My ex and I were in a similar situation. He was Scottish, living in Canada, and he could only stay in the country for six months at a time. So the last time he came to Canada, we knew it was his last. It was weird knowing the date that we would have to break up, but we stayed together.

Have you talked with her about this? You have to figure something out that works for both of you, don't just spring it on her right before you go, you know?

Edit- Just realised that me and my current boyfriend were also in a similar situation. We got together in July, and at the time I did not want a boyfriend at all because I was going to university in the fall. But I gave him a chance, and we decided to stay together, even though we're 3 horus apart. I'm so in love with him now, I can hardly comprehend that I entertained the thought of breaking up with him just for university.

But if you're not willing to put in the effort...

All relationships are transitory anyway, it can't be helped.

But what you can change is the quality of time you've still got.

Stop sulking and enjoy yourselves.

If you can't even work out something as simple as living together and coordinating your life plans, you're fucked.

I would say, to both of you, you can start up uni any time you want.

edit: i totally read that wrong and thought you said you'd be half an hour away at most, not that's what you thought you could handle.

it all comes down to what your relationship can withstand. i'm in a long distance right now and it fucking bites, but you know what? i still get that feeling when i think about him. i still want to be with him.

if you want it, make it happen. otherwise...i don't know what to tell you. you'll have to figure it out.

Yep, this is pretty much my current opinion. I guess the point of a ton of Beatles' songs would be "Love is awesome, but losing it is terrible, but it's worth it so have fun."

I've talked to her, but she was mostly crying just thinking about it.

Yes, we could coordinate going to nearby places, but I'm going to go to a better school than she could get into. As for taking a year off myself, I'm totally against it. I love learning, and I can't take a break.

But I really want to stay friends with her through school. Hope it won't be awkward. It worked for Jerry and Elaine...
