definitly not all.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
Drugs aren't the answer for that type of pain, but I don't think its a bad thing to use them, it just shouldn't be the ONLY way.
People ask me why I smoke a lot of pot and for some reason they can't accept the answer of 'because I like it' as valid and that I have something else going on my head.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
The trend here is, if your girl breaks up with you and you're sad... then drink--get drunk/smoke.
If you're socially awkward and you want to fit in... then drink--get drunk/smoke
but what does drink--get drunk/smoke do for one exactly? It's a temporary solution (at least to you) but it puts you directly back at the same spot where you began, then you get tangled up in a cycle, dependent on shit to keep you performing well.
What about giving someone a solution to actual make themselves better S&A? I always encourage people to keep pushing, if your girl is bad get a good one, always keep getting/do better and better, healing pain with drugs only puts you on a stand still.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
You'll ignore this advice because it's not the easy way out, but exercise is the only drug that will help you.
Go running, start working out, join a sports team.
I used to work as a personal trainer and I've seen so many people's lives turned around just by exercising.
Right now you're feeling dull and lifeless, which is rediculous because so many opportunities are passing you by every moment.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
I think using drugs to mask any type of emotion- is a bad idea.
Drugs (and by that I mean a select few) should be used for mind expansion and experimentation. Sort of a 'side dish' with whatever you're experiencing.
Never let drugs be your entertainment, instead use them along side it. Or eventually they will replace it, and become anything but entertaining.

Until you wake up the next morning, and are all out of 'drink'. Then you're back at square one.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
Yes, drugs are the answer. But doing drugs and then continuing to sit in your room and being depressed is not the answer. The goal is to get fucked up enough to get rid of the pain and be able to go out and do things. For example, the last time I smoked pot, I cleaned my room, worked out, vacuumed the house, and made dinner. Would I normally do all that sober? No. That's more than I normally do in like, a week.
Or do what moony said, and just go out and wander. Don't do it while you're stumbling shit-faced drunk at 2pm. Discretion is key.

Drugs distract you. Hopefully long enough to get over the pain.
Can't say I recommend it, but it's an option.

Drugs aren't a long-term answer, but if you're in the depths of hell in the short term...

Re: Are drugs the answer?
The idea is you do enough crazy stupid shit while fucked up that you realize your problems before aren't that problematic and you get a new swagger in your step - so just laying around after smoking pot doesn't get you anywhere.
I for one train for the golden gloves, boxing, and get fucked up alot. Works for me.

Yes, I will. I tried exercising, working out on a regimen for a couple months.
I felt like a fake. I don't care how strong I am. I mean, a good body is great, but I never found exercising to be the stress release that everyone else seems to think it is.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
Drugs are like patching a hole on a boat so it doesn't sink. It works for a while, but sooner or later you need to fix it or the hole will be too big to patch.

So I can do drugs if I don't have a boat?
Hooray!

Re: Are drugs the answer?
So what's the difference between using drugs to help you and using them as a crutch.
I mean... crutches help you walk, right?
I don't have any bud anyway... I threw the last of it away... THREW IT AWAY! What an idiot. So pretty much, my way to prevent getting more bud was to throw it away, because I don't have any hookups and I had to call a friend who called his drug-dealer friend. And I don't want to do that again.

Re: Are drugs the answer?
How to be an emotionally unhealthy person:
Use drugs whenever you don't know how to deal with something. This way, you avoid developing the necessary coping skills. Pretty soon, you will have yourself convinced that you COULD deal with whatever the problem is, but you'd just rather get high.

That's a convenient way of convincing yourself you're not doing anything wrong.
(Not saying using drugs is "wrong," but that using them as a crutch, as has been made so evidently clear by this thread, is.)

That said I honestly feel that cocaine helps me heal emotionally and move past problems that would otherwise have blocked my getting over issues.
