...insist on calling you by some baby nick name?

It was years before I finally persuaded my family to stop calling me 'Boo' or worse still 'icky Boo'!

Why do I mention this riveting fact?

Well I have been making a great effort recently to stop calling my now (almost) a-dolt kids by their various baby names.

With not much success

I still refer to eldest as 'patch-patch' and to crippled kid as 'smeagol golem' (he can't use his legs and used to commando crawl over the floor , grizzling 'I don't likezzz itzzz').

Can't seem to get into the habit of using their proper names

So what were you called and how did it blight your lives?

*edit: continuing the Tolkien theme, youngest has always been 'the hobbit' cos he used to be short, stocky and had BIG feet.

Now of course he's all grown up...at 151/2 he's as tall as me, and as wide. When he comes into the room then he blocks out the sun and he pulls minor planets into his gravitational wake

My mum called me "Kluemel" or "kloomel". Don't know what it means or how it's spelt.

My dad always called me "junge". Or "boy" in German, oh how affectionate.

Oh my mum also called me "Zuschen" or someting like that. Again, no idea what it means. Sweeten? Sweety?

My best mate has called me "fag" for years. As did my gf. She also called me "azazel". Apparantly I give off a strong gay vibe.

Since you're German, I'll ask you: my mum calls my dad Shatzy (that's how she says it, not how it's spelt), what does that mean?

"Schatzi" means '(little)treasure' and is the common way of addressing the love of your life.

I don't think my parents gave me some weird nickname.. they just called me by my name.

I do know that my grandmothers mom used to call me something else.. but that was just because she was losing her memory.

My parents insist on calling me Peter...The only person I will let call me that is my granny.

They still slip and call me it at times.

It's my given name but I don't know why it bothers me so much. I much prefer Pete.

Again...Don't know why...I think it makes me feel like a little boy who's been naughty again.

I'm trying to start calling my dad by his real name, unfortunately I never broke the habit of saying daddy.

My parents usually just call me by my name, but if not it doesn't bother me. I'd say I get 'pumpkin' from my mom the most and 'punky' from my dad...

Yes I agree. I will not let people talk in that baby talk voice when they are speaking to my 3 year old either. It drives me nuts, how is he ever going to learn proper english if all he hears is baby talk. I call my son by his given name or sometimes I will call him ladd.

My familly all call me 'pog'.



They started calling me it when I was about 2 years old and gog into the habit of hiding food everywhere around the house.

And the name stuck.

"Wally" "Adge" "Wal" thats about all I remember, I can't even recall anyone addressing me by my real name. Its either one of those up there but with some-sort of personal slurr or something added.

Its not annoying as such, but... its just odd.

My mom always calls me Pie (like sugar pie), Pipester, and other variations on the theme. She's gotten better about it now that I'm 19 but still does it. I don't really mind it that much though. My sister has more pet names than me, and they bother her more, haha.

Kimby was one (One of my parents friends family's still call me that, but I allow it) and Janey (My middle name is Jane) was one my dad always called me. Like... back when he wasn't a cunt.

I didn't really get many nicknames. I'm trying to train everybody to stop calling me Kimberley though. It's Kim now, dammit!

Well my name's Laurence, and I got all kinds of nicknames that I still get referred to most of the time by my parents...which have seeped through to my friends because they hear my parents using them :/

Larry, Lorriental, L-man, Big L...anything with an L in it really. I also got a few nicknames based on things that I said wrong as a toddler but they were pretty shortlived and so I can't remember them really.

My names Lewis. My dad just calls me Lewis or Son, my mums side call me Lewy. One of my mates always calls me "L-dog" or "Lew to the wis". I had an anti-semitic girlfriend once who would call me "Jewis" when she was angry with me.

The best one my dad gave me was "ferret-face".

My name is Matt, but most of my family calls me Matty. My mom used to/does every once in a while call me Matty-moose, or shortened to Matty-moo...it just feels wierd, haha

I like my old nicknames. They're entertaining and nostalgic. Only a handful of people still know them and they're only used as a term of endearment on occasion.

My mum will call me whatever comes to hand sometimes, like honey pie sweetie, etc.

I call my Mum Mum and my Dad Dad. All very simple.

On my thirteenth birthday I told my dad that I was old enough to call him by his name.

He said that this was fine as long as he could call me Shithead.

He called me Shithead for a month before I got tired of calling him Raymond.

My mom insists upon calling me Punkin Pie.

My dad used to call me Jilly-bean, Kidney Bean, and Jilly-butt.

I had a few short lived ones, such as Unk. I couldn't say milk when I was little, so I said unk instead. And Pank, cause that's how I said pink.

My parents called me moose-lips, or brat, till I was bout 10.

From then on it's just been my name.

My mother can't even get my real name right, always cycles from my little brother's name to my big brothers, then finally to mine when trying to come up with it. You'd think you'd get a name right after 20 years

I was Jimmy intil I became a "big boy", now it's just Jim. Some of my friends call me Jimany.

my friends have been calling me"midgey"or "midget" for about 6 years now,on account of my shortness.new friends don't get it,as im taller now,not much,but also a bit more built/fat.

intersting but cool thing:my dad has heard me be called midgey for years,yet never called me it until recently.now whenever he's talking about me i always hear"yeah midgey did this or that".weird.weird,but cool.

My name is Matthew, but my mother is too lazy to pronounce the letter "t". She calls me "Ma-hoo", my friends caught on and call me that when poking fun now. Also Mathat. Most everyone ends up referring to me by my last name in the end, even though when they first learn it they have to repeat it a few times and think its weird. It grows on you I guess.

My mother goes through the pets before she gets to my name alot of the time.

It gets worse, my partner's mother will sometimes go to call me kiren. His brother's name.

Dinnie bear was my nickname as a kid, because I was very much into honey. But my sister copped it worse, she got nicknamed Boecek, which is 'bug' in turkish. Funny story how my parents came up with that one.

My parents always called me by my proper name. Its my friends that call me by, and gave to me, my nickname. The funny thing tho is all the girls refer to me by my full name. Whats up with that?

I used to burn stuff with matches as a litle-un, so my Dad always called me firebug.

He was the only one who did, and after he died it never resurfaced, it kind of makes me nostalgic.
