Need some help on this one... A cruel twist of it is.

So my sister wants to go to the Bahamas for Spring Break. She doesn't want to go without me, because she doesn't like to be alone in far away places.

My semi-girlfriend/definite lover wants me to visit her for Spring Break. Our spring breaks don't coincide, so I'd end up going to visit her for four or so days.

To further complicate things, they've had this dynamic between themselves for a while. Basically they're competing for my attention, with my girl(friend) saying I should spend time with her because she's my girlfriend, and my sister saying I should spend time with her because she's family.

They're both right, and there's no real way I can take either side. This has led to one nasty fight between my girlfriend and myself when I put my sister in favor of her. My sister always gives me the "I'm family, she's not" deal when I go the other way, and she's right about that.

My current take: ignore my sister, let her go to the Bahamas. Go skiing for a few days, then go see my girlfriend for a few more.

The catch: I've never been to the Bahamas and really want to go.

So... uum... Help? Anyone else have similar love/affection/relationship issues?

well in this situation I would do neither... be like I dont like being in the middle of situations like this so im not doing either... I don't have an older brother, so I wouldn't have any clue to your situation. But I too have a younger sister, and while there's no dynamic between her and my partner, she will vie for my attention on occasion. Because we're close, and we've gotten used to having eachother around nearly all the time.

If you are it could just be that you are actually spending more time with your girlfriend than you are with your family, and she's starting to feel a bit alone.

And you know, if you want to go to the bahamas, go to the fucking bahamas, hell take your girlfriend with you if you can. If you can't take your girlfriend, only stay over there for a few days (weeks?, I don' know how long spring break is, I'm australian), your sister will find her feet eventually, she probably just needs you there for that initial support. I liked who ever's idea it was to go with who ever asked you first though, that seems fair enough.

I think the fact your sister uses the fact that you're family against you is wrong. It should be your choice and you shouldn't be manipulated like that.
