I mean, think about the three funniest people you know in real life. I'll bet that at least two thirds of them are males.

Why is it?

2 of the funniest people I know are chicks, but they have the same kinda fucked up sense of humour as me.

But as far as comedians go, I'd say that men are funnier, female comedians just seem to talk about the same shit.

For the same reason men have higher IQ tests...men are just smarter. Might not be the nicest thing for you females to hear, but why fuck around when it's the truth?

On average men have only a slight iq advantage over women, less so than than east asians and ashkenazi jews have over white people.

If your going to be sexist about humor, you might as well be racist if your using iq as an indicator.

There was an article about this in Psychology Today. I forget the exacts of it, but it said that the definition for a 'sense of humour' between the sexes is different. While women who have a sense of humour laugh at men's jokes (as seen by men; men who have a sense of humour have the ability to make women laugh, as seen by women. I also remember it saying that women who have a good sense of humour are often viewed as less attractive by men because the man might feel somewhat immasculated if she's funnier than he is.

I think my mom has more antics up her sleeve than my dad. Also, at times when mom laughs, it's hard to stop her. Between my wife and me, I think I am the joker.... so it's 50-50. Just depends on the circumstances and who you are dealing with.

What? That's the biggest thing I look for in a girl. If she can make me laugh at things I wouldn't normally laugh at, she's got my heart.

Yeah, it is an interesting thing to consider... it's pretty much undeniable, just look at the balance of male / female comedians... and then consider the female comedians. Wanda Sykes? FUCK NO. Ellen DeGeneres? UGH.

I really hate it when a girl tells a really bad joke... like this girl I'm sort of... doing 'something' with... tells a horribly un-amusing joke about a blonde female cop... what the hell am I supposed to do if its not funny? heh.

Men are always funnier and more intelligent than women, because generally men have different and more unique personalities on average. Women are pretty much made from a cookie cutter in terms of personality.

I can't tell you how many intelligent conversations with my friends have been ruined by girls who think it's "boring", they make it very awkward by staying silent and trying to change the subject every 5 minutes. They just can't keep up with profound discussions or intelligent humor.

Very true...

I remember me and some of my frat. buddies were out and some girl was joking about us having a "who has a bigger dick contest"...most of us quickly conceded that we'd lose that contest....though probably not true....

I make similar jokes at my own expense around chicks, but always say it with a shit eating grin.....they usually seem to like it...as long as they dont take you seriously...

I know way too many girls that think they're hilarious. It's a shame that there are very few funny women around.

I'm not saying that they don't exist. I know a few girls that can have me laughing my ass off, but sadly, most girls make terrible jokes.

As an aside, re: "the rule" -

It's true that being able to deliver something that you KNOW is going to make people laugh completely deadpan often makes the line funnier, but on the other hand, laughing often very effectively inspires other people to laugh, so it cuts both ways.

You can sit here and argue it all day long, and never get anywhere.

When you're ready for your awnser, turn on comedy central one friday night.

Oh, and whoever said that the girl on there the other night changed their mind about female comedians, I hope you arent talking about the same one I caught.

I dont remember her name, but I cant be sure. But mostly, she just got up there and started ragging on the audience. And she didnt put very much effort into that either. 'Mexicans dont work, lol' and she uses words like 'cunt' that actually are the joke. She thinks she's funny just because she can use vulgar words, and doesnt feel the need to back them with wit or any additional humor.

Yea men are better comedians but all of you are wrong as to WHY though. Its because you see women are significantly inferior to men in almost every way except for the looks catagory. Women are dumber, less strong, less funny, and all around no where near as good as men at things except being sexy and sucking us off. :-P Bet that will piss a lot of people off haha and yes I am kidding.

And there are a couple funny female comedians but for the most part they aren't that funny.

And to the dumb ass that said rule of not laughing at your own jokes thats bull shit. I ALWAYS laugh at my own jokes but then again I tell jokes not only to entertain other people but to entertain myself, I mean if I don't think its funny and able to laugh at it then why the fuck tell it? If I can't laugh at it why bother?

I heard this comedian on the radio a few weeks ago, I can't remember her name, but she was absolutely hilarious. Never heard of a funny female comedian besides her.

I know a lot of girls who are really funny, but as soon as guys are around they act completely different. But generally, yeah, guys are funnier.

There are some women who have a genuine understanding of how humour works and use it to their advantage. I know one (and only one). She is still nowhere near as funny as most of my male friends. Fact of the matter is, although a lot of girls might be intelligent and make interesting conversation, very few actually have the capacity to make me laugh (except of course when I'm laughing at them, which doesn't count).

Girls, don't worry. We got humour, you got boobs. I think it's a fair trade-off.

Theres this bitch on comedy central thats been on for the past half an hour...I havent laughed once.

I think part of their problem is their delivery. They know their shit isnt funny, and it comes out in the way they tell the jokes. Look at Dane Cook for example. If anyone else tried to tell those jokes, they'd just come across as stupid. But the way he tells them and the energy he puts into it makes it so you cant help but laugh.

Victoria Wood has the odd moment, but I'm not that fussed.

Sitcoms have the odd funny female character.

IRL, men have to be funny, women don't know how to be funny.

Partly because men have to dominate in groups. If a woman gets too much attention it makes it harder for men to get the alpha position...which, of course, they sorely need.

Women get various messages if they get too forward & dominant. If they get too much of a group's attention, I mean, how dare she!? Thus, they interact differently in an all female group.

Default Re: Are men funnier than women?

i have never laughed at a woman comedian. i am the only person i know who hates dane cook... except the kool-aid thing; but he only kinda got that off right... but i think women arent as funny cuz all their jokes go back to three things: a man's inability to satisfy her in the bed(also includes things that he wants her to do that she refuses), how she looks like shit (notice that it's not a lack of self-depricating humor, it's because there's a lack of quality), and how ... wait nvm, just two after all.

but i think maybe why men in general are funnier than women is simply because of how women usually worry more about their social status, to the point where they want to make everyone (except me, *cries*) happy. sry 4 teh lack of periods.

In my experience, yes.

Can't really explain it, but I guess men just *know* how to act funny in general... whereas when women act funny, it's more of an inside joke for "women only" and doesn't appeal to both men and women.

However, the funniest women I've met tend to be much older, wiser, and more mature. They don't say 5 words and then giggle for five minutes like little school girls, they actually follow through with their joke, wait for your response, and then laugh along with you and then play along with you. It's really fun and attractive, but such a rarity.

There is a biological basis for humour.

One of the reasons we may have evolved it is as a way to avoid violence. Since men tend to be more violent than women, it seems logical that men would be more prone to humour.

Think about it. Humour defuses violent or tense situations, it's good for putting people at ease.

Almost all writers for sitcoms are men. Also, Bart(or any character other than Homer) is rarely funny for what they do or say, but rather are funny for what happens to them.

Also, it all boils down to sex. Men often need to impress women through humor. This leads to men being better comedians and funnier in general.

Ya, I notice this a lot because I'm one of those girls thats jokes a lot, more then most guys I know. And I do notice that, espeically with males that don't know me, they can either get really confrintational, or they treat me differently to ever other female there (weather that is a good thing or not, I often get refered to as 'one of the guys').
