Facts About AIDS You Don't Hear in Sex Ed
It seems that sex ed has scared the fuck out of everyone. AIDS is actually really hard to get.
If you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS
and look about 1/3 of the page down, you will see a chart of estimated number of infections per 10 000 exposures. This means that if you do each of these things 10 000 times with someone who has AIDS you will get infected approximately that many times. For example, blood transfusion is 9000. In other words, if you get a blood transfusion from someone with AIDS you have a 90% chance of becoming infected.
It gets interesting when you get down to needle sharing, 67 infections. Receptive anal intercourse, 50. Even more ineresting is receptive and insertive vaginal intercourse, only 10 and 5 respectively.
This means if you have sex with someone who has AIDS WITHOUT USING PROTECTION you still have only a %0.1 or %0.05 chance of getting infected.
So then why all the fist pounding about AIDS in sex ed class? Why the whole "You can get AIDS even having sex just one time without a condom" spiel? Well it is true, you can. Your chances are very fucking minimal though.
Here's my conclusion. AIDS is a really shitty disease that will kill you slowly and painfully. However, most fucktards if told they only have a 0.05% chance of getting something will throw caution to the wind and do it anyway. Perhaps fear is the only way to ellicit some kind of response from people. Either way i feel duped. That speaker who came in and had AIDS was probably a junkie and a homosexual.
Use a condom.

Mmm..I dunno if I QUITE believe that. I mean, for guys, its a lot harder to catch blood and fluid transmitted diseases such as AIDS, and I'd believe that number. But if a girl allows a boy with AIDS to ejaculate inside her, the chances of her getting it are much higher.

Re: Facts About AIDS You Don't Hear in Sex Ed
Hmmm, I don't feel like reading the article, but there are lots of factors.
For example, in Africa, they'll do something where they dry out the woman's vagina with herbs, so that it feels better, but it makes her a ton more liable to get AIDS.
Also, I think other STI's can make it easier to transfer. For example, if you have open sores on your vag, it'll be a ton easier.
And you might be right about the fear. I think lots of girls realize that once they're on the pill and can't get preggo, they can fuck anyone they want. These sluts spread disease.

Um yeah. Normally I love the hell out of Wikipedia, but when it comes to stuff like that, I think I'll refer you monkeys to the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/), or the Center For Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov/).
Here's a couple articles that I dug up. I know you monkeys have a short attention span, so these are ones that have simplified it a bit. For the rare one or two of you that actually give a damn about something other than being entertained, there's links to more data on these pages.
Avert (http://www.avert.org), a worldwide AIDS/HIV charity has all sorts of statistics posted, including a simple breakdown of diagnosed 2005 statistics (http://www.avert.org/usastatg.htm).
Keep in mind that these are just diagnosed, and there are many undiagnosed people out there.
It would seem those charts are pulled directly from the CDC, but the CDC keeps much more info (http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/surveillance/basic.htm) than that.
The World Health Organization is just chock full of technical stuff that most of you morons don't have the capacity to grasp. Feel free to give it a try though, maybe you'll learn a big word in there.
And one more comment. I once knew someone who died of AIDS. It is a painful ugly way to die, and I would sooner cut off my penis, both legs and left arm, then chew through my remaining arm, than go through that living hell.

The whole "africa situation" is based on the fact that everyone is taught that condoms are evil. Like, literally, they are told that condoms CAUSE AIDS. Who the fuck knows WHY they think that, but they just refuse to use them. Of course, I dont speak for all of Africa, but a lot of the smaller settlements feel that way.

3 packs a day, damn. I'm on a pack of a week of camel filters. I'll progress as I grow older, but I've got far too much activity (swimming) to do now so I have to make sure my lungs are at least somewhat clear. Sorry, I digress.

Re: Facts About AIDS You Don't Hear in Sex Ed
I wouldn't trust it and who cares if the chances are minimal still should be smart. Chances are minimal for pregnency even with cumming in a girl day after day but still should use a condom. I mean just because its unlikly doesn't mean it can't happen. Of course they overexagerate the bad things because like you said dumb fucktards would just stop using caution and it would be a lot worse. I mean same thing can be said for pregnency they make it out like if you cum anywhere near a girl without a condom on she will instantly be pregnent and your life ruined but hell my girlfriends sister has been TRYING to get preggers for a year or so and no luck. They have to exagerte the risk otherwise no one would listen. And then there would be more people getting stds or what not.

I've never heard about that. But I do agree with the mysticism they correlate with AIDS. My geography teacher in college worked for the UN as one of the guys that calculate statistics and initiate plans for getting the people in remote regions of Africa sanitized water. He recalled that a large portion of the South Eastern African men actually believed they could get rid of AIDS by ejaculating into a virgin girl and in turn pass it from themselves to her.
You can clearly see how some myth like this can spread AIDS though their communities like wildfire. That and in the 80's african men in the southern areas of Africa used to unionize in gangs by numbers. Then they would do this act called Gang Rolling where they would outnumber and over power small communities to rape their women and steal everything in sight.
This shit seems to primarily come from the lower half of Africa. I believe its because they are further away from Europe and the Euroasian trades, which inhibits them with catching up with the modern world. The upper half of Africa seems to be doing ALOT better.

That's pretty fucked up. But the whole condoms being bad does make sense if the people are religous. Even here there are certain churchs that are stongly against ANY form of birthcontrol since in the bible it tells not to waste sperm and that sex is for PROCREATION not recreation. So if you are having sex only for procreation theres no need for condoms and they are evil invetentions for sinners and harlots.
Oh and on the subject of things they don't teach in sex ed how about they start teaching things besides "IF you have premarital sex you will get aids and a baby" and teach more along the lines of what to do if you want to have sex or if you do get pregnet or think you might have an STD, or how to tell if you are pregnet like signs. I mean all they taught us was that premarital sex was bad and that if you have sex your dick WILL fall off.

Re: Facts About AIDS You Don't Hear in Sex Ed
FYI, incidence of AIDS in Africa is so high because either it's transmitted from mother to baby (50% transmission rate, plus more risk from breastfeeding), or through rape, which damages and tears the inside of the ass/vagina and makes transmission of the infection much more likely. Chances of transmission even from unprotected sex are fairly low, although I for one think that the "huge risk" myth is one that's worth keeping; better safe than sorry. Much better people take no risks at all.

It's funny how people start talking about the 'aids epidemic in africa'. fyi, not all africans are dirty black people living in complete ignorance of everything. Sure it's a scarily huge majority, but it's not like all africans are like that.l

I looked through the links you posted, but I can't find anything that contradicts what Wikipedia says. The charts you linked to don't give the number of people having sex with people with AIDS, only the number of people who get it, so the transmission rate could be 100% or .0000001% for all the information given.

I also read through the information Prometheus gave, and am hard pressed to find information contradictory to the Wiki article. I am starting to think he didn't actually read it.
The reasons for the Africa AIDS problem are several. No condom use, lots of rape which increases the chances of infection, plenty of drug use, beleifs such as raping a virgin will cure you of AIDS.

You know why I didn't link to stats directly confirming/discrediting the Wikipedia article? Because from all my searching through databases from nationally and internationally reputable health organizations, I couldn't find anything that listed transmission statistics the same way. Other than the links posted on the Wikipedia article itself, I couldn't find anything on specific risk assessments.
True, I only spent about 45 minutes rooting around, but you'd think that I would have turned up something. Anything. This makes me rather suspicious.

I hate deliberate misinformation. I also hate unwarranted paranoia. If I had sex with a girl with a condom and later found out she had AIDS, I would fucking flip and be scared shitless. Knowing what I know now, it wouldn't even phase me.
Also Prometheus you seem to have missed my entire point. The reason you could not find any statistics is because you were looking at AIDS.org or some other prevention website. My entire point is that these sources will NEVER give you the statistic because it undermines their position. They will say things like "You can get AIDS the first time you have sex", which is absolutely true, but i hope you see how that supports their platform, and how saying "Your chances of getting AIDS are %0.1" does not. Both statements are facts, but to get the second one you have to dig through peer reviewed journals because no one will ever tell you.

Nothing like scaring the animal out of civilization...
"Don't fuck her, she sells her body. That makes her a sinner, and a dirty dirty whore!"
"But I don't believe in sin; and I'm putting myself into a fairly low risk situation when it comes to contracting a disease - sure, it can happen, but if I'm willing to chance it, why can't I?"
"Because my beliefs are better than yours. So you can follow them or go to jail."
There's nothing wrong with unprotected sex or fucking the corner crack whore. Just because you are against the idea of bareback and street whores doesn't mean anyone else needs to follow your way of life, or be indoctrinated into it.

You do not recall correctly. 38% might have AIDS, but not HIV. AIDS is just an immune deficiency, though most people think its an STD. AIDS is often caused by deficiencies in nutrition and sanitation among other things. Meaning in third world countries, unprotected sex isn't as common a cause of AIDS as many other things are.

What I find HILARIOUS, is that one of the common ::treatments:: for HIV ::can CAUSE AIDS and USUALLY DOES:: at a quicker pace and higher frequency than HIV could ever accomplish. Hurrah for chemotherapy destroying the immune system in a matter of weeks.
If you have HIV, your best chance of survival is a strong diet to keep your immune system in well enough shape to fight off pnuemonia, bronchitis, flu, cold, larangitis, meningitis, farangitis, infections, ect.
