So there's this guy I know (also in college) who met this highschool girl a while ago. Apparently their interaction consisted mostly of 'fooling around'. So he wanted to see her this weekend, but her parents wanted him to stay away from her unless they could meet him. Judging by a phone call I overheard, it seems he fucked it up and she can't see him anymore.

Don't know why but I find all this funny as hell. No offence if you're reading this man.

I've done that before, gone out with a girl and not met the parents who wouldn't let her see anyone without meeting them. She painted all these pictures of how mean and nasty they were.

In the end, it was just a pain in the arse, so it ended. I met them afterwards, and they were actually pretty cool, but the ship had sailed by then.

It was a shame, I was a pretty good catch...lol

Sometimes it's better to just bite the bullet and meet the 'rents, sit down, have dinner, and show that you're a suitable mate for their daughter.

I dated a girl for like 9 months and met her mum once: when she drove me, my girlfriend and my mates to the train station. A 5 minute drive. I told her my name. That is all.

For her, a guy meeting her parents is a VERY big thing. For a long time she didn't want me to come in. Just pick her up from the front of her driveway.

Then she finally wanted me to meet her parents. And I refused to. Flat out. Didn't feel ready. She talked about me a lot, but in a vague way. They knew me as "the boy from Officer" (Officer being where I lived). They knew I had bipolar, that I overdosed on methadone and that sometimes, I made their daughter cry. They also knew that I helped her through the hardest times and through depression. They were too understanding to be real. About my overdose they said "well, it's just self medicating". Unbelievable.

Meet her parents. Make a good impression. A respectable girl will like you more if her parents approve of you.

But you actually need to be something to approve of. I wasn't, so I never met her parents.

I ended up talking to one mom on the phone and she asked me questions like "Do you do any drugs?". It was like a fucking interrogation. I told her that I tried weed once (although back then, I smoked weed all the time, and did other drugs as well). She told me to go to rehab and to stop associating with her daughter.
